A great atmosphere in the ring and a full house in the house. Our thanks go to the
judge David Knowles from Kendal for a decisive and efficient job. Also thank you to
Dugdale Nutrition for sponsorship along with NMR and many others who supported
us today. One or two faces were missing today- so come on John Dodgson get
yourself fit for next week!
What about the trade? We didn’t break any records at the top end with the £2000
-
bid barrier broken six times with a top of £2280 but second quality cattle with plenty
of milk were very clear in comparison.
Messrs Blockley bought Lee Donkin’s champion at £2220.00 plus Bargh Bros at
£2100. Lee Donkin’s third prize heifer went to Clem Talbot at £2120.00. Geoff Booth
was in the running with a 2nd lactation cow at £1800.00 to KR & C Hill Wrexham, they
also took his 2nd prize pedigree heifer at £2000.00. GW Whitwell brought a strong
team of heifers at £1840 and £1810 and a 3rd lactation cow at £1800.00. Despite
milk prices being under pressure there was some keen bidding today especially for
milky older cows.
In calf heifers were a dream to sell with Dave Richardson selling at £1480 and 1420
to Will Shuttleworth and David and Jim Nowell at £1200 to Dave Mattinson.
NEXT WEEK is our regular weekly sale with 20-30 on offer. DON’T
FORGET the Cogent Pedigree Show on 20th December. All entries
welcome, please give us a try. Entries for the pedigree show catalogue to

A decent entry of 161 calves. A tale of two halves today - good calves were very
good trade but second quality were less money, especially the heifers!
Alan Bowker topped with a quartet of Blue bulls at £480 each; AJ & AJ Gibbons
£428, £425, £422, £418 and £408 and J & P A Baldwin & Sons also above £400.
Plenty of nice Blue heifers £300 - £370, but an ordinary sort could be bought around
£200.
Limousin bulls topped at £352 and heifers at £310. A beautiful Charolais heifer from
John Lees sold for £395.

Despite large numbers of cows on offer this week we had a good weekly entry of 33
and a keen crown round the ring. An impressive heifer from Richard Bainbridge
made a well deserved £2,180. Next in line was Andrew Wensley at £1,930. There
was nothing less than £1,000 in today’s sale with some third and fourth lactation
dispersal cows making up to £1,500.
NEXT WEEK is COGENT CHRISTMAS SHOW with a good entry from regular
vendors and please remember everybody is welcome!

Calf Auctioneer Rachel Capstick. Clerk: Anna Robinson
What a trade for the last calf sale of 2018! All breeds fantastic to sell. Blue bulls to
£500 for a batch of 7 from Alan Bowker. Plenty of others either side of £400. The
Blue heifers were the trade of the day plenty about £300. £375 x 3, £360, £355,
£350, £328.
Simmental, Limousins, the Angus and Herefords sold very well too, even the Black
and Whites got away for better than anticipated.
A handful of stirks followed and again sold well for the goods on offer today.
Next calf and stirk sale is Thursday 3rd January. Wishing all our customers a
Happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you all for a busy January 2019.
