At Foothills We ―SOAR‖
Many thanks to PAC for the Spring Dance! Between the
decorations, movie, music and goodies it was a great event
enjoyed by many families and students! It takes an incredible
amount of work to do this event and it is truly appreciated –
Thank you!
Ten students went with Mr. Lang to the Regional Heritage fair
two weeks ago. They represented our school extremely well
with their attitude and enthusiasm. Well done!
Coming up shortly we will be doing two fundraisers. Primary
students can be involved in Jump Rope for Heart which raises
money for the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation and
culminates in a jumping event on the afternoon of June 1. Bowl
for Kids’ Sake is the second fundraiser which involves all
students. The money raised for this goes towards the local Big
Brothers and Big Sisters organization. As a thank you for
participating in the Bowl for Kids’ Sake, Big Brothers and Big
Sisters pay for all of us to go bowling including the bussing to
and from the bowling alley.
Mark your calendars for our intermediate musical, ―Give My
Regards to Broadway‖ on May 31. We look forward to
welcoming families and friends to this event. Many thanks to
Mrs. Neumann and Ms. Helfrich for organizing this musical
performance.
May is the month that an informal Communication of Student
Learning will be occurring. This could come in any number of
communication forms: written, email, phone call, open house,
student self-assessment or other creative way. At the end of
June the formal Summative Report will be handed out to all
students. Have a marvellous, magnificent and memorable May
long weekend!
Mrs. J. Jackson

May’s Sacred Teaching: The Turtle = Truth
Truth is represented by the turtle as he was here during creation of Earth and carries the teachings
of life on his back. The turtle lives life in a slow and meticulous manner, because he understands
the importance of both the journey and the destination. Truth is to know all of these things.
Apply faith and trust in your teachings. Show honour and sincerity in all that you say and do. Understand your place in this life and apply that understanding in the way that you walk.
Be true to yourself and all other things.
Library News:
Books, Books, Books…..
It’s getting to be that time of year when we start doing inventory in the Library. Please, please help your child look for any overdue books that he/she may have. Otherwise, we
will be sending home bills to help with the replacement cost of these lost books. The last
day for students to borrow books will be June 8th. Thanks in advance for your cooperation!
Bowl for Kids’ Sake
Fundraising envelopes were sent home last week to raise money to support the Big Brothers/Big Sisters in-school mentoring program.
Pledge forms are due back to your child’s classroom teachers by May 28th. In return Big Brothers/Sisters will be sending every Foothills’ student on a free field trip to go bowling between June 5-6th. More
details and permission forms coming home soon. Thanks in advance for participating in this excellent fundraiser for a terrific program for
students.
Jump Rope for Heart
The primary students of Foothills will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart on Friday, June 1st in the afternoon. You may see students in your neighborhood collecting donations
for the BC heart and Stroke Foundation. By fundraising for Jump Rope for Heart, donations fund critical research that’s saving lives, preventing heart disease and stroke, and
supporting survivors and their families. Here are just some of the ways the dollars you raise
help:
• $31 million supported approximately 1,000 top medical researchers across Canada.
• 8,000 life-saving automated external defibrillators (AEDs) were placed in
communities across Canada.
• e-Tools ~ (such as the Heart & Stroke Risk Assessment) were developed to empower all Canadians to lead healthier lives.
We partnered to create ~ Stop Marketing to Kids~— a campaign protecting kids from unhealthy food and beverage advertising.
FoodSafe Certification for PAC Volunteers:
For school food programs and PAC fundraising where food is involved, at least one on-site parent is
required to have valid FoodSafe certification. District DPAC is offering a FoodSafe course for PAC volunteers

Cost is $25.00, but if any of our Foothills School PAC members would like to take the course the PAC will
