Complete any presentations from yesterday.Remember the same rules apply. Be courteous to those who still have to present.
Multiplying a Polynomial by a BinomialExample: (3x + 2)(2x2 – 4x + 5)
One way is to use distribution.
Take the first term of the binomial and multiply it to the trinomial.
3x(2x2 – 4x + 5)
6x3 -12x2 + 15x
Then multiply the second term of the binomial and multiply it to the trinomial.
2(2x2 – 4x + 5)
4x2 – 8x + 10
Then combine the like terms from the two products
6x3 -12x2 + 15x + 4x2 – 8x + 10
6x3 -8x2 + 7x + 10
For those who like standard multiplication
2x2 – 4x + 5 multiply 3x + 2 4x2 – 8x + 10 6x3 -12x2 + 15x then add 6x3 – 8x2 + 7x + 10Same answer, but in my opinion if you line up the like terms and add straight down, it is easier.
A little more explanation of the last method
First I multiplied everything on the top by “2”Then I multiplied everything on the top by “3x”I lined up the like terms and added straight down.
Which ever you like, use it!Please complete #1-10 on page 21 as class work.Check your answers with Ms. Cruz.
There is no homework.
Have a great weekend and a nice Memorial Day! I will see you Tuesday, pain or no pain!
