Deciding on a Logo and cover lines

On 16th December I put together a focus group made up of people that are part of my target audience. Firstly I asked them to decide on their favourite title and font. I found that the most liked title was ‘Encore’ and secondly ‘Repeat’. Therefore I decided to rule out NSP and Pulse as names of my music magazine.

The results for the font were quite split, the people I asked said font number 2 (Diffuse-Away) was their least favourite as it did not stand out as much as the rest.

Overall the title Encore seemed to get the best response and was said to be bold and exciting. I think I will stick with the title/logo ‘ENCORE’ as it is related to music and creates a sense of power. It also shows continuality of the magazine.

Here are some of the comments made about the magazine title and font.

• Definition: Additional performance of an item at the end of a concert, as called for by an audience.

• This shows that the magazine provides extra information about music and the magazine will also fulfil the readers needs.

• It is a strong bold title (Nova SOLID) and the capitals make it stand out more which makes it more powerful on the shelf when being against competitors.

I also asked the group what cover lines would be most appealing to them, I they said:

“Stories about the lives of popular

artists”

“Advice on how to become known as

a singer”

“The top 40 to keep it new and up

to date”

“Competitions and offers”

“Concert and festival reviews

such as V Festival”

“Exclusive behind the scenes of

popular events”
