Top Story - The Robert Morris University football team returns to action after its first bye week of the 2013 campaign this Saturday, Sept. 28, at 1:30 p.m. as the Colonials travel to take on non- conference foe Virginia Military Institute at Foster Stadium. The Colonials are coming off of a tight, 21-14, setback at home to longtime nemesis Dayton. The squads were tied, 7-7, after three quarters of play, but the Flyers had the edge in the final stanza and held on late by recovering a Colonial onside kick attempt. Senior linebacker Mike Cook nearly equaled a single-game school record last time out when he totaled 19 tackles against Dayton. Robert Morris has had success throughout its history when playing after a bye week, a fact that has been true in recent years as well. RMU enters the weekend ranking among the top 15 at the NCAA’s FCS level in punt returns (14.25 yards per return) and among the top 20 in sacks (3.0 per game). This is the open- ing contest of a two-game road trip for the Colonials as they will face former Northeast Conference (NEC) member Monmouth in a non-conference matchup next Saturday, Oct. 5. Quick Stat of the Afternoon - Robert Morris is coming off of its first bye week of the 2013 season, and if history is any indication, this should bode well for the Colonials. RMU is 15-6-1 (.705) all- time when playing after an off week, including 15-5-1 (.738) in the regular season. RMU has won each of its past four regular-season games when playing after a bye week, winning one such game in each of the past four seasons. This will also mark the third consecutive season in which Robert Morris has had a bye immediately after playing its first three games of the season. RMU posted three-point wins in both 2011 and 2012 when playing its fourth game after a bye week. Greg Langer (2009-12) kicked a game-winning field goal in the final half-minute to down Lafayette, 31-28, last year while current assistant coach Jeff Sinclair (2009-12) led a game- winning, 79-yard drive in the fourth quarter to help defeat Monmouth, 23-20, in 2011. Saturday's Opponent - RMU will renew a series with VMI when it takes the field Saturday. Robert Morris will meet the Keydets for just the third time overall, and it will be the first meet- ing since 2009. VMI has won the previous two meetings in the series, using strong rushing attacks to surge past the Colonials. In the last matchup, Robert Morris had a lead late in the game, but VMI scored with fewer than 90 seconds left to pull ahead, 14-13. The contest was the 2009 season opener for both teams. For more information on the all-time series against VMI, including the last game recap, please see page four of today’s game notes. On This Date (Sept. 28) in Robert Morris Football History - Robert Morris enters Saturday with a 2-0 mark on September 28 in its history with its most recent game on that date coming in 2002. In that contest, RMU used a fourth-quarter rally to come away with a 15-10 victory over Monmouth, one of just two games in program history in which the Colonials netted exactly 15 points. A 14-yard touchdown catch from Ricky Daldo (2001-03) and a safety gave RMU a 9-0 lead fewer than seven minutes into the game. Monmouth found the end zone late in the first quarter, and then neither team scored for more than 35 minutes. The Hawks would take the lead on a field goal early in the final stanza. However, the Colonials retook their edge when Shawn Martin (1999-2002) hit Stephen McNair (2001-02) with a 74-yard touchdown pass to cap a 97-yard drive with just 3:53 left. McNair threw for 231 yards while James Noel (2002-05) led the defen- sive effort with 13 tackles and 1.5 TFL. RMU held the Hawks to just 121 yards of total offense. Head Coach Joe Walton20th Season - Pittsburgh 57

At the forefront of the football renaissance at Robert Morris University throughout its 20-year history is Joe Walton, who has built the Colonials from a fledgling program into one of the top Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams in the region. The one constant associated with the program, Walton was named the first head coach July 27, 1993. He started the program from scratch, completing every-thing from hiring assistant coaches to purchasing equipment to recruiting student-athletes for the teams inaugural season in 1994. Waltons fingerprints are all over the football pro-gram, and to prove that, RMU has played its home games since 2005 in a stadium that bears his name. During his tenure, Walton has led Robert Morris to the

