In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day. Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the third day. Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the

firmament of the heavens.” So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” So the evening and the morning were the fifth day. Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder

Consider all the works Thy hands hath made,

I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,

Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee,

How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee,

How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

How Great Thou Art – Verse 1

Page 11: Food for Thought Welcome to Creation or Evolution - Does it Matter?

When through the woods

and forest glades I wander

And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;

When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,

And hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee,

How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee,

How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

How Great Thou Art – Verse 2

And when I think that God His Son not sparing

Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in,

That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,

He bled and died to take away my sin.

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee,

How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee,

How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

How Great Thou Art – Verse 3

When Christ shall come

with shout of acclamation

And take me home - what joy shall fill my heart!

Then I shall bow in humble adoration

And there proclaim, my God, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee,

How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee,

How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

How Great Thou Art – Verse 4

Evolution

‘the origination of species by development from earlier (simpler) forms of life over millions of years by the processes of natural selection and / or mutation.’

Collins Dictionary

Creation

‘In the beginning GOD created the heavens and the earth’

Genesis 1:1

Evolution: no experimental proof Science based upon observation and

experiment: the scientific method ‘Not one change of species into another is

on record… we cannot prove that a single species has been changed’

Charles Darwin ‘My life and letters’ vol1

Natural selection – not same as evolution Mutations – do not add genetic information

Page 22: Food for Thought Welcome to Creation or Evolution - Does it Matter?

Peppered Moths

Same species: 2 types…both existed before 1800…both exist today

‘One of the best examples of evolution in action’

Where is the evolution?

Page 23: Food for Thought Welcome to Creation or Evolution - Does it Matter?

Evolution: Fossil evidence missing Missing links still missing

‘Firstly, why if species have descended from species by fine gradations, why do we not see everywhere innumerable transitional forms?…this perhaps is the most serious objection to my theory’

Charles Darwin ‘Origin of Species’

ch.VI Difficulties of the theory ‘The family trees which adorn our textbooks are based

on inference, however reasonable, not the evidence of fossils’

Prof. S. J. Gould, ‘Natural History 86, 5, p.13, (1977)

Page 24: Food for Thought Welcome to Creation or Evolution - Does it Matter?

Piltdown Man 1912:

Skull found in a gravel pit in Piltdown, Sussex. Experts convinced that the ‘missing link’ had been

found

1953: the Piltdown skull was fluorine dated human cranium, orangutan jawbone,

teeth filed to look human

Conclusion Deliberate fraud!

Evolution: life from non-life? Everyone has grown from a single

cell Each cell contains more atoms than

there are stars in our galaxy….. No such thing as simple cell –

‘Is it really credible that random processes could have constructed a reality, the smallest element of which…is complex beyond our own creative capacities… which excels in every sense anything produced by the intelligence of man?’

Dr Michael Denton, molecular biologist

‘Evolution – a theory in crisis’ (1986)

Page 26: Food for Thought Welcome to Creation or Evolution - Does it Matter?

Creation: Design everywhere ‘the watch must have had a maker’ The conclusion holds even if:

he had never seen a watch made the watch is imperfect he did not understand fully how it was made

He would be surprised if told that: the watch was nothing more than the result of ‘the laws

of metallic nature’ the mechanism showed no proof of a plan

Page 27: Food for Thought Welcome to Creation or Evolution - Does it Matter?

Information implies intelligence The SETI project

Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence Simple message is proof of intelligence

E.g. ‘2-2-4’ 12 bytes: intelligent source DNA has 4,000,000,000 bytes: accident or

intelligent Source?

Page 28: Food for Thought Welcome to Creation or Evolution - Does it Matter?

Revelation: The Bible Claims to be the Word of God: inspired Completely self consistent: infallible Accurate historically, archaeologically,

scientifically: inerrant Fulfilled prophetically: confirmed Contains 4 eyewitness accounts of the

life of the Lord Jesus Christ ‘Have you not read that He which made them at the

beginning made them male and female?’

Matthew 19:4

Page 29: Food for Thought Welcome to Creation or Evolution - Does it Matter?

Creation: the ultimate proof Jesus Christ claimed to be God Was He Mad ? Bad? or God ? He said things only God can say:

‘I am the way the truth and the life John 14:6

He did things only God can do: control nature, create, give life…

He died and 3 days later rose from the dead

Page 30: Food for Thought Welcome to Creation or Evolution - Does it Matter?

Why did God become Man? Christ has once suffered for sins, the just for the

unjust that He might bring us to God 1 Peter 3:18

For He became sin for us, Who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him’

2 Corinthians 5:21

‘He died that we might be forgiven He died to make us good that we might go at last to heaven saved by His precious blood’

Page 31: Food for Thought Welcome to Creation or Evolution - Does it Matter?

Does it matter? Beliefs about origins influence

behaviour: ‘At some future period, not very far distant,

as measured by centuries, the civilised races of man will almost certainly exterminate and replace throughout the world the savage races.’

Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man

vol. I, 201 Nazis appealed to evolution to justify the

Holocaust: 6,000,000 killed Abortion in the UK: 200,000 per year

Page 32: Food for Thought Welcome to Creation or Evolution - Does it Matter?

The Christian Answer ‘In the beginning GOD created

the heaven and the earth’Genesis 1:1

‘Through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because all sinned’

… Romans 5:12

There is a ‘missing link’ that we all need: Jesus Christ
