Congratulations to Liam Duggan (2014 SPC 1st XVIII Captain) who made his debut for the
West Coast Eagles in Round 2 of this year. Liam has played the last five games including
picking up 25 possessions against Greater Western Sydney in Round 5
Congratulations to Josh Cowan (SPC 2008 – 2009) who played his first senior game for
Geelong in1384 days against Collingwood last Friday evening. Josh has been plagued with
injury, battling Achilles and hamstring injuries during this period. Josh has showed incredible
mental strength and resilience through his rehabilitation phase and to quote James Kelly from
Geelong’s leadership team “1384 days in rehab and didn’t hear him complain once … Great
bloke with the strongest of characters,”
Congratulations to Nathan Brown (SPC 2002 – 2006) who plays his 100th
game for the
Collingwood Football Club this weekend. Similar to Josh Cowan, it is a testament to
Nathan’s resilient nature that he has been able to achieve such a milestone having suffered an
ACL knee injury whilst also suffering an AC shoulder injury during his 9 year career for the
Collingwood Football Club.

SPC White 9 – 9 – 63 Defeated BCC 1 -0 - 6
Goal Kickers: Cooper Andrews, 6, Jimmy Wallesz, 2, Kyle Borg.
Best Players: Cooper Andrews, Kyle Borg, Jimmy Wallesz, Aidan Flynn
In a great team effort by the SPC boys we were able to account easily for BCC. With only 12
players BCC kindly agreed to field a reduced team but still outnumbered SPC. Some
fantastic, relentless pressure and smooth gameplay asserted the team's dominance early in the
piece and continued throughout the game. Special mention to Cooper Andrews who kicked 6
goals in a dominant display. A great effort all round.

SPC White 20 -16 - 136 Defeated Mt Clear College 0 – 0 - 0
Goal Kickers: Kyle Borg 4, Cooper Andrews 3, Broden Haintz 2, Jimmy Loader 2, Aidan
Flynn 2, Jack Anderson 2, Sean Antrobus, Nick Spratling, Aidan Hayward, Jimmy Wallesz,
Kye Edwards
Best Players: Will Liston, Sean Antrobus, Ryan Aikman, Aidan Flynn
In cold and trying conditions SPC White relished the opportunity to play on the big stage of
the main oval. SPC shot out of the blocks early piling on 3 goals in the first 3 minutes.
Persistent pressure, tackling, strong teamwork and smart wet weather football proved to be
too much for Mount Clear College. Strong midfield performances from Ryan Aikman and
Will Liston were amongst many highlights for the day. Hats off to the MCC boys as they
organised their own team and are the driving force behind their continued involvement in the
BAS Junior competition.

SPC Green 6 – 8 – 44 Defeated SPC Gold 4 – 12 – 36
SPC Green Goal Kickers: Isaac Grant 4, Lachlan Black, Matt Harbour.
SPC Green Best Players: Will Peucker, Hudson Wilde, Isaac Grant, Brayden Sands, Matt
Catterson, Max Scoble, Jack Tigchelar, Lachlan Wright
SPC Gold Goal Kickers: Will Clark, Max Wood, Angus Creelman, Aiden Hanrahan
SPC Gold Best Players: Angus Creelman, Aiden Hanrahan, Bailey O’Keefe, Sam Fischer,
Luke Cullen, Charlie Whetland, Jackson Kurzman
The SPC Green team won the game with a strong team effort in wintry conditions against the
competitive SPC Gold team.
Kicking into the blistery breeze, Hudson Wilde and Isaac Grant on the ball were very busy
around the ground creating many opportunities for the forwards; Jed Labbett and Sam Tipper
ran hard at the ball and contributed strongly. Matt Harbour and Lachlan Black in his first
game were a focal point up forward. Our defenders led by Brayden Sands, Hugh Valpied in
the back pocket, great pressure from Lachlan Wright stood tall and worked hard to contain
Nunan's forward thrusts. Overall a hard fought game that either side could have won. The
boys should be congratulated on a great effort and for their ability to move the ball with
precision.