first Northeast Conference championship in 1996, guided RMU to a perfect 10-0 season in 2000 and in 2010 helped lead the Colonials to the NECs inaugural bid to the NCAA FCS Playoffs with their league-high sixth regular-season championship. Its hard to believe, Walton speaks on how fast time has elapsed. Ive said this many times before, and I mean it when I say that this situation is one of the best things that has ever happened to me in my life. It happened at the right time. Before this position became available, I felt I was too young to quit coaching, but I wasnt anxious to get back into pro football. When this came along, it was the per-fect fit. This situation was the perfect opportunity for me to continue to do what I like to do, and Ive loved every minute of it. Under Waltons tutelage, the Colonials have claimed outright NEC regular-season titles three times (1997, 1999, 2000) while sharing three others (1996, 1998, 2010). Walton led Robert Morris to back-to-back ECAC Bowl victories in 1996 and 1997, and in 1999 and 2000 he guided RMU to a pair of NCAA I-AA mid-major national crowns according to Don Hansens National Weekly Football Gazette. In 2010, Walton added to his legacy by engineering the Colonials on an eight-game winning streak for a share of the NEC regular-season title and the NECs first bid in the NCAA FCS Playoffs. In the process he picked up his 100th career victory in the collegiate ranks.

    Game #1VMI 14, Robert Morris 13September 5, 2009 / Lexington, Va.

Foster Stadium (Attendance: 6,084) - Tim Maypray's five-yard touchdown run with 1:27 to play proved to be the difference as VMI garnered a 14-13 victory over Robert Morris in the 2009 sea-son opener for both programs. The Colonials had taken a 13-7 lead with 6:22 to play when senior quarterback Desmond Brentley, making his first collegiate start, hit junior fullback Jeff Link with a one-yard touch-down pass that capped a 12-play, 85-yard drive. However, the extra point attempt by was blocked. The Keydets followed by engineering a 13-play, 79-yard drive for the winning score behind the legs of Howard Abegesah, who rushed for 63 yards on six carries during the decisive drive. RMU got the ball back with 1:27 to play for one last possession but was unable to move the chains, turning the ball over on downs. After a scoreless first half, VMI took the first lead of the afternoon when Emilio Calvin recov-ered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown at the 13:25 mark of the third quarter. Faced with a 3rd-and-14 situation at its own 23-yard line, Robert Morris went to the shotgun for the first time on the 2009 campaign, but the snap sailed over the head of Brentley and into the end zone. Calvin pounced on the loose ball, giving the Keydets their first score of the season and a 7-0 advantage. Despite the mishap, the Colonials answered by marching 73 yards on just six plays to tie the score, 7-7, when Brentley hit senior wide receiver Sherrod Evers for a 14-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone with 9:43 remaining in the third quarter. Junior halfback Myles Russ was the primary offensive weapon for RMU during the drive, car-rying three times for 53 yards, including a 34-yard scamper that gave Robert Morris a first down at the VMI 35-yard line. The Keydets looked like they were going to take the lead in the fourth quarter when they drove to the Colonial 12-yard line, but on consecutive plays Abegesah was stopped for no gain, and on 4th-and-1 Maypray was thrown for a three-yard loss by defensive linemen Mark Szymanski and Farren Mason. RMU's offense seemed to feed off the defensive stand, marching 85 yards for the go-ahead score. The big play came when Brentley hooked up with Evers for a 39-yard completion down to the VMI one-yard line. Robert Morris forced four turnovers on the afternoon, as junior linebacker Alex DiMichele, who finished with a game-high 15 tackles, forced one fumble and recovered three others on the afternoon, while senior cornerback Marvin McCalla notched his first career interception. Russ finished with 145 yards rushing on 23 attempts, an average of 6.3 yards per carry, while Brentley completed 17 of his 26 passing attempts for 151 yards and two touchdowns in his Colonial debut. Evers led the Colonial receiving corps with six catches for 85 yards and a score. Abegesah paced the ground game for VMI, rushing 17 times for 100 yards.

Robert Morris Quick FactsLast Time Out - A 75-yard touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter gave Robert Morris a chance to even the score, but the Colonials could not recover the ensuing onside kick as Dayton topped RMU, 21-14 Redshirt senior A.J. Holderman batted down an attempted pass to prevent a touchdown on a botched field goal attempt by the Flyers Sophomore Kenny Davis caught a career-long 22-yard pass in RMUs final scor-ing drive Junior Hunter Khaleghi made his first collegiate appearance and was 2-for-2 on point after attempts Tony LaMancusa tied his career high with three punts downed inside the 20-yard line RMU fell to 13-9 (.591) all-time when tied at the half.

