It is now at the Grandstand Bar & Restaurant, 85 ­35 Grand Ave., Elmhurst (Queens). Three blocks from the Grand Avenue – Newtown subway station. Near the Q58, Q59, and Q60 buses. The traditional Irish session begins outside at 6pm, followed by a singers session inside at 8pm. Food and drink available; there is no cover charge and no minimum, but a food or drink purchase is expected. Invited guest musicians TBA. †

(F2F) Folk Open Sing: Wednesday, Sept. 1st; 7­10pm (8/4 Sing cancelled) Join us on the first Wednesday of each month as our face­to­face Brooklyn open sing resumes. We hope your summer has been going well with music, making this season a bit easier either by Zoom or even in person. We hope that you are still taking precautions and have been vaccinated, are wearing a mask and washing your hands!

The Sunnyside Singers Club continues to meet on Zoom on Thursday nights and has started to meet in person on Wednesday nights. The Folk Open Sing has also started to meet in person in Brooklyn. The Staten Island Shanty sing is still Virtual. TradMaD will be in person. Check out the information for all of these on pages 2 and 3.

It has been hectic here, in case you are wondering how come we had a late July newsletter and now an August newsletter. Don Wade, my spouse, was not feeling great, but now he has a stent and is feeling much, much better. We are looking forward to going to TradMad! Maybe we will see some of you there.

CANCELLED TradMaD Camp­ live and in person! 8/28th ­­ 9/ 3rd

Traditional Music and Dance Camp is happening at Pinewoods Camp (near Plymouth, Mass.! Cost $815 for members of any of the listed affiliated organizations, and $865 for non­members ­ yes, we're eating the camp cost increase! All participants MUST be fully vaccinated against COVID­19 at least 2 weeks prior to camp and provide a copy of your vaccination record. All camp staff, crew and program staff are fully vaccinated.

Weekend Scholarships Available

Applications are now being accepted for full or partial scholarships to the Fall Weekend, funded by the George Parker, Charles and Ilse Mayer, and the Lil and Lou Appel Scholarships, and by monies raised by our Silent Auctions and from individual donors. Scholarships allow people to come who could not otherwise attend and who have a strong interest in folk music, singing, and/or instrumental playing.

TO APPLY: Please download an application form from the website www. folkmusicny.org/weekends.html, or request an application form from the address below. The most important considerations are financial need and interest in folk music. The candidates will be considered and decided upon at a Board meeting and notified by phone, e-mail, or USPS mail.

The Folk Music Society of New York, Inc./NY Pinewoods Folk Music Club was started in 1965 and is a 501(c)(3) non­profit, educational corpora‐tion; an affiliate of the Country Dance & Song So‐ciety of America and a member of the Folk Alliance. We have approximately 300 members and run con ‐certs, week­ends, classes, and get­togethers, all with an emphasis on traditional music.
