Inaugurating theworkshop at the Multi-Use Convention Centre,Prof. B. Myrboh, Pro-Vice-Chancellor andguest of honour on theoccasion, said training insoft skills would helpstudents in jobinterviews and otherareas of their lives. In hisaddress he also advisedthe students toconcentrate on theirstudies, complete thesemesters sincerely, getgood grades as well asimprove their soft skillsby attending such kindsof workshops. He alsolauded the School ofTechnology fororganizing such kinds ofworkshops which wouldinculcate in the studentsthe spirit of competitionso that they can face

organised by the HindiCell, NEHU tocommemorate the HindiDiwas celebration fromSept 14 to 28 began withan inaugural function onSeptember 15, in theConference Hall,Administration Building.
Prof. B. Myrboh,Pro-Vice-Chancellor,NEHU, whoinaugurated thecelebration, highlightedthe importance of Hindiand its usage, especiallyfor the people of NorthEast. “One feels itsimportance the minuteone steps out of the

North East,” he saidadding that knowledgeof Hindi will bring aboutintegration.
Prof. D.K.Choubey, Head,Department of Hindi,was of the opinion thatjust as English is spokenand used in every sphereof life, so also shouldHindi. He said that justas we have taken theeffort to learn English,we should also do thesame with Hindi. Healso stressed on theimportance of having amulti-lingual dictionaryof Khasi, Garo, Hindiand English. It could bea dictionary having aword whose meaning is
given in Khasi, Hindi andEnglish, he suggested.The same could be donewith Garo, he added. Inthis way, one can learnmore about the locallanguages as well asHindi and English, hesaid. While appreciatingthe efforts made by theHindi Cell, Prof.Choubey urged thegathering to take part inthe progammes so as tothe make the event agrand success.
In his speech, Dr.L. Cajee, Registrar,encouraged the use ofHindi in official worksand urged everyone totake part in thecompetitions organized
by the Hindi Cell.
Later, a Hindimagazine, ‘Nehu Jyoti’was formally releasedby Prof. Myrboh.
Earlier, Ms. JayaBhattacharjee, read outthe message receivedfrom Rajnath Singh,Union Home Ministeron the occasion ofHindi-Diwas.
The HindiFortnight programmesinclude competitions inHindi writing, noting/drafting, translations,extempore speech,essay writing, poemrecitation andantakshari.

The NEHUFaculty Cluborganised a
campus cleaning driveon August 16 incollaboration withMeghalaya Eco FriendlySociety and studentbodies within NEHU.
Armed of gloves,sickles and dustbins,volunteers who includedstudents, teachers aswell as the registrarcleaned the communityhall and roads. Garbagewas then collected bythe garbage truck fromdifferent points.
The enthusiasmshown by all thevolunteers (bothteachers and students)was appreciated by theFaculty ClubM a n a g e m e n tCommittee (FCMC)and it was resolved toorganise more of suchdrives so as to createawareness aboutlittering.

Inter-College Football
The Sports Department, NEHU organised theInter-College Football (Men) Tournament 2014
from July 18th to 24th, 2014 at the J.N.Sports Com-plex, Polo, Shillong.
All together 14 colleges participated in thetournament, which began with an opening ceremonywhere Prof. P.Shukla, Vice-Chancellor, NEHUgraced the occasion as the chief guest.
On July 24th, Prof. B.Myrboh, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, NEHU, was the chief guest at the finalmatch played between Shillong College and St.Anthony’s College, Shillong. Shillong College beatSt. Anthony’s College by 3 goals. The chief guestgave away the trophies and medals to the winnersand runners-up. The program ended with a closingdeclaration by the chief guest.

NEHU also took part in the East Zone Inter-University Table Tennis (Men & Women) 2014which was held from September 27th to October1st at the KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.Both the Men and Women Table Tennis teamsreached the quarter final while the Chess(Combined) team was placed in the 16th position.
