The Three Rivers Festival of Hope is
coming to the Consol Energy Center in
Pittsburgh on August 15-17, 2014.
Franklin Graham, with the Billy Graham
Evangelistic Association, will speak.
Such an event has not come to
Pittsburgh since June, 1993.
Those were great days. Attendance at
Three Rivers Stadium totaled 154,500
people, with more than 12,500 people
coming forward for the needs of their
soul. Our own people at Greensburg
Alliance Church prayed for their friends
and co-workers to come to know Jesus
Christ and took them to the event.

We exist to grow in passion for God and compassion for people.
Volume 10, Issue 4
April, 2014
A core part of our preparation for the
Festival of Hope is attendance at the
Christian Life and Witness Class, offered
by the Billy Graham Evangelistic
Association.
Who: This training event is your
opportunity to be trained in how to share
Christ with others, and it is the primary
training event for those wishing to be
counselors at the Festival in August.
When: Three Monday Nights (April 21, 28,
and May 6) from 7:00pm-9:00pm.
Three Rivers Festival of Hope: Christian Life and Witness Class
We have another great opportunity in
our own backyard.
Who do you know who needs Jesus?
Will you pray for them? Will you invite
them to the Festival?
Will you attend the Christian Life and
Witness Classes being held in late April
and early May?
There are many ways to plant a seed of
the Gospel in someone’s life. But there
are few ways to do so on such a grand
scale!
Pastor Roy Dail
The three sessions are cumulative, so
attendance at all three is expected.*
Where: Amplify Church (Pittsburgh East
Community Church), 9400 Saltsburg
Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15239.
*Other locations and days during those
weeks are available if you are unable to
attend those listed above. Visit their
website: http://www.threerivershope.org/
training. See page 10 of this newsletter
for information on the classes our teens
will be attending (FM419).
Rev. Richard LaFountain will be with us
during the Sunday morning services on
April 27, sharing about the disciplines of
spending time alone with God. Rev.
LaFountain is a pastor and author, who
has followed God’s call to train God-
hungry people in the disciplines of prayer.
Following the morning services, there
will be a two-hour seminar in the
A Day In His Presence, with Rev. Richard LaFountain
afternoon. Lunch will be available in the
fellowship hall, and the youth will provide
childcare for this event, so please plan to
stay for the seminar!
This event is designed to inspire a new
passion for prayer and the presence of
God among us as we look to God and
believe that He can do mighty things
through prayer.

Easter Services
At the Congregational Meeting on March 30, it was decided this year’s Easter offering will be designated for the
purpose of church planting and leadership development in the Gobi region of Mongolia. These funds will further
enhance the partnership we have with Mongolia providing financing for the various projects they have planned.
Please be in prayer about contributing, above and beyond your regular giving, to this fund. Clearly indicate that
your giving is for the “Easter Offering”.
Irwin Male Chorus Concert - Sunday, May 4
The Irwin Male Chorus will present a sacred concert at our church on Sunday, May 4, at 7:00pm. This group has
been performing for over 100 years. One of their members is also a member of our church - Sam Hixson. A free
will offering will be received to benefit the chorus. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow in the
fellowship hall. Be sure to mark your calendar and plan to join us for a wonderful evening of music and fellowship!
Baptism Services - Sunday, May 4
Baptism Services are planned for Sunday, May 4. If you are interested in being baptized and have not yet signed
up, please indicate on your Sunday bulletin information card or contact the church office (724-837-1122). A