200 - Robert Morris head coach Joe Walton will coach his 200th game on the sidelines for the Colonials this week against VMI.

Cookie Monster - Redshirt senior Mike Cook nearly matched a single-game school record last time out as he finished with a career-high 19 tackles. The 19 tackles, one shy of matching the record, are tied for the third-highest amount by a Colonial in a contest and are the most since current assistant coach Alex DiMichele (2008-10) notched 19 in 2010. It was Cook's seventh double-figure tackle effort and sixth in his last 12 games. He leads the team with 38 on the year and surpassed 150 for his career last time out.

Go Deep - Duane Mitchell hauled in a 40-yard catch-and-run touchdown in the fourth quarter in RMUs last game against Dayton. It was consistent with Mitchells recent play as he had tallied a 38-yard touchdown catch in the game before that against Morgan State. In fact, each of the last five touchdowns Mitchell has scored has come on a reception of at least 35 yards.

Record Pace - Anytime a player gets off to a fast start, theres always interest if he is on a record-setting pace. Robert Morris currently has two student-athletes who currently project to tie or exceed significant single-season school records. Mike Cooks fast start has him on pace to tally 139 tackles, well beyond the current record. Meanwhile, junior Paul Jones is on target to throw 22 touchdown passes, which would equal the current record, most recently reached by current assistant coach Jeff Sinclair (2009-12).

Pass to Pearson - D.J. Pearson notched a 16-yard touchdown catch Sept. 14 against Dayton. It was just his second career catch, but it was his second TD grab as he found the end zone on his only other reception Nov. 10, 2012. Pearson also caught a two-point attempt in 2012, so each of the three times he has caught the ball, RMU has scored.

New High - Although RMU fell short in its last time out, a number of Colonials still stood out for their individual performances on the defensive end. In fact, five Colonials either bettered or matched their previous career high for tackles in a game. Mike Cook, who nearly tied the school record, had 19, Kyle Cooper matched his best with 12, Forrest Mason collected nine, T.J. Matrascia tallied four and Kimani Smith tied his high of four.

Pick Your Poison - In topping Morgan State in its home opener, one area of strength for RMU was its rushing balance as Deonate Howard amassed 76 yards and Ryan Thermil contributed 75. The last time RMU had two rushers reach 75 yards was in its victory last year over Lafayette. However, quarterback Jeff Sinclair helped achieved the feat that night. The last time RMU had two non-quarterbacks each rush for 75 yards came Oct. 8, 2005 when Devin Wilson (2002-05)and Vince Magnone (2002-06) pulled the trick.

Experience Counts - When taking a look down the Robert Morris roster, the Colonials seem to have a bevy of experience at the offensive line position. RMU returns six play-ers that started on the O-line a season ago. The five projected starters for Saturday's game have combined for 83 starts in their careers. Three of those five A.J. Dalton, Jon Hill and Vince Mongelluzzo have shown their versatility by starting at multiple posi-tions along the line during their time at RMU.

Start Me Up - Tony LaMancusa and D.J. Myers enter Saturday's game with the most consecutive starting assignments of all active Colonials. LaMancusa has served as the punter for 25 straight games while Myers has started each of the past 25 contests at safety. A.J. Dalton is the Colonials active leader in overall starts with 29.

    Game #3 Dayton 21, Robert Morris 14

September 14, 2013 Moon Township, Pa.

