DiabetesDiabetes is a disease in which a person has high blood glucose levels because their body does not produce insulin anymore or their
body doesn’t respond to it anymore. There are 2 types of diabetes: Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 is usually inherited and usually occurs primarily
in young kids/adults. It is when the body simply does not produce insulin. Type 2 which is the most common with 90% of the cases being this
type. It is when the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells in their body don’t react to it anymore. I am going to focus on Type 2 in
this essay.
A person with Type 2 diabetes needs to watch their diet very carefully. They need to watch what they eat and how much they eat.
They need to keep track of how many carbohydrates, fats and proteins they are eating. They especially need to eat a good amount
carbohydrates because they are what are body turns into blood glucose. Diabetics know their food pyramid well because the foods they should
get enough of are at the bottom—grains and carbs-- and the foods that they should avoid are at the top—the sugars and sweets.
A person with diabetes needs to get plenty of exercise. They need to be active because physical activities help control blood glucose
levels, and keeps your weight and blood pressure down. Most importantly diabetics need to get up and be active instead of just sitting on the
couch and watching TV because that is most likely the reason that they developed the disorder because they ate the wrong food and didn’t get
enough exercise so their body stopped reacting to the insulin that was being produced.