SPC Green 2 – 3 - 15 Defeated Ballarat Grammar 1 – 4 - 10
Best Players: Will Peucker, Brayden Sands, Matt Harbour, Dechlan Bailey, Jack Pilbeam,
Lachlan Black, Jed Labbett.
Goal Kickers: Myles King, Dechlan Bailey
The juggernaut continues for the SPC Green team. In wet and slippery conditions it was the
SPC Green who got off to the brighter start. We kicked the only goal of the quarter, opening
up a 4 point lead at the first interval. Ballarat Grammar began to fight back in general play
during the second quarter but still struggled to have an impact on the scoreboard. SPC Green
held a slender lead by 6 points at the half time break. The third quarter was a real arm wrestle
as Grammar continued to throw everything at the Green team. Will Peucker and Nassar
Bibby never gave up in the midfield whilst Matt Harbour was the shining light in defence.
First gamer Myles King showed some positive signs whilst Brayden Sands continued to be a
focal point. All players must be congratulated on their hard fought win in a scrappy game of
football.

SPC Green Junior Coach
A bitterly cold wind greeted the two previously undefeated SPC teams on the main oval,
which was in immaculate condition. SPC green would have been clear favourites for the
match with many tall and strong players showing great form in the season to date. The Nunan
team although small felt confident that they could run the ball and move the ball quickly to
position. This was the case in the first quarter although a score line of 1 goal 5 would prove
telling in the end. With Nunan showing a great ability to tackle and chase and put pressure on
the opposition and then run the ball into the wind they were able to score against the strong
wind and were just three points behind at the half.
There was some optimism that with a good third quarter we could win the game. Another 6
scoring shots with the wind resulted in 2 goals 4 and at three quarter time the score was 4
goals 10 to 4 goals 3. Kicking against the wind was always going to be tough in the last
quater but Nunan created two scoring opportunities in the first 5 minutes. Alas, both were
behinds and despite the great work all day from Angus Creelman, Aiden Hanrahan, Bailey
O’Keefe and great pressure from Luke Cullen we were unable to hold of the strong Galvin
combination. The boys should be congratulated on a great effort and in their ability to play on
quick, handball and kick long. Next week some goal kicking practice may be in order. Well
played boys.

SPC Nunan 17 – 7 - 126 Defeated Ballarat College 2 – 1 – 13
Goal Kickers: Max Wood 6, Jai Brobowski 3, Ben Fraser 2, Blake Scott 2, Jamie Quick,
Jayden Achinson, Mitch Nicholson 1
Best Players: Mitch Nicholson, Max Wood, Ben O’Keefe, Ben Fraser, Nathan Atchinson,
Jai Brobowski
Freezing conditions greeted the Nunan boys on the Hill Oval in their clash against their most
traditional rival, Ballarat and Clarendon College. From the opening bounce, Nunan had the
ascendency with Max Wood kicking 2 first quarter goals in a dominant forward line display.
In very trying conditions, SPC Nunan kicked six unanswered goals in a very dominant
display of Junior football. Strong marks to Mitch Nicholson and Jamie Quick in the forward
50 led to six goals for the team.
The third quarter was again a goal onslaught with an additional 6 goals being kicked for the
quarter. Ben Fraser proved extremely evasive, crumbing well to snap a good goal at the goal
front. In the last quarter the boys were still running the ball out of the back half and playing
on quickly which was pleasing to see in the tough wet and cold conditions. Only one goal
was kick in the last quarter but the damage had already been done. Well done to all the boys
who played and Harry Fraser who came along and did the running.

Ballarat High School 5 – 4 – 34 Defeated SPC Keniry Blue 5 – 3 – 33
Goal Kickers: Jacob Pawlowicz 2, Lachlan Payne 1, 1 Hamish Irvin, 1 Will Henderson 1
Best Players: Hunter Donald, Will Henderson, Siddharth Rajesh, Lachlan Payne, Jacob
Pawlowicz
In difficult windy conditions the SPC Blue boys took on the might of the BHS Blue team on
their home ground. In what was an evenly fought tussle both side played the game in
competitive but fair spirit. The Paddy boys combined well from the middle with Will
Henderson and Hunter Donald being the prime movers. Rhys Elliott was instrumental at full
forward being the architect of a number of goals through his unselfish play. This was
exemplified through a quick handball to first gamer Hamish Irvin who snapped a good goal
from 35m.
The Paddy boys went into three quarter time with an eleven point lead and the wind in the
last quarter. Unfortunately the High School boys were able to kick two goals and hang on to
win by the narrowest of margins.
This was a great learning experience for the Keniry boys, who were disappointed with their
final quarter. They will regroup and look forward to next week's challenge against Damascus
College.

