CHAIRMANrsquoS CHAT
Chairmanrsquos message
Well 1st September 2010 was the first day of Spring Irsquove been looking forward to Spring
because I am hoping that it will inspire me to get out and take some better photographs I
wasnt really that motivated during the winter which seems to have lingered on and on so I am
hoping that the new season will encourage me to look for new photographic opportunities I
think that part of the demotivation was that I felt that my photography was in a bit of a rut
Sure I went out and got the photographs to submit to the club and most of them did get gold
awards but for me they were just more of the same thing I didnt really do anything new and
as a result I wasnt that excited about them I find that my photography happens in cycles in
that it alternates between exciting and boring I suppose that it happens to everybody and that
when it is boring and we need to challenge ourselves a little harder That is what improves our
photography
The C ERP S Congress is getting closer very quickly Whilst we had a setback with the
venue it has been sorted out and the Congress will now take place at the Edenvale Community
Centre There are some very good photographers who will be giving lectures on the day That
together with the interclub competition will make for a very enjoyable day I trust that it will be
well represented by Edenvale members who will make the club proud Although most of the
arrangements have already been made the committee will be asking members to assist in
advertising the Congress as widely as possible Also if there are any members who have
contacts with any companies that might sponsor the Congress the committee would love to hear
from you
You probably noticed that the newsletter was now being produced by Ted Kinsman Ted has
kindly taken over this portfolio Editing the newsletter takes a great deal of time and effort and
we are all very grateful to Ted for doing this job Another appointment to the committee was
Andrew Stephens Andrew has taken over the maintenance and development of the website
Fortunately for us Andrew has access to the necessary technical knowledge Although there
was nothing wrong with the original website which was kindly put together by Claudio Cecchi
Andrew is closer to the workings of the club so hopefully we can make it even a more useful
tool for the members I am sure that I speak on behalf of all of the members in saying a very
big thank you to Claudio
Just a reminder to all of the members that if they would like help with any aspect of their
photography they welcome to contact myself or any of the committee members who would be
happy to assist if they are able to This is an offer which is too good to refuse
Happy shooting

EPC MEMBER PROFILE
I bought my first camera Nikon FT2 manual focus in 1970 I always had the desire to take
photos of scenery flowers and animals My wife always complained that I took photos of
places and not people Fifteen years ago I was introduced to a photographic club which was 2
km from my home That was it From that time I have been hooked by photography
Previously I had other hobbies such as squash fishing and hiking and I was very involved with
these But photography is something else for me Concentrating on my hobby and being self-
taught accompanied by photographic books to read and by seeing and learning from the
photographic clubs that I am a member of Edenvale Jabula and Benoni and from certain
member photographers I reached the position I am at now
11 | P a g e
Generally I like all sorts of photography scenic landscapes wildlife nature portrait macro
photography and still-life
My pleasure is to look through my lens and see the subject I am photographing and this
astounds me I have taken photography very seriously
I learnt to use weather conditions for my photos the sunrise and sunset the mist and fog the
clouds the wind and bad weather With these conditions I compose my photos
Many times a year I leave on photographic trips and when I am not away I spend my weekends
taking photos all over Sometimes around here I had the luck to take better photos than on far
away trips After this systematic and dedicated work there is the price and acknowledgement I
have received many local and international medals and I hold honours APSSA digital pictorial
APSSA digital nature and honours APSSA slide pictorial I would like to thank all my
photographer friends for everything they offered me With photographic thanks

A Jack Daniels Fishing Story
I went fishing this morning but after a short time I ran out of worms Then I saw a
cottonmouth with a frog in his mouth Frogs are good bass bait
Knowing the snake couldnt bite me with the frog in his mouth I grabbed him right behind
the head took the frog and put it in my bait bucket
Now the dilemma was how to release the snake without getting bit So I grabbed my bottle of
Jack Daniels and poured a little whiskey in its mouth His eyes rolled back he went limp I
released him into the lake without incident and carried on fishing using the frog
A little later I felt a nudge on my foot There was that same snake with two frogs in his
mouth

Previously I had other hobbies such as squash fishing and hiking and I was very involved with

HUMOUR amp UNUSUAL
A little later I felt a nudge on my foot There was that same snake with two frogs in his
mouth

A little later I felt a nudge on my foot There was that same snake with two frogs in his
mouth

HUMOUR amp UNUSUAL
A little later I felt a nudge on my foot There was that same snake with two frogs in his
mouth