Page 3 Volume 10, Issue 4
New Testament Class (1 and 2 Peter, Jude)
Teacher: John Cogan
Location: Room 230/240
1 & 2 Peter and Jude are part of the general
epistles, written by various apostles and church
leaders to general audiences of early
Christians. Peter wrote his letters probably after the
death of Paul. Jude, who was probably the half-
brother of Jesus Christ, wrote about the same time
period as II Peter. The theme of I Peter is suffering as
a Christian. II Peter and Jude deal with false
teachers. We will examine the letters in the light of
our contemporary situation where many Christians
around the world are suffering because of their faith
in Christ, and our continuing struggles with false
teaching.
Spring Adult Sunday School Classes - 9:15am
“Sacred Marriage” and
“The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted”
Teachers: Eric and Joanne Kreinbrook
Location: Conference Room
This class will focus on marriage, using two great
dvd series: “Sacred Marriage” and “The Marriage
You’ve Always Wanted”.
“Sacred Marriage” by Gary L. Thomas invites you to
see how God can use marriage as a discipline and a
motivation to reflect more of the character of Jesus.
Your marriage is much more than a union between
you and your spouse. It is a spiritual discipline ideally
suited to help you know God more fully and
intimately. Sacred Marriage shifts the focus from
marital enrichment to spiritual enrichment in ways
that can help you love your mate more. Whether it is
delightful or difficult, your marriage can become a
doorway to a closer walk with God. Everything about
your marriage - from the history you and your spouse
create, to the love you share, to the forgiveness you
both offer and seek by turn - is filled with the capacity
to help you grow in Christ's character.
“The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted” by Dr. Gary
Chapman gives couples the essential tools they need
to improve and enrich their marriage. Utilizing dvd
clips from Dr. Gary Chapman's widely popular
Chip Ingram's "The Miracle of Life Change"
Teacher: Rusty Loy
Location: Conference Room
So, you've been 'born again'… now what? You were
made for intimacy, beauty, impact and adventure,
but you still struggle to break old habits and keep
your temper in check. Is it really possible to become
more like Christ? It is! In this series, Chip explores
how life-change really happens, even in the midst of
frustrating, painful or mundane circumstances. Don't
give up! Join this class if you are ready to break out
of your old self patterns and embrace new life in
Christ.
conference series, small groups will dive deep into
discussions regarding key topics such as
Communication 101, understanding and expressing
love, initiating positive change, making sex a mutual
joy, and how to share the things that bug you.
Max Lucado's "You'll Get Through This"
Teacher: George Cross
Location: Room 235/245
You’ll get through this. Whatever “this” is - financial
woes, relationship valleys, health crises. You fear you
won’t make it through. You fear that the depression
will never lift, the yelling will never stop, the pain will
never leave. Will this gray sky ever brighten? This
load ever lighten?
Yes! Deliverance is to the Bible what jazz music is
to Mardi Gras: bold, brassy, and everywhere.
Consider the Old Testament story of Joseph - tossed
in a pit by his brothers, sold into slavery, wrongfully
imprisoned. But God wove what was meant for evil
into good.
God is in the business of redeeming the broken. He
was then. He is still. Do you crave some hope for
these tough times? Then this is the message you
need.