Joe Walton Stadium (Attendance: 1,625) - A 75-yard touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter gave Robert Morris a chance to even the score, but the Colonials could not complete the comeback as Dayton topped RMU, 21-14, in non-conference action. Redshirt senior Mike Cook nearly matched a single-game school record as he posted a career-high 19 tackles. Redshirt senior Kyle Cooper tied his career high of 12 tackles. Dayton, who has won seven of its last nine overall, received the opening kickoff and drove into Colonial territory. RMU appeared to have stopped the Flyers, but a penalty extended the drive and contin-ued Dayton's momentum. On the very next play, the Flyers struck first with a 22-yard touchdown pass. Each of the game's next three drives did not amount to significant yardage and resulted in punts. However, on the final one of those punts, the deep man for the Flyers muffed the catch. Junior Mike Stojkovic was all over it and jumped on the loose pigskin. On the second play of the drive, junior Paul Jones hit senior D.J. Pearson in the back left corner of the end zone for a 16-yard TD. The teams combined for just 34 yards on each of the next four drives, and all of them resulted in a punt. Dayton then went on a sustained drive, but the Colonials kept them from getting points despite reaching the red zone. Facing a fourth-and-one from the 5-yard line, the Flyers elected to go for a field goal, but a poor snap left Dayton looking to throw instead. However, redshirt senior A.J. Holderman batted down the attempted pass to prevent a touchdown, helping send the game to intermission at 7-7. Neither team generated much offensively in the first half of the third quarter. After a Colonial interception, Dayton had a chance to take the lead but missed the field goal. RMU moved 47 yards into Dayton territory on its next drive before a sack killed the momentum and forced a punt, which came on the first play of the fourth quarter. Dayton would take the lead on its next possession, using two long passes, including a 41-yard touchdown strike, to pull ahead, 14-7. What appeared to be a promising return on the ensuing kickoff for RMU soon turned into a nightmare when the ball popped free and the Flyers recovered. Dayton used the short field to double its lead. RMU would drive 75 yards on just five plays late in the period. A 22-yard pass to sophomore Kenny Davis moved the ball near midfield. Four plays later, Jones hit junior Duane Mitchell for a 40-yard touch-down. RMU then tried an onside kick but did not recover it.

Last RMU GameMoving On Up - Donte Jeter led Robert Morris in both receptions (37) and receiving yards (631) in 2012. He needs just 58 more yards to become only the 11th Colonial to hit 1,000 receiving yards. He is also just one catch shy of mov-ing into a tie for 10th place in career receptions with 63.

Convert and Continue - RMU converted two fourth-down attempts in its 2013 season opener at No. 19 Eastern Kentucky, carrying over a trend from the end of the 2012 season. It marked the sixth consecutive game that RMU had con-verted at least one fourth down, the longest such stretch for the program since a nine-game streak across the 2003-04 seasons. In fact, in five of the those six contests, the Colonials converted two fourth-down tries. Although this streak came to an end Sept. 7 against Morgan State, that was only because the Colonials didnt attempt a fourth down. Robert Morris again did not go for it on fourth down last time out against Dayton. Nonetheless, RMU has gone 11-for-13 (.846) overall on fourth-down tries in its past eight games.

Nose For The Ball Linebacker Mike Stojkovic has made an impact in each of his first two games in a Colonial uniform. In addition to his 10 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in the last two games, Stojkovic has also tallied a fumble recovery in each of his first two appearances. His first came after a fumble was forced on a sack while his most recent came on punt coverage.

Long Time Coming - Tyler Digby opened the scoring in Robert Morris home-opening win over Morgan State Sept. 7 by hauling in an eight-yard touchdown pass. It wasnt his first time in the end zone, but it had been awhile since he last crossed the goal line. Digbys only other TD to date came during his true freshman season of 2009 when he caught a pass from current assistant coach Jeff Sinclair (2009-12).

The New Guy - In catching a 20-yard touchdown pass Aug. 29 at No. 19 Eastern Kentucky, wideout Alex Caratelli found the end zone as a true freshman in the season opener. In doing so, he became the first Colonial true freshman, at any position, to score a touchdown in a season opener since Mario Hines (2004, 2006-07) caught an 80-yard touchdown pass in the 2004 season opener. In fact, Caratelli and Hines are the only two Colonials in history to catch a touch-down pass as a true freshman in a season opener.

All In One - Chad Dawgiello hauled in a third-quarter touchdown pass, notch-ing his first-career TD, in a Sept. 7 win over Morgan State. However, the reception had more meaning than that as it also doubled as his first-ever collegiate catch. It marked the second straight week that a Colonial receiver tallied his first-career reception and found the end zone on the same play as Alex Caratelli achieved the feat in the opening week of the season.

