Christmas and New Year This year Christmas and New Year fall on Monday. Christmas is always a holy day of obligation even when it is on Monday. The So-lemnity of Mary, the Mother of God, January 1st, is not a holy day of obligation when it falls on Monday. For Christmas this year it is a

holy day of obligation. There are 2 days of obligation back to back: the fourth Sunday of Advent And Christmas. The regular masses on Saturday evening and Sunday morning fulfill the obligation of the fourth Sunday of Advent. The masses on Sunday evening, December 24 and Monday, December 25, fulfill the obligation of Christmas. Masses on Saturday, December 30 and Sunday, December 31 fulfill the obligation of the Solemnity of the Holy Family. This clarification helps us to understand the practice of our Catholic faith. It is not an encouragement of minimalism, doing the least possible. Everyone is invited to attend mass with love.
