Steve is drawn to instrumental music and, as he calls, it ‘strangely beautiful, weird and dif-ficult stuff’. The evolution of the classical guitar and its repertoire spans more than
four centuries. It has a history that was shaped by contributions from
earlier instruments, such as the lute, the vihuela, and the baroque guitar.

John and Kath were walking down the street one day, when Kath spied a frog sitting on the sidewalk. "Help me, help me!" the frog said. "I used to be a folk singer, but an evil witch turned me into a frog. The only way to break the spell is to kiss me. Help me, help me!" So Kath picked up the frog and put him in her pocket. They continued to walk along. Shortly, the frog popped out of Kath's pocket and repeated (in a most inimitable way) "Help me, help me! I used to be a folk singer, but an evil witch turned me into a frog. The only way to break the spell is to kiss me. Help me, help me!" Kath, again, picked up the frog, put it back into her pocket and they continued to walk along. "Why'd you do that?" asked John "Why don't you kiss the frog and break the spell?" "Frankly," replied Kath, "you can make a lot more money with a talking frog than with a folk singer"

Q: How can you tell if it's a folksinger at the door? A: He can't find his key, and he doesn't know when to come in.
You are lost in the woods and you come across a rich fok singer, a poor folk singer and the Easter Bunny......who do you ask for directions? The poor folk singer....the other two are a

John Phillips recently visited Crete to retrace his father’s steps following the invasion in 1941. He walked over the mountains using the route his Dad and others used to go to the south of the island. Cretan resistance fighters shepherded them over the mountains to the south coast where they were picked up by the Royal Navy and taken to Egypt.

George Psychoundakis during the Cretan resistance
The Cretan runners performed amazing feats and made essential contributions to the British operations in the Mediterranean. In 490 BC Pheidippides ran 42 km from the battle of Marathon to tell about the victory over the Persians, and died just after delivering his message. In comparison, Psychoundakis ran from Kastelli-Kissamou on the northwestern coast of Crete to Paleochora on the southwestern coast in one night. The distance along the present main road is 70 km. Through a rugged landscape with deep ravines, where he had to run to avoid the Germans, the distance may have been twice as far.
The resistance fighters faced baking Cretan summers and severely cold winters, particularly in the hills. Food was often short and fighters suffered from hiding in cold, dripping caves with deep snow outside. The island's fighters were never put to the ultimate test; they had hoped Crete might be a starting point for the invasion of southern Europe. The island was liberated in 1945. The British offered Psychoundakis payment for his work, but he turned them down. He said that he worked for his country and not for money.
The Cretan resistance, helped by the British., carried on fighting. A best-selling book, The Cretan Runner commemorates their actions.

Bob Bull’s lasting fascination for Roman architecture has resulted in an interest group being formed at Boys Camp, as shown by this
example of the group members’ activities.
This pile was possibly one of the three castles
on Offas Dyke?
Bob Bull definitely said this was a
Roman town.........
