SHROPSHIRE COUNTY SHOWTHE BIGGEST EVENT ON THE CALENDAR!The show held in May each year is the Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural Society’s main event - with a history dating back more than 145 years! It was primarily an agricultural event but has evolved to include so much more over the years, although farming still remains an essential part of the day. The show has certainly moved with the times and is as relevant to the community today as it has ever been, providing a packed programme of entertainment to cater for all ages. The ultimate family experience!

The show never disappoints, a fact borne out by the thousands of visitors who flock through the gates each year. The showground is easily accessible and there’s plenty of parking available. There are special ticket deals for families which keep the overall expense of the day at a manageable and cost-effective level and efforts are also made to ensure most of the attractions within the showground are FREE once the price of admission has been paid.

Some of the finest agricultural exhibits for miles around can be seen on show day, with a great deal of interest always shown in the latest farm machinery and vintage gems from the past. The main-ring entertainment serves up dare-devil thrills and spills while the showing of ever-popular livestock classes remain among the biggest attractions. There are horse, dog and poultry shows for visitors to look around and an animal zone where children can get up close to furry and feathered friends.

A kids’ zone provides plenty of free activities for the little ones to get involved in, there’s live music to complement the day’s entertainment, food and craft marquees and plenty of food and drink vendors around the showground. Shropshire County Show remains one of the biggest events on the county’s calendar and beyond with thousands of people saving the date in their diary each year - a time when all roads lead to Shrewsbury for a great family day out!



BONFIRE & FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR

SHREWSBURY LIVE

A NIGHT WHICH ALWAYS GOES WITH A BANG . . . TWICE!

The area’s biggest bonfire which also provides two fireworks displays on the same evening. The earlier one is more suitable for families and is relatively noise-friendly - designed not to frighten younger children. The later display comes with more bang, a much louder affair, more suited to older children and adults. However, visitors wishing to stay for the two displays are welcome to do so at no extra charge.

The night also includes funfair rides for all ages, there’s plenty of food and drink on offer, and a live music stage. The popular bonfire and fireworks spectacular has raised thousands of pounds for Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural Society’s The Rural Charity over the past few years.

AN EXTRA DATE WITH FULL-ON ENTERTAINMENT

Shrewsbury Live was launched in 2019 as a family event aimed at providing something to look forward to during the summer holidays and proved to be a great success - so much so, it was decided to make it a regular feature.

Family tickets are an attractive proposition to visitors and there’s the opportunity to beat the queues on the day courtesy of an early-bird offer.

Shrewsbury Live has a packed programme of main-ring entertainment with plenty of other activities going on around the showground to suit all tastes.

Shrewsbury Live is loved by parents and kids alike, with funfair entertainment and plenty of food and drink stalls on offer.



FRESTIVALAN INSIGHT INTO THE WORLD OF FREE-FROM PRODUCTS

Frestival’s aim is to give people the opportunity to lead a free-from lifestyle, or make some changes, in any way they wish, whether that’s in the kitchen or in their wardrobe. It also provides visitors with information on allergies, such as gluten intolerance, and how to cope with them. There are even allergy tests on site!

The free-from festival has plenty going on, from guest speakers to cookery demos to a whole lot of amazing food to try. Frestival was held at the showground for the first time in 2019, attracting visitors and experts from all over the country.

Frestival is an introduction for people to all sorts of free-from foods such as wheat, gluten, dairy, meat, nuts, animal products, palm oil, sugar and even plastic. It’s a wonderful opportunity for traders at the event to showcase a huge range of products, there’s a cookery theatre, where chefs from across the area demonstrate their best free-from recipes and the lecture theatre offers tips and advice on all sorts of free-from food and allergies.



CARAVANNING, CAMPING & WEST MID GLAMPING

AN IDYLLIC BASE FOR TOURISTSThe showground is open all year round as a camping and glamping destination, regularly hosting campers and caravanners from all over the country who use the showground as the perfect base for exploring Shrewsbury and Shropshire.

Set in almost 60 acres of beautiful parkland on the banks of the River Severn, the showground is within walking distance of the town centre and has plenty of space to accommodate motorhomes, touring caravans and tent pitches - all with electric hook-ups.

Well-behaved dogs are always welcome while facilities include toilets and showers, disabled toilet and shower,

Elsan disposal points, drinking water and function rooms available for booking.

The showground now has the added attraction of glamping accommodation, created within a former stable block - known as Darwin View - which provides fabulous views of Charles Darwin’s childhood home on The Mount.



ANTIQUES & FLEA MARKET

CAR BOOT SALES


AN ANTIQUE LOVER’S PARADISE

Just a short walk from Shrewsbury town centre, the

showground provides the perfect site for antiques

fairs and flea markets.On four regular weekend dates

throughout the year it is transformed into an antique

lover’s paradise with 1000s of items to feast your eyes

on.

Visitors can expect to find a mixture of antiques and

collectables, antique furniture, vintage clothing and

fabrics, architectural salvage, reclamation and just that

quirky stylish item that will complement a home. The

fairs attract up to 150 traders and up to 5,000 visitors

attend each weekend it is held.

The showground is the perfect site to host car boot sales and regularly attracts hundreds of buyers to each of its Sunday morning events.

Held between March and November each year there are options for sellers to set up outside or undercover on site.

Cars, vans, vehicles and trailers and large vans are all welcome, and corner plots are available to book in advance if sellers wish. The sales also welcome dogs and sellers and buyers can arrive from 7am with refreshments available throughout the morning.

Rural communities are facing significant

challenges, and that poverty remains an

important dimension of rural life, albeit one

that is often hidden and poorly addressed.

Our society has been linked with the local

rural economy for more than a century

and the original objectives of education,

encouragement and support for the people

who make up that economy have never

been more relevant.

The showground is operated by the

Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural

Society.

Any profits made through our activities go

to our charitable organisation, The Rural

Charity, which makes donations to groups

and individuals making a difference in our

rural communities.

The main cost facing the society is the

maintenance and running of the showground

itself.

Our sponsors help us meet those costs -

meaning The Rural Charity can continue to

help more people here in Shropshire.
