Caterpillar introduces a suite of integrated technologies for M Series, M Series 2 and M Series 3 Motor Graders: Cat® GRADE with Cross Slope, Stable Grade, Auto Articulation and Advanced Control Joysticks. The four technologies improve operator performance and productivity while reducing operating costs.

Cat GRADE with Cross Slope: Fast, accurate grading Cat GRADE with Cross Slope is an optional factory-integrated system that requires no infrastructure, base station, design files or data radios. Simple and cost effective, this 2D system automatically adjusts the slope of the blade based on the operator’s input, instantly delivering a uniform elevation change across the cutting edge. As a result, operators can get to grade quickly and accurately with less fuel, materials and effort. When 3D control is required, the system can be easily upgraded to AccuGrade™.

Stable Grade: Less bounce, more precision Stable Grade is an optional patented technology that detects and reduces machine bounce to improve grading precision. The system automatically decreases engine speed at 15 percent intervals whenever machine bounce is detected. As the grader stabilizes, engine rpm increases systematically until a pre-set level is reached. Settings can be adjusted to match site conditions or operator preferences.

Auto Articulation: Improved maneuverability and productivity Auto Articulation, another patented technology, allows the motor grader operator to articulate automatically while steering, greatly reducing fatigue. The result is improved productivity and maneuverability, particularly when working in tight spaces or around curves, obstacles and turnarounds. All M Series and M Series 3 motor graders come from the factory with Auto Articulation hardware installed and a 500-hour software trial.

Advanced Control Joysticks: Safe, efficient control Advanced Control Joysticks allow operators to steer, shift, articulate, adjust the blade, use Cat GRADE with Cross Slope, operate a snow wing and control auxiliary hydraulics—without taking their hands off the joysticks. Easy to learn and use, these optional controls enhance safety, reduce fatigue and improve operator productivity.

For more information on taking control of your Motor grader’s performance, contact your Foley rep today.

Cat® Grade Control 3D for dozers provides real-time blade tip position and elevation guidance to help operators work more productively and hit target grade faster, with greater accuracy, in fewer passes. Maximize the earthmoving process—from bulk earthworks all the way to finish grade.

Intelligent dozing features and modes optimize the machine for the application by matching blade loads with ground conditions—resulting in full blade loads and smooth grades with less effort.

Features› AutoCarry™ - automates blade lift to maintain desired blade load,

improve load consistency and reduce track slip. Works seamlessly with Grade Control and Rough Grade Modes.

› Auto Blade Assist - automates blade pitch and lift during Load/Carry/Spread cycle based on operator preferences. Works with AutoCarry.

› Automatic Ripper Control - automates ripper height, limits track slip and reduces wear during heavy ripping applications.

Modes› Grade Control - automates blade lift and tilt for more consistent grades.

Maximizes productivity when used with AutoCarry. › Rough Grade - prevents downward movement of blade center below

grade. Permits full tilt-steer capability to maximize productivity. › Grade Protection - prevents entire blade from cutting below desired

grade during manual blade operation to reduce overcutting.

Boost productivity up 50% vs. traditional grading – Contact your Foley rep to learn how.

U.S. Stone IndustriesRelationships Key to Rock Solid Business

A Cat® 330C removes overburden in a Cat 725 haul truck at U.S.

Stone’s Cottonwood quarry. U.S. Stone mines 9 different stones from

6 Kansas quarries. Mining does not take place during the winter

months. If the water in the stone freezes, it will ruin the stone.

Crews process the harvested limestone for a variety of products.

Rob Benzer (left) manages the Bell Quarry for Brent Bayer (right). Bayer and Kent Barnow are partners in U.S. Stone. Bayer handles operations, Barnow handles administrative and sales functions.

6 | FOLEYfocus | Spring 2016

Page 7: Foley Focus Spring 2016

T alk to Brent Bayer, co-owner of U.S. Stone, and you’ll hear language common to any, market-based, customer-centric, forward-thinking company. Words like vision, values,

commitment, teamwork and partnerships are recurring themes. What’s interesting is hearing this within the context of what many people would consider an “old school” business.

Since its beginning in 2001, what Brent Bayer built with his partner, K-State college mate and fraternity brother, Kent Barnow, is a model for thinking big, building smart and establishing strong relationships with employees and outside partners. “The history of this industry has always been stone guys are stone guys. Brick guys are brick guys. We’ve been rewriting that narrative since 2001,” said Bayer.

The FoundationBayer was consulting in day-to-day quarry and manufacturing operations in 2000 when he and Barnow reconnected. While both had different industry careers and experiences, they shared a knowledge of manufacturing, distribution and, most importantly, a vision.

This led to the formation of U.S. Stone in 2001 and the opening of their first quarry, the Bell Quarry, near Cottonwood Falls, Kansas.

Since 2001, U.S. Stone has seen remarkable growth beyond block and slab harvesting. In 2002, U.S. Stone opened a cutting plant for custom fabrication and today sells standard product through a network of over 200 dealers across the U.S. In addition to the low, medium and high-density limestone harvested from their six Kansas quarries, U.S. Stone is also importing some stone from India, Turkey, China and a handful of smaller domestic quarries.