William Henderson 1, Siddharth Rajesh 1, Mitchell McKee
Best Players: Hunter Donald, Siddharth Rajesh, Jack McCallum, Rhys Perry, Rhys Elliott, Alex
Kirby, William Henderson
For the first time in ten years the SPC Keniry Blues made the journey out to Mt Clear to take on
the boys from Damascus College on their own turf.
The Keniry boys were keen to bounce back from a one point loss last week got off to a flying
start posting their first goal through quick ball movement to Rhys Elliott who waiting ready to
pounce. The first half was marred by congested play on the small Damascus ground with the
Paddy boys only posting five goals in the first half after having the majority of the play.
Siddharth Rajesh was supreme across the half forward line setting up many scoring opportunities
and posting one major. Jack McCallum and Rhys Perry run all day being creative in the play that
they set up on their respective wings. Hunter Donald continued in his fine form proving to be a
very important player to the Keniry team through his leadership and example to younger players.
Big men Alex Kirby and Mitch Henderson proved their flexibility playing on ball, up forward
and down back throughout the match. Full forward, Rhys Elliott, finished the game with four
goals bringing his season tally to thirteen in a most dominant display of forward play.
The Keniry Blues run out 73 point winners atoning for last week's disappointing loss.

SPC Blue started well with a goal within the first 30 seconds with Kris Swan winning the tap
to fellow on ballers Tom Clark and Joel O’Connell. Kicking with the wind in the first quarter
SPC started strong kicking 5 goals to none with James Dickson being a strong marking
option up forward. SPC Green competed hard all game but were outclassed by players such
as Dean O’Brien, Jack Butler, Jacob Coxall and Charlie Lloyd. The all-round team
performance from SPC Blue proved too strong despite some positive individual performances
from some SPC Green players.

SPC White 4 – 11 – 35 Defeated Ballarat & Clarendon College 4 – 4 – 28
Goal Kickers: Connor Ronan 4
Best Players: Tyron Blake, Connor Ronan, Max McKee, Xavier Schuurs, Warren Briscoe
SPC White defeated Ballarat and Clarendon College last Tuesday evening in a very even
contest. The game, played in almost arctic conditions on the Ballarat High School Number 2
oval, was a fine example of school boy football. Connor Ronan playing as a deep forward
was pivotal to the side’s success kicking SPC White’s four goals of the game. Tyron Blake
repelled several scoring opportunities and his run from across half back turned defence into
attack. Tyron was named captain for the day and his strong leadership grouped with his
strength when carrying the ball enabled him alongside Connor to be the most influential
player on the ground. Max McKee worked tirelessly in the ruck and he invariably gave his
midfield team mates led by Xavier Schuurs first use of the ball. Special mention must be
made of Warren Briscoe (Year 9) who was conceding both height and weight to his more
experienced opponents, played very well and underlined his potential in the game.
Congratulations on a fine effort in very difficult conditions.