Our Moms 24/7 group has been busy building relationships, meeting new people and learning a lot. Even
though it is April, we welcome all moms at any time. Please feel free to join us if you haven't come in a while or
you haven't yet come.
Mark your calendars for our regular meetings Tuesdays, April 8 and 22, at 9:30am. We have a lot of great
things planned, including an educational panel that you won't want to miss. Please see our Moms monthly
newsletter for more information about our Moms Night Out and outreach opportunities.
Moms 24/7 is a ministry for moms of ALL ages with children of ALL ages. Whether you are a first time mom or
you have grandchildren, Moms 24/7 is for you. Whatever your schedule or stage of life, we hope you make
Moms 24/7 part of your life. It is not only an opportunity for you to get refreshed and encouraged, but also a
chance for you to refresh and encourage other moms.
For questions or more information please contact Joanne Kreinbrook at 724-850-7828 or email
Moms 24/7
If you are in your twenties - or a little before or after - we would love to have you join us at one of our next
events. Contact the church office (724-837-1122) if you would like to attend or for more information!
Our next event will be bowling at Hillview Lanes on Sunday, April 27, after church at 1:00pm. Please plan to
eat beforehand or bring or buy your lunch at the bowling alley.
Twenty-Somethings
Young At Heart
Young at Heart will meet on Thursday, April 3, at 11:30am, in the fellowship hall. Pennsylvania State
policeman, Stephen Lunaini, will present a program on safety for seniors. The April committee will decorate
with an Easter/Spring theme and will provide drinks and dessert. Coffee will be brewed by 11:00am for our
early arrivals. We would love to have you join us! Bring a sandwich and a friend or two.
Many thanks to all the parents and grandparents who submitted names and addresses of their college
students. Our committee wrote notes of encouragement to 16 students. Hopefully, they received a little boost
from hearing that their home church was thinking of them and praying for them.
On Saturday, April 19, between 2:00pm and 3:00pm, committee members will visit the Weatherwood Manor
Assisted Living for a time of Christian fellowship. There will be a spiritual message, craft and refreshments.
A food collection will take place on Sundays, April 27, and May 4, for the Salvation Army. Those who wish to
donate non-perishable food and paper items may place them in the boxes under the coat racks in the
fellowship hall. Thank you for helping meet the needs of many.
The next regular meeting of the committee will be held on Sunday, April 27, following the second service in
room 220 at 12:15pm. Anyone interested in joining our group is welcome to attend, or you may indicate your
interest on the back of your Sunday bulletin information card.
Christian Action Committee (CAC)
Page 5 Volume 10, Issue 4
Every Sunday morning prior to the worship services, men come together to pray for the services and our
congregation. All men are welcome to join us in the prayer room located near the sanctuary.
All men and their sons are welcome to join us every Tuesday at 6:30am in the conference room for the Men’s
Bible Study Fellowship. We talk, pray and study God’s Word together to encourage and equip one another for
service to our families, church, work and community. Weekly attendance is not a requirement - drop in as your
schedule allows. Resolve yourself to get into the Word of God and let the Word of God get into you!
We have some great upcoming events planned, so be sure to mark your calendar:
May 30: Hobo Camp Out
July 8: Wings and Go Carts
September 6: Outdoor Break
Watch for additional information on these events in upcoming Sunday morning bulletins!
Men’s Ministry

to invite your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers - or come by yourself - just come! You do not need to be
a mother to attend, or have a mother or daughter to bring, but this event is for ladies only.

Clubbers - get ready to shop at the Awana Store!
This will be your last opportunity for this session of
Awana. Cubbies and Sparks will visit the store on
April 2. T&T girls and boys will shop on April 9.
We will celebrate Easter on April 16, with special
activities planned.
April 23rd is the night for clubbers to catch up on
reciting their verses and earn their final awards
before we break for the summer.
Speaking of awards… You don’t want to miss our
Parent Appreciation Dinner and Clubber Award
Ceremony on April 30! This is a night to thank you
for bringing your children to Awana and helping
them with their lessons and verses during the year.
Dinner will be served in the fellowship hall
starting at 6:30pm. Please sign up at the children’s
ministry registration desk and indicate how many in
your family will be attending. Following the dinner,
we will move to the sanctuary for a video
presentation and the final awards ceremony for the
2013-2014 Awana session.
The Penny Service Project for our Awana
missionaries, Marlin and Donna Fuller, will
continue through April 23. Our special activity for
April is “Guess how many pennies we have
collected?” and “How much do the pennies
weigh?” Prizes will be awarded to the clubber who
submits the guess closest to the amount of
pennies and to the clubber who guesses closest to
the weight of the pennies. Guesses need to be
submitted by April 23.
Awana will resume in September. Watch future
Focus newsletter for details.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding
our Awana Clubs, please contact Jen Conley,
Director of Children’s Ministries (church office,
724-837-1122) or Kevin and Lisa Coughanour,
Awana Commanders (724-887-0513).
Children’s Summer Camps
Information about the children’s summer camps held at Mahaffey, and
sponsored by our C&MA District, is now available at the brochure rack in
the lobby.
Youth camps are designed for children and youth of specific ages to get
together, have fun, meet new friends and learn more about God, His love,
and plans for them as individuals. Each day is full of planned hands-on
activities including Bible lessons, crafts, recreation and missions. Soccer,
basketball, running, horseback riding and creative arts are just a few of the
camps being offered. If registration is received by April 24, a discount is
offered, so be sure to pick up a brochure the next time you are at church
and check out all of the activities.
If you plan to participate in any of the summer camps, please indicate on
the back of your Sunday bulletin information card. Contact Judy Goodge
(724-836-1626) or Jen Conley in the church office (724-837-1122) with
any questions you may have.

