Wednesday, Sept 16th

~ Depart SFO for Florence Depart San Francisco, overnight flight to Florence. Complimentary meals aloft.

Thurs, 9/17- Arrive, Amerigo Vespucci Airport, Florence. English speaking guide will accompany us to our four-star hotel.

Welcome dinner at hotel.

Friday, Sept 18th

~ Florence ~ Michelangelo’s David ~ Uffizi Gallery (B)

Enjoy complimentary breakfast buffet every morning

AM: *Public Mass at the Duomo. Tour the Duomo (Santa Maria del Fiore). Proceed to the Accademia Gallery. Immerse yourself in

Michelangelo’s genius and enjoy his most famous work, the statue of David.

PM: Own lunch at the Accademia. Visit Uffizi Gallery to appreciate and understand why Florence is the birthplace of the

Renaissance. Own dinner and evening FREE.

Saturday, Sept 19th

~ Florence ~ Camaldoli (B,L,D) AM: Early breakfast. Private Mass*. Visit Piazza Santa Croce, one of the liveliest in Florence, including the Franciscan Church of

Santa Croce. Our tour in Florence concludes with a visit to the Christian Leather School.

PM: Group lunch. Depart for Camaldoli. Welcome dinner at the Guest House.

Sunday, Sep 20th

~ Camaldoli (B,L,D) Full day of contemplative prayer, Mass and conferences with Fr. Thomas on the life of St. Romuald. Group lunch and dinner.

Monday, Sept 21st ~ Camaldoli ~ Arezzo (B,L,D)

After breakfast,depart for Arezzo area. Visit Etruscan Parish Church (perhaps Mass).

PM: Group lunch. Visit an Etruscan Museum. Free time in Arezzo. Return to Camaldoli for Vespers and dinner.

Tuesday, Sept 22nd

~ Camaldoli ~ Ravenna (Romuald’s birth place) (B,L,D)

After breakfast, depart Camaldoli for Ravenna. Lunch en route. Mass either in Camaldoli before we leave or in Ravenna, TBD.

PM: Walking tour of Ravenna, including the mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the church of St. Vitale, St. Apollinare Nuovo, and

the Orthodox Baptistery. All these buildings feature spectacular mosaics dating back to the Early Christian and Byzantine

periods.

Welcome dinner at the hotel.

Wednesday, Sept 23rd

~ Ravenna ~ Classe ~ Fabriano ~ Fonte Avellana (B,L,D)

AM: Visit to Sant’Apollinare beside the ancient port of Classe, an important monument of Byzantine art near Ravenna.

UNESCO cited this basilica as an outstanding example of the early Christian basilica.

PM: Group lunch. Depart for Fabriano, the site of St. Romuald’s death. Celebrate Mass at his tomb. Some free time.

Proceed to Fonte Avellana. Group dinner at the Monastery.

Thursday, Sept 24th

~ Fonte Avellana (B,L,D) Full day of contemplative prayer, Mass and conferences with Fr. Thomas on the life of St. Romuald. This is the only

Camaldolese Abbey (right-most picture on page 1 of this brochure) where we will ponder a fragment of True Cross of Jesus.

Group lunch and dinner.

Friday, Sept 25th

~ Fonte Avellana & Environs (B,D)

After breakfast, depart for neighborhood Camaldolese churches and towns. Celebrate Mass*, find a spot for lunch, enjoy the area.

Saturday, Sept 26th

~ Fonte Avellana ~ Assisi (B,L,D)

AM: Leisurely morning at the Monastery. Mass either at the Monastery or in Assisi, TBD.

PM: Group lunch. Depart for Assisi. Group dinner at the hotel.

Sunday, Sept 27th

~ Assisi (B) AM: Private Mass* at the Tomb of St. Francis. Tour of the Basilica of St. Francis and the Franciscan complex accompanied by an

English-speaking friar. Proceed in Assisi to walking pilgrimage tour of the city, Chiesa Nuova, Piazza del Commune, Temple of

Minerva, Basilica of St. Clare. Visit the Crucifix of San Damiano and the incorrupt body of St. Clare.

PM: Own lunch. Afternoon FREE to explore the joys of Assisi. Dinner on own.

Monday, Sept 28th

~ Porziuncola ~ Rome (B,D) AM: Santa Maria degli Angeli for Private Mass*. Tour of Basilica and the Porziuncola, the little chapel where St. Francis

gathered his followers.

PM: Proceed to Rome, own lunch at Autogrill on the way. Welcome dinner at hotel.

Tuesday, Sept 29th

~ Rome ~ St. Peter’s Basilica ~ Scavi Tour ~ Sistine Chapel (B,L) AM: Early breakfast. Depart for Private Mass* in the Crypt of St Peter’s Basilica. After Mass, enjoy the famous Scavi Tour, the

necropolis underneath the Basilica, where the tomb of St. Peter is located.

PM: Group lunch. Stroll to the treasures of the Vatican Museum, highlighted by the Sistine Chapel. At the end of the visit, we are

free to explore on our own, perhaps to do some shopping for religious articles to be blessed tomorrow by Pope Francis. Some may

be tempted to ascend to the top of the dome of St. Peter’s! ☺ Own dinner.

Wednesday, Sept 30th

~ Rome ~ Papal Audience ~ Trevi Fountain (B,L,D) AM: Early breakfast. Proceed to experience the highlight of our Roman stay, the PAPAL AUDIENCE in St. Peter’s Square.

PM: Group lunch at a local, family-owned restaurant. This afternoon enjoy a tour of Rome, visiting Piazza Navona, Trevi

Fountain and Spanish Steps. Return to hotel for Group dinner.

Thursday, Oct 1st ~ Ancient Rome ~ San Gregorio ~ Santa Maria Maggiore ~ Farewell Dinner (B,L,D)

AM: Early breakfast. Private Mass* at San Gregorio. After Mass, visit of Ancient Rome, with an inside tour of the Colosseum, the

Arch of Constantine, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and Circus Maximus.

PM: Group lunch. Proceed to the most illustrious church dedicated to Our Lady, the Basilica of St. Mary Major. Guided tour of the

interior of the Basilica. In the Confessio beneath the high altar, we can venerate the Relics of the Crib that held the Infant Jesus in

Bethlehem. Return to hotel and prepare to go out and celebrate our Farewell Dinner together with wine and music.

Friday, Oct 2nd ~ Return to San Francisco (or other departure city)
