PREFACE
There are many reasons which made us to work on
writing this type of book which we feel is going to help
many of the individuals who are keenly interested to
know the health benefits of spices and other foods but
due to lack of knowledge they are unable to use these
food stuffs as medicine to treat their minor problems.
Due to nuclear families and fast life the knowledge of
healing the ailment from home is reducing. Everyone is
ready to use readymade pop up pills from the market to
treat their problem even knowing that they may get some
bad effects.
Secondly many of our patients are staying abroad and
for them providing herbal medicines instantly is not
possible, we try to help them by providing such kind of
remedies which help them till they reach their nearby
health care professional or our herbal medicines reach
them.
The food we eat now a day are somewhere lacking the
flavor of such aromas. Now a day trends of junk and fast
food is increasing and even school going children are
seen eating such foods and cola which are the factors
for many diseases. We feel that as much as we are
reducing adequate spices in our food we are getting
more and more prone to diseases and if we again start
using such type of food stuffs in our diet the chances of
getting caught by any ailment may reduce and we can
live a healthy life naturally.

ASAFOETIDA
Latin Name: Ferula narthex
Hindi Name: Hing
Short Description: Asafoetida is a latex gum obtained
from a perennial plant. The latex is usually collected in earthen pots and dried. It is either packaged in solid blocks or powdered and sold. Asafoetida is popularly called "Hing" in Hindi. You will never find a Indian household without this spice. Indians use it in almost all dishes in small amounts. Asafoetida apart from being an important spice in our day to day cooking, occupies an important place in home remedies too. Since we always have asafoetida at home, it is one of the first spice that we turn to, if anyone is suffering from indigestion. Apart from using it for indigestion, we also use it as a home remedy for menstrual pain, ear ache, body pains and tooth ache. However people with high blood pressure should avoid taking asafoetida separately, as they interfere with pressure medications. Pregnant women and those suffering from blood clotting problems should practice caution when taking asafoetida separately.
Chemical Composition: Asaresinotannol & Disulphide,
due to these asafoeteda has peculiar aroma.
