Ambrose reports that police have arrested 69 individuals, recovered 3 handguns, confiscated 562 decks of heroin, 376 vials of cocaine and 269 plastic bags of marijuana during an ongoing citywide narcotics sweep conducted between Monday, August 7 th and Sunday, August 13 th , 2017. The operation, in response to citizen complaints, is aimed at removing guns and drugs from our streets. This week, police confiscated $4,936.34 in proceeds from drug sales. The narcotics confiscated have a street value of $10,116.00. On Tuesday, August 8 th , a 16-year old male from Newark was arrested in the area of Mercer and Lincoln streets when police observed him toss a bag containing a handgun while fleeing the scene of a narcotics transaction. Police seized the loaded .45 caliber handgun, which had been reported stolen out of Pennsylvania. The youth is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Obstruction of the Administration of the Law. He was arrested along with another 17-year old male from Newark. This second youth was found in possession to 69 glassine envelopes of CDS heroin and $772.00 in suspected proceeds from drug sales. Khalif Halloway, 37, of Newark, was arrested Saturday, August 12 th following the execution of a search warrant at Fairmount Deli, located at 66 16 th Avenue. Newark Police Arrest 69 Individuals, Recover 3 Guns, Seize $10K in Street Value Drugs and $4.9K in Ongoing Narcotics Operation Last Week

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that police have arrested 69 individuals, recovered 3 handguns, confiscated 562 decks of heroin, 376 vials of cocaine and 269 plastic bags of marijuana during an ongoing citywide narcotics sweep conducted between Monday, August 7 th and Sunday, August 13th, 2017.

Holloway is charged Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (a 9MM loaded handgun), Possession Weapon While Engaged in a Narcotics Offense, Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon Possession and Unlawful Possession of Prohibited Weapons (High Capacity Magazine).

Others arrested during the search warrant execution at this location are: Christopher Lucas, 26, of Orange, and Joseph Boynes, 24, and Kevin Garnes, 53, both of Newark. Lucas is charged with CDS Possession, CDS Distribution and CDS Distribution within 1,000-ft. of a School. Boynes, Garnes and Holloway all face the same charges along with Conspiracy and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Ingmar J. Connell, 28, of Newark, was arrested on Sunday, August 13 th after police observed him conducting a narcotics transaction in the 100-block of Garside Street. Connell was also in possession of a loaded .380 caliber handgun, 13 vials of cocaine, and one glassine envelope of heroin. He is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (hollow point ammunition), Resisting Arrest, Conspiracy and two counts each of CDS Possession (heroin and cocaine), CDS Distribution, and CDS Distribution Within 1,000-feet of a School.

Police also arrested other individuals for CDS Possession, CDS Distribution, Contempt of Court on outstanding warrants or Wandering to Purchase CDS as part of this operation.

These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