Best Players White: Max McKee, Xavier Schuurs, Ben Noonan, Connor Ronan, Brad Wills,
Fraser Robertson, Isaac Quick
SPC White started the game strongly using the strong breeze to their advantage kicking four
goals to SPC Blue’s one. Max McKee (White) out jumped his taller opponent in Kris Swan
and was influential during this phase of the game. His tap work to Ben Noonan and Connor
Ronan was very poised and together they combined to have a real influence on the contest.
Following some positional changes at quarter time by coaches, SPC Blue responded by
gaining the ascendency in the midfield with Tom Clark and Jack Butler winning several
contested situations against their older and more experienced opponents. SPC Blue kicked
three unanswered goals during the second quarter and by half time SPC Blue had opened up a
two point advantage. Sam Duffy showed his class during this period of the game, marking
with surety and kicking with sublime accuracy. SPC White kicking with the aide of a four
goal wind during the third quarter failed to capitalize on the conditions and leaked two goals
to their younger opponents. Ryan Polkinghorne playing deep in defence, limited White’s
scoring opportunities by intercepting several scoring opportunities. Brad Wills and Fraser
Robertson were both important for SPC White during this phase of the game and their
leadership was most evident throughout the course of the game. SPC Blue kicked the last
three goals of the game and thoroughly deserved their victory. The game was played in great
spirits and was a tough and physical contest with both teams wanting bragging rights as the
best SPC Intermediate side.

SPC Green Best: Mitch Tuddenham, Tom O’Keane, Joe Dodd, Seth Moore, Callum
McKenzie, Jordy Johnston, David Smith, Aiden Domic.
After a slow start against some bigger bodies and a little trouble adjusting to the small
ground, our Year 10 boys settled into some quality football and entered the first break 2 goals
clear. With the opposition pushing extra players back into defence, our running players had to
move the ball around and work their way through the gaps to score after quarter time. Mitch
Tuddenham and Joe Dodd were working hard through the midfield and Seth Moore was
providing excellent pressure around the ball. Callum McKay was marking well and Josh
Harrington was enjoying some freedom to work around the ground. Our boys started the
second half six goals clear but continued with the pressure and run that the opposition had
trouble matching. David Smith (4 goals) led a seven goal to two second half while Aiden
Domic started to generate some creative run off half back. Injuries to Joe Dodd and Jesse
Marshall were the only lowlights in another excellent performance by the intermediate boys
playing in the senior competition.

On a cold and windy afternoon at Ballarat Grammar, SPC White showed their brute strength
in what was a very one sided contest. It took the SPC boys a quarter to warm up, but from
then in it was all one way traffic. The midfield of Clay Raine, Tom Wakefield, Billy Hoye
and Stuart Aberdein were just too classy and too slick for the Grammar boys.
Xavier Curran and the other big men in Joe Downey and Jack Bowen showed strong hands
when the ball was in the air all taking some great contest marks for the game. Ollie Nash
showed classy skills kicking some great goals on the run and setting up many as well, as did
Nick Strachan from the wing. Sam Mewett and Simon Butler showed plenty of courage down
back as did Brayden Leonard at full back who ensured the home team were kept scoreless.
It would be rude not to mention the amazing effort from Clay Raine who kicked ten goals for
the match, a fantastic achievement.
A significant improvement in many areas compared to their last outing which will hopefully
be a sign of things to come over the following weeks. Fantastic effort boys.

SPC White continued their good form into this week with a solid win in ordinary conditions
against Ballarat Clarendon. With a lot of players being picked for 1st XVIII duties the team
had a different look this week. The please thing was that the boys that came in to replace
them all played their role and played well.
Jack Bowen was fantastic in the ruck giving on ballers Tom Wakefield, Sam Mewett and
Simon Butler first use of the footy on multiple occasions. Billy Griffiths was dangerous in the
middle and was able to impact the scoreboard when he pushed forward as well. Sam
McMaster provided plenty of drive from the halfback line along with his other defenders.
Another week down, another win, well done boys.

After a bye last week the boys were looking forward to their next match against Phoenix
College. Despite showers during the day, the sun came out just in time for the match to
commence. Kicking with the aid of a strong breeze, SPC Blue made the most of the
conditions kicking 6 unanswered goals in the first quarter. Ben Russell in the ruck allowed
first use for the on ballers, although at times their entries were slightly erratic. The second
quarter proved more difficult to score into the wind but a strong defensive unit led by Will
Jury and Jack Herbert ensured that Phoenix were limited to the one goal which was to be
their only score for the match.
The third quarter with the assistance of the breeze saw another 5 goals scored by SPC Blue
with the goal kicking honors shared amongst multiple players. Jaylen Marshall, Leslie
Maroney each kicked three goals with several other players kicking two. The coaches were
able to rotate players around different positions to allow for each player to have an
opportunity in several positions.
The final term into the breeze once again saw many missed shots on goal but allowed the
class of players such as Cam Pither and Sam Mead in the midfield gather numerous
possessions and continue their excellent start to the season. In the end the comfortable margin
of 103 points reflected the dominance of SPC Blue and the boys look forward to continuing
their winning form next week.