Any Given Saturday - Entering Saturday's contest against VMI, senior safety D.J. Myers should have pretty good odds of seeing the field, judging solely by his past history. Myers has appeared in 36 games in his RMU career, playing in every game since the beginning of the 2010 season. He is the only active Colonial to own this distinction. Redshirt senior R.J. Cook currently tops the squad as he has played in 38 games in his career.

Fresh Faces - As with any other year, the 2013 season opener featured the first collegiate appearances for some newer Colonials. A total of five Colonials made their first career start at No. 19 Eastern Kentucky, including three on defense. In addition to quarterback Paul Jones, defensive lineman Forrest Mason, linebacker Kimani Smith and safety Sam Collins all received their first-ever starts along with kicker Connor Shennan. As it turns out, a quintet of Colonials also earned their first-ever start in the 2012 season opener. Hunter Khaleghi joined the ranks last time out against Dayton as he earned his first start with RMU, becoming the seventh Colonial to do so this year.

Hall of Famer - The 23rd annual class of inductees into the Robert Morris University Athletic Hall of Fame features just one individual, as head football coach Joe Walton will comprise the Class of 2013. The only head coach the program has ever known, the 2013 campaign is Waltons 20th on the sidelines at RMU. At the conclusion of the sea-son, Walton will step down as head coach and serve as special assistant to the athletic director at Robert Morris. Walton becomes just the second inductee ever to be active at Robert Morris at the time of enshrinement, joining 2012 RMU Athletic Hall of Fame honoree Chris Shovlin, RMUs radio play-by-play announcer. Walton will be inducted Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, with the inaugural RMU Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner. The emcee of the event will be former Washington Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann.

Making the Grade - Senior linebacker Brad Banas (2009-12) and senior defensive line-man Nolan Nearhoof (2009-12) each earned a highly prestigious award last December as both garnered Capital One Academic All-America honors. Nearhoof, a biology major, claimed his third-consecutive Academic All-America honor, but his first of the First Team variety, while Banas, an engineering major, claimed a spot on the Second Team. The Division I Academic All-America football teams encompass student-athletes from both the NCAAs FBS and FCS levels; however, Robert Morris was the only FCS institu-tion to have more than one football Academic All-American in 2012. Banas, who gradu-ated with a 3.96 GPA, and Nearhoof, who graduated with a 3.75 GPA, became the first-ever pair of Colonial teammates from any RMU sport to both claim Academic All-America honors in the same year. Nearhoofs third such honor really moved him into elite company as he became the first football student-athlete from any NEC school, including past football-playing members, to earn three Academic All-America honors in a career. He finished his career as the school leader in career sacks with 26.5.

Mighty Marcelis - Sophomore cornerback Marcelis Branch made a splash in his debut season with RMU as he was tabbed the NEC Defensive Rookie of the Year as well as All-NEC Second Team. He was the only freshman to earn All-NEC honors in 2012 and became the first true freshman to claim an All-NEC award at any position since 2009. Branch played in 10 games and forced five turnovers in that time (3 INT, 2 FF).

Player of the Week - Junior Antwan Eddie earned RMUs first NEC honor of 2013 when he was named Special Teams Co-Player of the Week Sept. 9. Serving as a punt returner for the first time in his career in 2013, Eddie broke out against Morgan State. He amassed 96 yards on four punt returns, marking the second highest single-game total of punt return yards in school history. He tallied three punt returns longer than 20 yards, two of which gave the RMU offense the ball inside the Bears' 40-yard line.

Regulation Only - Entering Saturday's game against VMI, Robert Morris will have gone 72 consecutive games without having a contest go into overtime. That is the longest such streak in program history. In fact, every other current member of the NEC has played at least one overtime game since RMUs last such contest, and four of the Colonials' conference foes have played more than one OT game in this time span. The last time the Colonials headed to overtime was Oct. 14, 2006 when RMU upset No. 19 Central Connecticut State, 23-17 (2OT), in what was the programs first-ever game against a nationally ranked opponent. After Jacky Candy (2006) intercepted a Blue Devil pass right near the goal line in the second extra session, Erik Cwalinski (2005-08) hooked up with Mario Hines (2004, 2006-07) for a game-winning 14-yard touch-down pass on 3rd-and-12. That contest against the Blue Devils remains the only home game in RMU history to go into overtime.

