Why Medical Doctor

Becoming a doctor has always been a dream of mine. Why? Because

1. I would be applying my knowledge to benefit others and gets the opportunity to teach and pass my skills onto others.

I will get a reward in the hereafter for doing this noble work because as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “When a man dies, all his deeds come to an end except for three – an ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge or a righteous son who will pray for him.” (Narrated by Muslim, 1631)

2. I saw the work of doctors and other healthcare professionals who more or less saved the lives of some of the most important people in my life. Therefore, I couldn't think of a more valuable or fulfilling or personally meaningful career for me so that I can also help taking care of my family.

3. My interest in Science and fascination towards the human body, the way it works, why it doesn’t work and the ever-increasing knowledge about how to keep its systems in balance.

4. I am a patient of heart disease and have sick family members who made me want to become a doctor because I don’t want other people to go through a similar situation.

5. It is a true sense of being able to make a difference to the community. Making diagnosis, treating illnesses, infections and diseases as well as taking care of human well-being would certainly help the society, even the world.

6. I want to help other people. Moreover, I would like to participate in volunteer work as a doctor so I can help treating those refugees in at-war countries. I have been following volunteerism for quite some time and followed people like Rayyan Harries, the noted volunteer who work in many projects like the one in Greece for the Syrian Refugees. I feel mad at myself and helpless for not being able to help those people upfront so I am hoping that one day I can be a volunteer too.

Page 3: Folio Kerjaya

I have also helped during the devastating flood that affected almost the whole of Kelantan state on 2014 by collecting clothes to give to the affected ones whose homes were sunk and destroyed in the flood.

7. The dual nature of medicine. I am drawn to Medicine because it combines both science and humanism, and I am so attracted to the way the human body works.

8. My family is full of doctors. Somewhat, I have grown fond of Medicine after hearing the works in their respective fields. The love for Science spurred in me easily as I have an early insight in Medicine.

9. A handsome salary from which I can use to support my own family.

10. I enjoy the technical aspects of being a medical doctor and enjoy making research. Discovering things is indeed my cup of tea.

11. I really enjoy communicating with people and solving their problems. A career in medicine would allow more to focus more on this aspect.

12. I like to do challenging things in my life and being a medical doctor really appeal to it as humans’ lives are at stake.

13. I am willing to work through a long training process.

14. I love to work in the hospital environment – the sound of doctors, nurses shuffling around to attend to patients, the smell of medications, and the beeping sound made by heart monitors.
