5 participants with different backgrounds were involved in the workshop. Some of them were from SOS children village; some of them were in conflict with law, family and etc. One of them who didn’t want to be on the photos was a young delinquent.

During the workshop participants were working individually.

The given Keyword was CONFLICT.:

1. Each participant wrote one word connected to the topic (conflict). (5 min.)

2. They exchanged papers and made an abstract composition expressing the word they had gotten by painting, drawing, paper cut... (20 min.)

3. We made a round to see the compositions, expressing the conflict situations. ( 10 min)

4. They changed back the compositions and been asked to solve the conflicts by rearranging, painting, cutting the given picture… (20 min.)

5. In the end we evaluated the new compositions and the solving methods (20 min.)

Being open and honest were the main challenges for the participants with different conflict backgrounds. I needed to make several icebreakers to make more family atmosphere for them. Fortunately, it worked and they managed to express their feelings and attitudes towards different kinds of conflicts. For example, we had compositions which expressed conflicts between persons, family members, countries, personal interests and etc.

We had 10 female participants from 19 to 28 years old. Most of them are the students of colleges or universities. They are the Russian citizens.

The participants were shocked and surprised about the difference of rituals

and customs in different ages and places. We had discussed the beauty in Russia and

shared the personal stories. The participants were very interested about female ways of living in Middle East and

Africa. I think it is a very good toll for the intercultural learning. As a result, the

participants found out that the diversity is amazing thing of our world.

“Beauty through ages and places”

Description and methodology of the activities We used a methology: Beauty trough ages and places. This tool compares the different rituals and and customs on what is considered to be beautiful in different countries and though the time in the same countries - how beauty is shaped by the actual societal norms and laws and is relative. I wanted to make a connection with identity, nationality, culture

Participants Information

Description and methodology of the activities

Main challenges and successes We were surpised to see a city the participants built.

They took the idea very seriously and did a great job.

In the beginning they did not plan to build special

infrastructure for people with less opportunities,

but after the discussion the city was changed.

The group has a good dynamic and the participants

helped each other. Also during the process of building

was the discussing between the participants.

We had 19 participants from 14 to 28 years old. Most of them are the students of colleges or universities. 15% of the participants were the Ukrainian refugees, the rest of the group – Russian citizens.

We have combined two methodologies: Art Therapy and City building. It was a group work activity where the participants were asked to build a city by using the different materials. The idea was to see what a multicultural society they are going to build. Also we have provided the eco bags for doing Art Therapy on it. The participants painted their feelings and wishes about living in the multicultural society on the eco bags

Hosting partner of the activity: Centro Progreso Hosting country: Spain

Venue: Centro Progreso Center Date: From April to May (1 hour per week)

Participants Information We worked this activity in two different groups: with a multicultural group of children and teenagers who need to learn English as a second language. Normally we practice with them classic methodologies like exercises, reading books... but this time it was accepted working with Living Library methodology during a month. We worked too with adult people with psychological problems like Anxiety, depression, gender violence. They normally come to the center for conventional therapy.

Description and methodology of the activities The first day we presented the activity like a different game or workshop in our routine. We explained what is Living Library and it rules and the timetable of the activity. The participants had 15 minutes to think about what they wanted to tell. Then in groups of 5 people, they had to choose one of the books. They had half an hour to be able to ask what they wanted to their book, using English as a principal language (in the case of the children) and in Spanish in the case of the adults. Finally, with the whole group, we talked about what was learned in that session and things that we could improve for the next ones.

Main challenges and successes The main challenges were based on children trying to speak and explain themselves in English for so long. Also, let them be able to talk about their own experiences and analyze their thoughts. For adults, the challenges have been incredible. They have been able to tell their stories in a public way and talk about the problems they had. Contact person: Sarai Torres Iglesias [email protected] *Picture not allowed for privacy reasons.

Hosting partner of the activity: Polish Community Centre in Hull, UK

Hosting country: UK

Venue: West Park, Hull

Date: 18th of April 2017

Participants Information Group of 33 refugees from Congo, Syria and Iraq.

Description and methodology of the activities On 18th of April 2017, I organized an event at the West Park. With support from Project Workers and Refugee Council volunteers, I coordinated engagement activities such as community painting, football games and playing instruments in the park. The aim of the event was to cross boundaries and give people a voice to engage within and without the refugee community. Picnic in the park provided an opportunity for people to socialize and work together by providing a safe space for expression and integration with refugees and residents. I used activity presented by Edson Alberto – “Communitarian Painting”

Main challenges and successes The event increased our refugees’ confidence, self-esteem and understanding, and built up their communication skills. One of the main challenge during the event was to understand idea of the community painting. To overcome that barrier I used interpreters, both Swahilii and Arabic. Hosting partner of the activity: SOS Villagio di Saronno

Hosting country: Italy

Venue: SOS VillagioDate: 5th of August 2017

Participants InformationWe had children aged from 5 to 15 years old. They are the Italian citizens

Description and methodology of the activities

During my European voluntary service with the children from “SOS villagio di Saronno” I had implemented a short parallel activity. It took place in Caldonazzo, Italy, during the summer holidays of 2017.I have learned about this and many other tools during the seminar called “Artool Market” which was held in Palermo, Italy and was organized by “CEIPES”. The tool is called “Communitarian painting” and have been shared by Edson Alberto Ferreira Farrage. Our task was to create a flag of our community. After a short discussion on the above mentionedtopics we decided to put paint on our hands and create a flag that would represent peace, diversity and tolerance. The “hand” in our opinion is representing help to the people who are in need, and the shadows of the leafs that you can also see on the painting were representing our misuse of the nature and its importance from the migration aspect. In our opinion the way that we treat the nature is bringing to the natural cataclysms and making the mother earth become a desert from fertile land.

1. In this first part we will Introduce the topic, and is the space where we will talk, share our experiences, backgrounds and opinions.

2. In this second part we will work in individual draws/creative process, drawing in the papers.

3. In this third part we start to paint it in a wall trying to paint the entire wall filling all the white spots (if is not possible paint on a wall)

4. In this part meantime the painting is drying, we start to think in a word or sentence connected with the topic that we are working at.

The main objectives of the tool were: Team building

Developing group work and creativityBuilding intercultural dialogue

Creating diversity in the communityBuilding tolerant thinking towards migrates

Please, keep in mind that the idea of the flag and the ideas behind the figureswere created by the children. Unfortunately, I can’t present all the pictures of the children and the creating process because of the safety reasons.

Main challenges and successesTThe main challenge was the language barrier for me