“The bottom line for us has always been that we don’t care if we sell the raw product, custom product or standard product, we just want it to be our product,” Bayer said. “We’re always looking for the next thing. We’ve got as big an umbrella as we need when it comes to partners … strategic distribution partners, suppliers or actual partners in other quarries … all comers are welcome as long as we’re all pulling in the same direction,” Bayer added.

Cat & Foley ConnectionsThe partnership model U.S. Stone deploys with suppliers and distributors extends to Cat and Foley Equipment. U.S. Stone’s fleet of 12 Cat machines spread across their six quarries

includes several track loaders, 950 and 980 wheel loaders and a 330 excavator. Haul trucks are rented on an as-need basis.

“Our relationship with the Cat brand dates back to the days of Martin Tractor and continues today with Foley. I played football at K-State and the relationship is much like a team. Foley has been a good offensive partner when it comes to acquiring the right machine for the job,” Bayer said.

“On the defensive side, our partnership includes Foley Maintenance Plans on all the Cat equipment. Cat has great back-end value when properly maintained. We knew from the beginning that we weren’t big enough to handle our own maintenance and we want a clear line from start to finish on the life of that machine. That’s where Foley has been a great partner … a real win/win for us,” Bayer continued.

“All things being equal, if I don’t hear from the guys in the field that a piece of equipment is broken down, that’s a good

thing and that’s a credit to Foley.” – Brent Bayer

“If you truly give every effort, every day, every moment, people are drawn to you, want to work with you, buy from you. We don’t sell stone, we sell service … ourselves.” – Brent Bayer

Parts & Service

Page 11: Foley Focus Spring 2016

Much like a new release of the latest, greatest cell phone, the market is buzzing with talk of telematics to connect you to your machine assets for better control of operating and maintenance costs. There is no question about the value these solutions can bring to your bottom line.

But this isn’t just about the technology. Anyone can monitor equipment, sometimes from thousands of miles away, and send in a quarterly report on utilization or fuel burn or any of a number of other metrics.

The real value is seen in the people, processes and services that turn that technology into something meaningful and valuable to you. And you won’t find a stronger commitment to the “back end” support services anywhere but Foley. Consider just a few facts:

› Foley has seven decades of investment in delivering Field Service that today, includes over 150 Field Service technicians.

› Foley Maintenance Plans (FMPs) have been providing customers with peace of mind for over 20 years.

› Today’s Foley Maintenance Plans (FMPs) and Equipment Management Solutions are structured to your needs and your budget. This can be as simple as sending lube and filter kits automatically to mobile lube service to full-on, customized fleet management where you operate the machines and Foley takes 100% responsibility for all the maintenance.

› Foley’s first dedicated Lube Service truck went into service over 20 years ago. There are 12 in the fleet today.

› Our goal is to make sure that Preventive Maintenance (PM) services are completed on time and around your schedule.

› Foley’s commitment to field service extends beyond just construction machines and includes engines, backup power generators, switchgear and automatic transfer switches.

The list goes on, but the bottom line for you is that technology and data without context, interpretation and actionable outcomes is useless. It’s about taking that data and turning it into bottom line savings through the vast maintenance services and support you’ll only find at Foley. Talk to your Foley Product Support rep to learn more.

Parts & Service

Page 12: Foley Focus Spring 2016

Since 2007, the Foley Rebuild Center in Park City, Kansas, has provided customers with quality engine rebuilds for the worldwide oil and gas industry, as well as providing cost-effective engine rebuilds for construction customers’ Cat machines.

Engine rebuilds to factory specifications require precision machining services. Foley’s commitment to quality machining equipment has been evident from the beginning and continues with several recent machine additions to the shop; a Sunnen engine block power hone, crankshaft straightener, upgrades to our existing crankshaft inspection equipment, parts tumbler and ABS parts blaster.

“We’re excited to have this new equipment at the Rebuild Center. We can serve customers who need machine shop service, as well as customers with smaller displacement engines. It makes us more efficient and provides faster turnaround for the customer,” said Jack Frederick, Rebuild Center Service Manager.

Here’s a twist on the old Henry Ford phrase, “You can have it in any color you like as long as it’s Cat Yellow.” Not true at Foley!

As a Cat dealer, we paint a lot of Cat Yellow as part of our machine and engine rebuild service. However, the paint shop located at the Foley Rebuild Center can paint any color you want and given our extensive facilities, we can handle just about anything. Here is facility and capability information:

Sunnen CK10 Power Hone The honing capabilities of the CK10 are endless. Choice of stones and speeds can repair any damaged, tapered or out-of-round cylinder. The CK10 handles diameters from 2” to 8”, 11” in length and can hone 0, 30, 60 and 90-degree engine block configurations.

Crankshaft Inspection & Polishing

Recent upgrades to this lathe provide inspection and polishing