The SPC Blue team headed to Damascus College for the first time in wet and windy
conditions. With several players promoted to the Firsts this week it allowed for the
opportunity for several others to play a more substantial role for the team. On a very small
ground, the first quarter was an even affair with neither side really able to exert any
dominance. Goals were traded at both ends and at quarter time SPC Blue led by a single goal,
fortunate that Damascus missed several opportunities.
Kicking with the wind in the second quarter, SPC Blue could be forgiven for being lulled into
a false sense of security. Damascus were harder in the contest and as the rain grew heavier
they were able to capitalize and create a three goal lead deep into the second quarter. Sensing
the danger, it was pleasing to see several senior players step up and rally to score two late
goals to minimize the deficit. The midfield led by Liam Howarth, Jett Herman and Jarrod
Illig began to win the contested ball which provided scoring opportunities. In defence James
Halloran played his best game for the team and was well supported by Jed Millard and
Mitchell Steen.
The third quarter was a decisive one as SPC Blue were able to assert themselves. Angus
Dundon in the ruck proved to be the difference in the middle and the on-ballers hammered
away at the goals and Jarman Reid stepped up kicking three crucial goals to open up a lead
deep in the third quarter. This allowed for SPC Blue to be in a strong position in the final
term which resulted in both sides kicking two goals each. SPC Blue held on to win by 20
points.

St Patrick’s College have continued their winning form after another emphatic victory over
Ballarat High School by 177 points.
Following a 197 point win over Grammar the previous match , the Paddy Boys came into this
game very confident however wild conditions made for inaccurate early kicking as SPC
kicked 3 behinds before registering their first goal.
They finished the first quarter with 5 goals and 7 behinds after dominating the play.
St Pat’s players, despite all the play, were struggling to find a target inside 50 with many of
the behinds coming deep entries into the forward 50.
However after the first quarter, St Patrick’s College was back to its usual style of play with
Jacob Weelahan and Tom Evans finding plenty of the ball through the midfield.
It was clear that High School simply lacked the skill level of their opposition with the boys in
the green, white and blue playing a fast paced game making it easy for the forwards to isolate
within the 50 metre arc.
In their last two games, the St Pat’s outfit has outscored its opponents by 374 points whilst
not conceeding a goal.
In what was a solid team performance, there were some individuals who played their role
extremely well and helped their team to the comprehensive win.
Year 11 Jacob Brown in the absence of Ben Hurley who was being rested due to his heavy
programme, acted as the general down back, gathering possessions at will.
Jacob Wheelahan, who was acting captain for the day in the absence of Jacob Hopper, Leigh
Spiteri, Joel Cowan and Ben Simpson, led with authority and his composure and use of the
football was exceptional given the elements of the weather. Jacob is an extremely balanced
clever footballer and considering this was his second game back following shoulder surgery,
he should feel very satisfied with his fine performance.
A new face in Jarrod Korewha (AIS Scholarship recipient), playing his first game of football
at any level for the season, was impressive in his debut match for St Patrick’s College.
St Patrick’s College Coach Mr Howard Clark was glad to see Korewha playing for his side.
“It was great to see Jarod playing his first game for the College after coming back from
breaking a bone in his foot during the pre-season” he said.
“Jarrod played the first 40 minutes of the game and played exceptionally well for the time he
was on, he was extremely strong and athletic and has a bright future in the game if tonight
was any indication of that.”
“I felt that they worked together as a team really well” Clark said.
“When you consider that there’s another 17 players to potentially come into the side, it
underlines the strength of the program.”
St Patrick’s College will continue to look towards the next time they face Clarendon College
in what will be another block buster match on Wednesday May 27 on our main oval.
