Life teaches us to make good use of time and time teaches us the value of life. Mak- ing bad decisions is a part of life. Blaming others for your bad decisions is imma- ture. Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you and pray for those who mis- treat you. Until next week, remem- ber to show love and fellow- ship with one another. Love is not love until you show it, so let’s show love, pray and fellowship with one another. Joe Daughtery asked Har- ris if residents in the county know about the process of applying for grant money. “We’ve been doing this since 1992, and get at least two calls a week from indi- viduals in the public, but also from supervisors and county employees,” County Manager Lee Smith said. Harris said the money would still have to be award- ed to low to moderate in- come people, who own their own home and land, have special needs, such as the elderly, handicapped and be- ing in a single-parent home situation, and “obviously the housing must be severely deteriorated.” District 2 Commissioner Ed Cromartie questioned the moving of funds. “I’m worried about the hard-working people, and money seems to be shrink- ing away,” he said. “It looks like the opposite of what it’s supposed to do.” The board approved Har- ris’ low-bid recommendation to have Rick Bostic Con- struction do the demolition at the project sites for a cost of about $13,500. Costs of the new homes are $75,000, $87,000, $83,000 and $44,000. A board mem- ber asked Daughtery, who has worked in housing for years, if those prices were in line with normal market rates. “Yes, they are,” he replied. “A $20,000 singlewide is a thing of the past.” GRANT from page 2