For Starters - When Robert Morris took the field Sept. 14 against Dayton, it sported the same starting lineup on offense as it had the week before against Morgan State. This was quite notable because up until that game, RMU had used 23 different starting combinations on offense in its past 25 games. Due to injuries and changes with the depth chart, RMU actually used 11 distinct starting lineups in its 11 games in 2012. In 2011, the Colonials used nine different starting lineups. The last time the starters had stayed the same from one week to the next was in October 2011. Over the course of the last three seasons, 31 distinct Colonials have started on offense at least once with the latest newcomer to that group being quarterback Paul Jones.

    Head Coach-In-Waiting John Banaszak

Robert Morris University Director of Athletics Craig Coleman, M.D., announced Jan. 24, 2012 that RMU Assistant Head Football Coach John Banaszak has been named the program's coach-in-waiting. Banaszak, who has spent the last 10 years as an assistant coach and assistant head coachwith the Colonials, will take over for current head coach Joe Walton at the conclusion of the2013 season. "Coach Walton has done a tremendous job starting the program from scratch and developing it to its current level," Coleman said. "We are blessed to have another outstanding coach on our staff in Coach Banaszak to provide leadership and excellence when Walton retires." The 2012 season marked Banaszak's 10th season as a member of the Robert Morris footballcoach staff, including his fifth campaign as assistant head coach. Among his many duties with the program, Banaszak is responsible for tutoring the defensive line and the special teams unit. During Banaszak's time at Robert Morris, the Colonials have led the Northeast Conference intotal defense four times (2004, 2006, 2009 and 2010) and have finished in the top five in theleague on nine occasions. Banaszak was a key component to a 2010 defense that led the NEC in total defense, allowingan average of 312.6 yards per game, and coaching a defensive line that recorded 13 of RMU's21 sacks as the Colonials claimed the NEC's inaugural berth in the FCS Playoffs. In 2006, Banaszak helped tutor an RMU defense that led I-AA in total defense, allowing anaverage of just 228.36 yards per game. Under Banaszak's guidance, former defensive lineman Ray Gensler (2003-06) tied the RMUsingle-season school record for sacks with 11 in 2006 en route to earning All-NEC First Teamhonors. Gensler also established a then career record in sacks with 19 thanks to 11 in 2006, andthe Robert Morris defensive line that season recorded 28 and-a-half of RMU's school record 34sacks. Eight of the 11 players in school history to earn All-NEC recognition on the defensive line have come under the tutelage of Banaszak, including Nolan Nearhoof (2009-12), the 2012 NEC Defensive Player of the Year, the fourth Colonial to win that award in Banaszaks time at RMU. Prior to RMU, Banaszak served as the 30th head coach in Washington & Jefferson footballhistory, leading the Presidents to a record of 38-9 (.809) in his four seasons on the sidelinesbetween 1999 and 2002. In each of those four campaigns, he was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and ranks third on the college's all-time victory list. A 1975 graduate of Eastern Michigan with a bachelor's degree in health, physical educationand recreation, Banaszak signed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to the 1975season and was one of only three rookies to make the defending Super Bowl champion teamout of training camp. Primarily a special teams player on Pittsburgh's Super Bowl X championship team, Banaszakstarted five games the following season and then started at both right end and inside tackle in1977 before suffering a knee injury that forced him to the injured reserve list. Between 1978 and 1980, Banaszak started 45 regular-season games at defensive end as the Steelers won back-to-back Super Bowl championships. In Super Bowl XIII, Banaszak recorded six tackles, including a pair of sacks, and a fumble recovery in a 35-31 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, which garnered him Defensive Player of the Game honors. The following year in Super Bowl XIV, Banaszak finished with five tackles and a sack in a 31-19 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.

