Fold the bag in half, right sides together, aligning band fabrics at sides. Pin both sides. Stitch from top edge to fold using ½” seam allowance (follow second line from left on throat plate). Backstitch at the beginning and end of the seam using Reverse Lever. Remove pins, press seams open.

To prepare lining, fold lining fabric in half, right sides together and pin both sides. Stitch one side with ½” seam allowance, backstitching at beginning and end of seam. Stitch the opposite side as shown, leaving a 6” opening for turning. Shape lining corners same as outer bag in step 6.

Turn bag right side out through opening in lining. Sew opening in lining by machine or by hand. Press the top edge of the bag, then stitch around top edge to secure the handles.

(A) Fold bow strip (4” x 18”) in half, right sides together, so short ends meet. Pin, then stitch with ¼” seam allowance, leaving 1” opening for turning. (B) Press seam open. Fold piece so seam is now in center. Pin top and bottom seams. Stitch with ¼” seam allowance. Trim corners. Turn right side out through opening. Press; hand stitch opening closed. Set aside.

Right sides together, fold bow knot fabric (2½” x 4”) in half, lengthwise. Stitch long edge with ¼” seam allowance. Turn right side out using safety pin. Press under ¼” on one end of “tube”. Pinch bow together in center, then wrap knot piece around it. Slip raw edge of knot into folded end, then hand stitch to secure. Hand sew bow onto bag front.

To give bag shape, fold out corner of fabric so seam matches crease at bottom of bag. Measure 3” from point, then draw a line across the fabric from fold to fold. Stitch across the line, backstitching at beginning and end of seam. Repeat for opposite corner. Turn bag right side out and set aside.

Slide outer bag into lining, right sides together, matching side seams and raw edges. Pin around the bag, then stitch using ½” seam allowance. (Tip: To make it easier to sew around the bag, take the removable extension table off the machine.)
