Directions to Co-Parent Court: Co-Parent Court is on Thursdays at 1:30 at the Hennepin County Government Center. Judge Bruce Peterson is the Co-Parent Court Judge and his courtroom is on the 19th floor of the Court side of the Government Center (look for the “C” Tower). Please follow the directions on your paperwork for the specific date and time of your Co-Parent Court hearing. Judge Peterson’s staff can be reached at (612) 596-7126 if you have questions. What is Co-Parent Court?Co-Parent Court is a new problem-solving court in Hennepin Countythat works with unmarried parents who are establishing paternity(legal fatherhood) for their child.

Co-Parent Court is a non-traditional court that addresses barriers toeffective parenting.

Co-Parent Court includes:Paternity establishment andchild support. Legal fatherhood and parents’ fi nancial contributions to their child will be set.

Co-Parent Education classes. All parents are required to attend six classes at NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center.

What does Co-Parent Court offer my family?

Make the Co-Parent Court commitment for your child.

Q. Am I required toparticipate in Co-Parent Court? A. Yes, you are required to go to theCo-Parent Education classes. You canchoose to take advantage of the otherhelp offered. Co-Parent Court Servicesare designed to help you help your child.

Q. What do I do if I amin an abusive relationship?A. We have partnerships with localdomestic abuse service providers toget you the help your family needs.We will help you develop a safety planand work with you to keep you and your child safe. We will help you stop violence.

Q. Is this a parenting class?A. No, this is a Co-Parenting class.The focus is on the relationship between the mother and the father as it relates to the safety, health and development of the child or children involved.

Q. How long do I have toparticipate, how many classesdo I have to attend and howmuch does this cost?A. Each class is two hours long forsix consecutive weeks. Mothers and fathers will attend separate classes.All are expected to attend all six classes. There is no cost for participating inCo-Parent Court.

Q. What will this doto child support? A. Co-Parent Court will set child support the same way as other court orders. Co-Parent Court will help parents be able to pay their fi nancial commitment to their child and understand its importance.

Q. How will this helpme raise my child? A. Co-Parent Court will help each parent understand the important roles that both mothers and fathers play in the life of a child and help you focus on what is best for your child.

The chance to take charge of your family’s future. Put your voice to action and have a say when it comes to parenting time, custody issues and child support.

Co-Parent Court will help you work with the other parent in a way that puts the focus on your child.

You can create a parenting plan that is individualized for your family with more support and less confl ict than the traditional court process.

The tools for successful co-parenting.Children do best when their parents work together. Your child deservesthe best.

Co-Parent Court will help each parent understand the important roles both mothers and fathers play in the lifeof a child.

Co-Parent Court will help youcreate the right parenting plan foryour family.

Individualized support from the Gateway program for moms and the FATHER Project for dads.

A customized parenting plancreated just for your family.

Co-Parent Court can also help with domestic violence, education, housing, health issues and jobs.