Robert Morris in the 2013 NEC StatsTop 25 Foes - Robert Morris season-opening opponent, Eastern Kentucky, checked in at No. 19 in the preseason FCS Coaches Poll. After playing just one game against a nationally ranked team in its first 16 seasons of existence, that contest against the Colonels was Robert Morris' fifth game against a nationally ranked squad since the beginning of the 2010 season. It also marked the second straight year that RMU has opened a campaign against a nationally ranked opponent. With RMU set to face EKU in the 2014 opener, theres a good chance it will face a ranked squad to open next season as well.

Get To The Chopper - A quick glance at RMUs record when broken down proves how important it is the Colonials get off to a good start in contests. When Robert Morris is leading at halftime, the program owns an all-time record of 87-12 (.879). When trailing at the break, Robert Morris owns a mark of 11-67-1 (.146). Even going into halftime tied is beneficial, as the Colonials own an overall record of 13-9 (.591) in such games.

The Magic Mark - Since the Colonials began play in 1994, there have been 74 games in which Robert Morris has scored 30 or more points. In those contests RMU boasts a record of 69-5 (.932), including a record of 41-5 (.891) in games in which the team scores between 30 and 39 points. In games in which the Colonials score 40 or more points, RMU is a perfect 28-0.

RMU Football Historical Tidbits - The inaugural running back at Robert Morris, the late Tim Hall (1994-95), rushed for 2,908 yards in his two seasons as a Colonial. Hall still owns the FCS season and career records for yards per carry, with his season record of 8.7 yards per carry set in 1994 and his two-year career record of 7.4 established in 1994 and 1995 ... Hall also ranks fourth all-time in the FCS in both rushing yards per game (153.1) and all-purpose yards per game (194.8) ... Former Colonial linebacker James Noel (2002-05) ranks fifth in the FCS record book for career tackles per game (10.7), while his career tackle total of 437 takedowns ranks 13th all-time ... Former linebacker and current assistant coach Alex DiMichele (2008-10) averaged 10 tackles per game over his three years in a Robert Morris uniform, which ranks 12th all-time in the FCS record book ... Robert Morris has led the nation in passing defense twice in the past 14 years, based on passing effi-ciency defense rating. The Colonials topped the charts in 1999 (with a 80.80 rating) as well as in 2006 (with a 88.70 rating).

Did You Know? - Robert Morris owns the all-time FCS record for the most consecutive quarters while holding an opponent scoreless. During the 1996 season, the Colonials went 15 straight quarters without allowing a single point. In fact, the record-setting streak occurred at the beginning of the sea-son. RMU posted three straight shutouts -- 20-0 against Mercyhurst (9/7), 38-0 against Butler (9/14) and 7-0 against Towson State (9/21) -- to open the campaign and then held Central Connecticut State (9/28) scoreless for the first three quarters before finally allowing a point for the first time all sea-son. In all, Robert Morris went 234:04 before allowing a point in 1996. RMU went 9-2 (.818) in 1996, claiming a share of the NEC championship, and con-ceded just 12.9 points per game.

Colonials in the NFLSince Robert Morris played its first season in 1994, three former Colonials have appeared in a game in the National Football League (NFL), the most among current NEC members in this time span. Many players have rewritten record books at various schools. At Robert Morris, however, Tim Hall wrote the record book. Hall rushed for 2,908 yards on 393 carries in his two seasons in a Colonial uniform and was named an All-American by the Associated Press in 1995. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the sixth round (183rd player overall) in the 1996 NFL Draft. In 1997, he led the Raiders in yards per carry average with 5.2 and was second in rushing yards to Napolean Kaufman. On Sept. 30, 1998, Hall was shot and killed in Kansas City at age 24. Hank Fraley, who played on the offensive line for Robert Morris from 1996-1999, carved out a niche for himself in the NFL for over a decade. Fraley was a three-time Mid-Major All-American during his years at RMU before he was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers to a free-agent contract in April 2000. Fraley was later claimed by the Eagles and started at center for Philadelphia for the entire 2001 season, helping the team to the 2002 NFC Championship game. For four straight seasons with Fraley starting at center from 2002-05, the Eagles appeared in the NFC Championship game. In 2005, Fraley became the first RMU alum to appear in the Super Bowl when he started at center against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. Former RMU defensive back Robb Butler played for the San Diego Chargers during the 2004 season and was featured in special teams situations, including returning kickoffs.
