Lunch Bunch (formerly XYZ Group) will meet in Fellowship Hall at noon Thursday, Septem-ber 7. After a potluck meal, Vicky Collins of the Ludington

Senior Center will share with us programs and activi-ties currently available for seniors at the Center. Please bring a dish to pass and a friend or two and join us for a good time together. Upper Room Devotionals for September/October are available on the Literature Table in the hallway between the narthex and Fellowship Hall. Wednesday Night Meals at 6:00 pm will begin again in Fellowship Hall on September 6 and will continue through December 13, except for Novem-ber 22, the day before Thanksgiving. Marcia Sadler will continue to prepare and serve these meals at a cost of $7.00 each. Following the meal, singing and devotions, Pastor Dennis will lead a Bible study class. If Ludington Area Schools are closed on Wednesday because of bad weather, the Meal that night will be cancelled. Our church led worship services August 20 at Tendercare, Ludington Woods and Oakview. Al Carlson led the singing, Kirk Myers gave the mes-sage and Becky Sopha accompanied us on the piano. Twenty-eight patients attended at the three nursing homes.

Sunday Morning Coffee, Juice and Cookies are served in the narthex area from 9:00 to 11:00 am.

~ ~ ~ If you ordered photos from Lifetouch this spring, they should have been mailed to your house. If you only wanted the complimentary 8x10, you can pick up yours at the Welcome Center.

Mark your calendars!!

Rev. Paul Webster, who is director of the Mujila Falls Agriculture Center in Kanyama, Zambia, will be visiting our church on Friday, Sept. 1. Rev. Webster will be coming to update us on what is happening at the Mujila Falls Center. The center was started in 2000 in a remote area of Zambia. The center is 40 km from the nearest road and, as of 2 years ago, still had no electricity. The story and growth of the Mujila Falls Agriculture Center is truly remarkable. The agriculture center is an outstanding example of Christian faith in action. We are planning to have a potluck meal starting at 6:00 pm in Fellowship Hall, followed by a presen-tation by Rev. Our annual Church Conference will be at 6:30 pm Sunday, October 29, at Manistee United Methodist Church. This is the event at which we report our 2017 mission work, vote on 2018 church leaders, hear membership data, and present our vision for our church. There will also be a chili cook-off beginning at 5:00 pm. Only church members may vote at Church Conference, but everyone has voice and can eat chili! ~ ~ ~

Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World

Our Women’s Fall Bible Study will begin on Thursday, September 7 at 10:00 am in Fellowship Hall. This ten-week Bible study by best-selling author Joanna Weaver will include reading a study book, viewing her DVD, and dis-cussing study questions. “Joanna Weaver shows how all of us -

Marys and Marthas alike - can draw closer to our Lord: deepening our devotion, strengthening our ser-vice, and doing both with less stress and greater joy.” Please sign up in the church office by September 6. For more information, you may contact Lynne Gohn at 843-4746. The book is $9.00 and will be available at the first class.

Many seniors experience fear of falling and restrict their activities. The Scottville Senior Center will offer an eight-session balance class at our church from 9:00 to 11:00 am, beginning September 6. A Matter of Bal-ance: Managing Concerns About Falls emphasizes practical strategies to reduce this fear and increase activity lev-els. Participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and exercise to increase strength and balance. This program was developed at the Roybal Center at Bos-ton University, and has been nationally recognized by the Healthcare and Aging Network of the American Society on Aging. The class sessions are led by a trained facilitator. Class will meet September 6, 11, 18, 20, 25, 27, and October 2 and 4. Participants may do-nate $10 per person to offset the cost of the booklet each one will receive, but the donation is not required. Sign up in the church office!

The Legacy youth group is seeking donations of services or items for its Silent Auction. Funds

raised from the Silent Auction/Spaghetti Dinner (date to be announced) will be used to support youth group activities such as the annual Youth Conference; Chris-tian concerts; local mission work; and much, much more. Please bring items to the church office. August 20 was Youth Sunday. Our youth led both worship services and we honored our high school graduates: Evan Cooper, Morgan Mitchell, Mallory Shinn, and Emma Taranko.

Legacy will not meet September 3, but will meet from 4:30 to 6:30 pm Sunday, September 10 for our Second Annual Youth Olympics!

Guess who missed the September Foot-

prints deadline!

But that’s OK, because our Director of Christian Education,

Judy Downing, wrote a couple of articles I wanted to include

in this issue of Footprints. They are printed below.

The children’s Sunday School program will start on

September 17, with 9:30 “Worship in the Woods” at

the Pavilion. The children are covering Judges and

Kings throughout the month of September; with a

focus on Hannah, Samuel, Saul and David. On Sep-

tember 24, they will have the Puppets of Faith.

