Football Pro Culture

Beginning
• NFL started out as the APFA or American Professional Football Association
• Started in Ohio
• College football was more popular
• A lot of good college players didn’t go to professional football
Problems
• Many teams left the NFL in first or second year of existence
• Teams picked their own schedule
• Some teams played non-NFL teams
• No motivation because barely any fans and no pay
• Lack of equipment caused many injuries
• Not an organized sport
Changes in Equipment
• 1920s equipment was mostly leather
• Equipment now is more expensive
• Players equipment is sold to fans for money
Changes in cultural influence
• More Fans have come to love pro football
• People that don’t even like sports have and watch favorite football teams
• Players have become role models to kids
• The Super Bowl has made the NFL so popular that Super Bowl XLV has had the record highest TV rating in history
