Steel River Playhouse Prepares to Say Goodbye to General Manager on Her Retirement, Launches Search for Replacement Steel River Playhouse, Postown’s out- standing nonprofit education and per- forming arts facility located at 245 E. High St., will soon say goodbye to Diane Nester, the Playhouse’s general manager for the past seven years. Nester will be retiring May 21, 2020 and moving to Florida. Nester says her part-time position at Steel River, a 501(c)(3), “was seriously the best job I ever had.” “The people involved with Steel River, from the staff and volunteers to our pa- trons, are wonderful,” she adds. “I’m so proud of the work that is done at the Play- house. I’m continually amazed by the tal- ent and professionalism of our actors and musicians and the enthusiasm and expert- ise of our educators. We often hear that the quality of our productions mirrors the excellence of off-Broadway performances! “Steel River has become a second home to me and to my husband, Dave. We truly will miss our Steel River family,” she says. Leena Devlin, managing artistic direc- tor for Steel River, says her colleague has been instrumental in creating a more pro- fessional and structured work environ- ment at the Playhouse. “We grew by leaps and bounds in terms of financial reporting and standard- ized procedures under her leadership,” Devlin notes. “Diane also is a great friend to many. Although she won’t be working here, she will always be a treasured mem- ber of the Steel River family.” Prior to joining Steel River in May 2013, Nester was the chairperson of the region’s highly successful 2009 Relay for Life event. Pottstown Dance Theatre RepertoryEnsemble collaborates with professionalinternational pianist, Jeff Nations, for aworld debut work sponsored by the PACouncil on the Arts. The work is beingchoreographed by international danceartist, Michelle Jones Wurtz. The dancersin the work, Lacey Krause, Ashley Reicher,Nina Shenk, Megan Schultz, and EmmaWenerowicz are all dancers in the Rep En-semble and study (and for Ms. Schultzteach) in the school over ten hours weekly.These dancers are dedicated to their craftand are pillars of the community.

The new piece is part of “Jazzerella”which is a fun and modern twist on theclassic fairytale; and it will take place at theHill School Center for the Arts (Beech andSheridan Streets) on March 28 at 7pm andMarch 29 at 3pm. The Repertory Ensembleis performing with professional dancersthat are members of “Melange Contempo-rary Dance”; formerly the resident dancecompany of Steel River Playhouse.Melange has performed there, at the CECin Philadelphia, at Theatre Horizon inNorristown, at McInnis Theater at Eastern

University, at SALT in Phoenixville, andmost notably at the International DanceFestival in Poland.

nia to begin this endeavor. Originallyopened in 1922, Ludwick Motor’s proudlysustained nearly 80 years of history on 132E 3rd Street.

Founding owner, Chuck Harders is anavid collector and dealer of all thingspetrolia and automobilia and keeps hisvast collection displayed throughout theclub. Chuck states, “Designing a space toproperly show the bulk of my collection inone space has always been a dream ofmine. I just wanted these rare finds to beseen and appreciated by others who un-derstand their history.” The collection atRed Horse is massive, encompassing alloriginal antiques dating from the early1960s back to the dawn of the gas and autoindustry. The collection features the fullspectrum of automobilia, including early“visible” gas pumps, neon dealershipsigns, gas station signs, posters, give-aways… and even a 27-foot-long originalpaper highway billboard for the Willys-Knight automobile! Any person, car en-thusiast or not, could spend hours justenjoying the collection alone! As a memberof The Red Horse Motoring Club, you gainfull access to the entire building and collec-

tion, including a state-of-the art audio sys-tem throughout and 15-foot outside moviescreen.

The Red Horse Motoring Club fully uti-lizes its 12,000 square feet by offering dif-ferent areas to relax, host a client, hold ameeting or have a private gathering. TheRed Horse Lounge, originally the Ludwickparts storage room, is now an inviting par-lor with a posh ambiance amidst a rusticaesthetic. John Dorety, a local Philadelphiaantique salvage expert and custom barbuilder designed the walls, posts andbarters using untouched salvage from aPhiladelphia Carriage house that was builtin 1862. was used for decades to lift engine blocksto the upstairs! Smiling, Chuck states, “Wewanted to fill a void in the market place;but wanted to do it in a way that bleweveryone away.” And that they did!
