The girls preferred the “Top of the Pops” front cover because of its colourful aspect and the use of images which make it seem more interesting.

They prefer several artists featuring on the front cover because it makes it seem more interesting and gives the reader a choice. They are more likely to find their favourite artist included and therefore more likely to buy the magazine.

This question helped us decide on the magazine’s name. All three of them chose “Pop-It” as the most suitable name and described it as “sophisticated” suggesting it is appealing to their age range.

As girls, would you rather read a magazine with a male cover star or a female cover star?

Two of the girls said they would rather read a magazine with a male cover star because it attracts them whilst the other said she prefers female cover stars because it inspires them. This highlights the importance of having more than one artist featuring on the front cover.

They all agree that pretty images do attract people to a magazine, they inspire teenage girls and attracts the eye of the reader. It is typical for pop magazines to feature good looking people.

This question helped us decide on the codes and conventions of our magazine. They chose girly colours which was likely to happen as they are typical when it comes to Pop music magazines.

Would you prefer the contents page to be image based or text based? Why?

Results to question 7:

The group said they prefer the contents page to be image based because it is more attractive and interesting and gives the reader a clearer idea of what the magazine includes. However, text is just as important.
