The Creation of Baxafra Armor

It was through his experiences of competition that Punong Tagapag-turo Baxafra became a promoter of Sports Arnis in the Philippines. Through his experiences in com-petition were not favorable at first, but with determination, the disci-pline of training and learning from his mistakes things turned around and his success have been well noted with 6 times National Cham-pion in Arnis. When Punong Tagapagturo Baxafra created his own system and with his accomplishments, he also started a coaching career which is a different, when teaching Sports Arnis. Hired by the Philippine Normal University for teaching a Sports Arnis program in the education department, eventually he also decided to incorporate a self defense program. So it is to be noted that the instructional (Self Defense) is separate from the tacti-cal (Sports Arnis) and the tactical is separate from the instructions. Keeping the theories and concepts separate in training students he has had several students obtain cham-pionships in competitions. With the help and assis-tance of his wife Jemn (who he taught), who does the annualizing of the other competitors which Bax

can then work with his competi-tors to improve their tactics and concepts in com-petitions. Punong Tagapagturo Ronaldo “Bax” Baxafra cre-ated Baxafra Armor in the

year 1994 and was established September 1997 (It is registered in the name Baxafra Armor at DTI dated September 01, 2006 in the City of Makati. The system that Baxafra Armor teach is Kali Arnis Galaw Tanggulan, Traditional Arnis Doce Generales and Modern Arnis Remy Presas System) at the Philippine Normal University, teaching his younger practitioners (kids), it was suggested that he en-ter them into competition, to bring out the system he was promoting which was Arnis Doce Generales, Modern Arnis and his own style of Galaw Tanggulan. Baxafra Armor started with Ronaldo and Jemn loyal students. The first tournament had few par-ticipants, and a problem was the understanding of the point system being used. Encouraging partici-pants to study the rules of Baxafra Armor, practitioners found that it was easy to adapt to. With this the 2nd Baxafra Armor Tournament the participants grew in support. By the 3rd Baxafra Armor Tournament participation grew even more. The Organization currently has nine (10) chapters. The first is in Laverdad College located at Caloocan City under the guid-ance of Guro Joemicco Salomon.

The second was established in the OTTC (Olympians Taekwondo Center) located at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. The third one is in RDCB Gym found in Fairview near Casa Millan. Both Gyms are personally taken care of Punong Maestro Ronaldo Baxafra, fourth chapter Caloocan High School under Professor Jeffrey Doguiles Teacher I, fifth is Pasay City North High School under Teacher Nuquie Kimberly Rodil, the sixth chapter is in San Bartolome High School in Novaliches under Teacher Edward A. Mirdador, seventh Las Piñas High School under teacher Ariel Artoza, the eight is in Im-maculate Conception Academy in Green Hills Sn. Juan under the personal supervision of Senior Dayang Jessielyn N. Baxafra and the ninth is the Pasay East Elemen-

tary School under teacher Ronnel Zacarias, and Saint Joseph School of Tondo under Teacher John Al-fred Dela Paz. Most of the members of

Baxafra Armor are educators in profession and a licensed teacher who are continuously promoting the art of Filipino martial arts. In his teaching of competi-tors Punong Tagapagturo Baxafra teaches not to compete as a street fighter but with style, accuracy in movement to the rules of Sports Arnis. Some when asked to par-ticipate in a Baxafra Armor Tour-naments say their art is to deadly, however a student needs to com-pete to learn adaptability of their skills and adjust their learning and gain knowledge with actual3com-petition. This will enhance reflexes, speed, balance, coordination and application of techniques.Organizing a Tournament

With the help of Jemn his wife who organizes the tourna-ment, Punong Tagapagturo Bax-afra handles the invitations. Both decided that officials must be trained for fair, honest, and orderly officiating. Note: One important aspect to officiating is the knowledge of the arts, this is also required before the first step towards officiating. The cur-rent problem in the Philippines concerning competition, most of the officials are not practitioners. All Baxafra Armor competitions

ensure that all age ranges are welcome to participate, all indi-viduals and teams and groups. The officiating is professional with each official being a practitioner of some kill and full knowledge of the rules.

The Objective is: Baxafra Armor system promote safe practice of sports Arnis which the kids, young adult and enthusiast can participate moreover we want to ensure the safety of competitors during the tournament so that having a fatal injury could not be possible, aside from having minor bruises that is why we were strictly imple-menting wearing safety protective gears during combat. It is not a game between life and death, it’s a game of promoting positive attitude, self confidence, and pride in ones self.
