contamination.2. Oil can also turn dark or black due to improper draining of oil while
changing, poor maintenance, or quality of previously used oil and fuel, excessive carbon deposits on engine parts etc.
Is it true that when oil turns dark brown or black it’s time to change the oil?
Not necessarily1. Oil will tend to darken or blacken as it cleans the engine & various parts
and accumulates dirt and soot particles in itself. 2. Heat cycles naturally darken motor oil. Normal oxidation can darken oil,
too. Some additives in motor oil are more susceptible to darkening in the presence of heat than others.

Yes. Vehicles that are driven mostly on short trips are also considered “severeservice,” because short trips don’t get the oil hot enough to drive out or burnoff the water vapor produced from combustion. This vapor condenses andmixes with oil, forming a milky sludge.
If my car is only driven randomly or on very short trips, should I still follow the change oil period?
The oil stocked for longer time when combined with these contaminants mayform into sludge, cause internal corrosion and engine damage.
Oil sitting too long in one spot is not good for the mechanical aspects of yourautomobile. Certain mechanisms must be lubricated and this only can takeplace when the car is running and operating at least twice a week.
Oil changes are cheap compared to replacing an engine that has sludged up.