For the elementary and senior high youth, I am de-

termined that we have Sunday School--even if it is

not on Sunday! Michaele Ray and Tanya Gasaway

have offered to work with the elementary class, but

when will it work out for them to meet? We have

not been able to solve that at this time. We are look-

ing forward to the youths’ involvement in the 9:30

Service, so that is not a feasible time. We have

looked at Wednesday night, since we already use the

church for our 6:00 dinner and Pastor Dennis’ Bible

study following at approximately 7:10 pm. I will

gladly take both the senior high youth and the ele-

mentary youth at that time. But now we need to

know if we have youth leadership and youth them-

selves. Youth need to let me know when they are

available, and adults willing to work with them need

to let me know when they are available so that we

can match them up. If not, I am going to start

something anyhow because we have a lot of youth

in this community crying out for someone to care--

and I care. I think you do too. I am grateful for

Michaele’s and Tanya’s willingness to come forward.

Parents of youth--can you help us figure out what to

do and when?

Please do not take this concern lightly. One of our

major problems today in the country is the fact that

many adults and youth do not go to any studies

when their brains have matured beyond the simple

Bible stories of children, and they claim “truths”

that do not exist due to their own lack of education

on the knowledge of what Scripture “really” says.

Vacation Bible School, “Hero Cen-

tral,” has come to an end for this year.

I haven’t talked to those of you who

have helped yet, and I am looking forward to your

input. I know it was a GREAT TIME for and with

those little ones and the helpers that were around

me.

Britney Cole and Joan Kaatz did an AMAZ-

ING job, and I hear nothing but the greatest of

compliments about them. They have both said

they loved doing it and are willing to do it again

next year. So give them a big hug! They deserve

at least that!

The three of us also thank the rest of you that

helped as well. As you could tell, we needed

every one of you and hope you will be available

to help us again with next year’s VBS.

Our total of children this year was 52. Our total

last year shows two different figures: the low

was 48 and the high was 59. The total helpers were

Flower Ministry Update and Thanks

Church friends have stepped forward this summer to help with the Monday Flower Ministry. This allows for flexibility and covers “time out/time away” for our small group. Lee Vaught stops in at 10:00 to pick up the arranged vases for Ludington Woods; a meaningful way to ex-press his appreciation for the care Bonnie received when there. Karen Nelson, a summer resident from Southern Colorado, has added her expertise and friendly man-ner to the group. We will miss her, come September. Thank you to Sheila McCallum for enthusiastically joining the ministry with her busy schedule. Thank you “three times” to Lee, Karen and Sheila! We are always grateful to Beads and Blooms for giv-ing us flowers and greens to fill the bud bases. Flowers from members and friends have added to the fullness of the arrangements this summer. The ministry reaches our friends every week. What a thoughtful way to touch a life and “make a differ-ence.” Join us...

The new study for the Adult Sunday School classes, both 8:30 and 9:30 am, has been put together repre-senting three different denominations. The intent is to provide the intellectual and spiritual stimuli for lively discussions. This is meant to create diversity and commitment to serious Bible study, exploring the valuable application of Scripture to our life expe-rience. This study will begin on September 3, 2017 and end on November 26, just before Advent be-gins on December 3. Please consider joining either one of these classes. You will be surprised, I think, about how valuable these classes will be to your own personal well-being and growth. Editor’s Note: The October Footprints will feature more articles relating to our Vacation Bible School. But this issue contains some great photos! Our pho-tographer was Bill Mitchell. Our webmasters, Jim Clark and Gail Koeppe-Hall, placed the photos on our website . UMW Executive Board - We have changed to Thursday, September 7, at 2:00 pm. To all ladies of the church—you have the chance to attend the Grand Traverse District UMW Annual Meeting without having to travel!! We are hosting it here in our own church on Saturday, September 16. You do need to register by September 10 for the event so that we can give the caterer accurate num-bers. Please plan to treat yourself to an enjoyable, meaningful, and inspirational day. Also, please call Karen Genson (843-2482) if you are willing to help: ushering, child care, refreshments at registration that morning, etc. A registration form is on the next page. You can fill it out and give it to Monica Stewart.

Wow! Thank you, church, for the 26 backpacks, nine kid-safe headphones, and other school supplies; and the checks to the Salvation Army for school supplies. These are collected in July to be able to hand them out in August before school starts. This church has always been generous to the needs of children. We appreciate your gifts. The annual United Methodist Women Fall Bazaar is rapidly approaching, and plans are already underway for organizing the jewelry tables. Sorting jewelry always take time, soooo if you have jewelry to donate it would be really helpful if you can get the jewelry to us sooner rather than later. Each lady is to bring her own lunch to eat and SK will provide beverages. She is excited to have the ladies spend time in her newly completed medita-tive garden behind her home, so wear shoes that will be appropriate for a little bit of walking outdoors. From Dan Sleeman, Administrative Board Chair: I wanted to provide the results to-date for the “matching gift” portion of the Capital Campaign. As I have shared, we have a donor that has offered to match up to $150,000 for donations above and beyond our very successful Capital Campaign. Dennis Genson reports that, as of September 28, we have received a total of $24,516. These gifts will result in an addi-tional $49,032 to be applied to our mortgage.