Vacation Bible School will be held Monday, August 4, through
Friday, August 8. Our curriculum this year will be Group
Publishing’s “Weird Animals”.
Weird Animals VBS connects with children when they feel
different by introducing them to wonderful animals around the
world. When "weird" means special, unique, and one-of-a-kind, kids
are reminded of Jesus' special love for them - even when they feel
different!
Keep watching for details in upcoming Focus newsletters!

FM 419 (April 22, 29 & May 6) As some of you may know, our church will be participating in Franklin Graham’s Three Rivers Festival of Hope
this summer in Pittsburgh (August 15-17). This will be a well-organized evangelistic opportunity in which
believers will have a chance to bring friends to hear a clear and inspiring presentation of the Gospel with an
invitation to respond. One important element of preparation is attending training events called “Christian Life
and Witness”. The three FM 419 sessions are the “Christian Life and Witness” classes specifically geared
towards teens.
What is FM 419? FM is for “Follow Me” and 419 is for Matthew 4:19 that says, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men”.
The FM 419 training events are three consecutive, high-octane opportunities for youth leaders and the youth to
be trained to reach other young people for Christ. FM 419 is designed to help train teens to live a life that
pleases God, practically equip them to share their faith in Jesus Christ, and qualify them to serve as a counselor
at the Franklin Graham Three Rivers Festival of Hope.
When? Three consecutive Tuesdays, April 22, 29, and May 6.
The meetings will be held in Sewickley and transportation and food will be provided by the church. We will
meet at the church at 5:00pm and return at 10:00pm (sessions will be from 6:30-9:00pm). Please note that
these meetings are training sessions that build upon one another which is why they strongly encourage
participants to commit to all three nights.
Baptism Service (May 4) Baptism is an important step of obedience in the life of a Christian. It is an outward sign of the work that Christ
has done in our lives and serves as a symbol to those around us that we are committed to living our lives for
Him. Our church will be having a baptism service on Sunday, May 4. If you are a teen and are interested in
baptism, please check the appropriate box on the Sunday bulletin information card or talk to Pastor Rigel.
Creation Music Festival Registration (Creation Dates: June 25-29) Creation Northeast is the largest Christian music festival in the country. For the past 26 summers our church
has been taking a group to Creation to spend a week of camping, worship and hearing encouraging messages.
The cost of the trip is $150 per student which includes transportation, a festival ticket and meals throughout
the trip. A non-refundable deposit of $35 is due at sign up. Many of our students consider our annual trip to
Creation as the highlight of their summer. A detailed packet for this year’s trip is available for download on the
church website (greensburgalliance.org).
Mahaffey Camp (July 21-25) Each year, ten students* have the opportunity to volunteer at Mahaffey Family Camp in Mahaffey, PA. On
Monday, July 21, Pastor Rigel will be taking a group of students to the campground (about an hour away) to help
run field games for the children attending the camp. The cost for the entire week is $25 per student which
includes food and lodging. A packet fully explaining the ins and outs of serving at Mahaffey Camp will be
available on the church website. As stated above, this trip is primarily an opportunity to serve and has a limited
number of spots. Applications must be submitted to Pastor Rigel as soon as possible.
*Students must be at least 13 years old to participate; students who have served in previous years will be
given first preference.
