FLYSWATTER

JOE PETTIT

(When Narrator is one talking, we cannot see him. When boy is speaking, its the same person, but dialogue)

(Resolution) We open with what I currently vision as a very long edit. It shows a girl sobbing, hiding under a

desk in the dark, and jumping at the sound of gun fire. She sees a body on the ground a few metres away and

the chewing gum stuck to the bottom of the desk. The footsteps come closer.

(In a clear black and white colouring to show past) the boy stands over a dead bird with a video camera.

BOY: LOOKS LIKE SOMEBODY NEEDS A HUG.

He handles it and we see him covered in blood as he walks away. The black and white fades in to colour.

We cut to the main title.

NARRATOR: I, LIKE MANY OF THOSE I INTEND TO MAKE ROT SO SOON AND UNTIMELY (a slow motion shot of

an aged hand dropping dust, as if paying respect at a funeral), AM A MILLENNIAL. WE ARE GENERATION Y;

BORN BETWEEN THE BIRTH OF AIDS AND 9/11, AND PERHAPS EVEN MORE SO THE LATTER, THE GREATER DEAL

OF US ARE, QUITE NAIVELY IMPEDES. (We see our narrator in bath water.)

BEFORE PICKING UP ON MY PSYCHOPATHIC TRAITS, MY AUDIENCE MUST KNOW THAT IT IS EXTREMELY

ISOLATING BEING AS INTELLECTUAL AS ME (the narrator reads horror literature American Psycho; he turns thepage and reveals the chapter title killing child at zoo), AND THAT I HAVE PROVEN MYSELF BY FOOLING YOU IN

TO NOTICING YOUR VERY OWN BAD HABITS THAT WE HAVE IN THAT YOU DIDNT NOTICE THAT IT SHOULD BE

AS INTELLECTUAL AS I RATHER THAN AS INTELLECTUAL AS ME AND ALTHOUGH THIS IS ONLY A MINOR

IRRITANCY TOWARDS SOMEONE LIKE ME, I BELIEVE IT TO BE HYPERBOLIC FOR MILLENNIALS AS A WHOLE,

FILLING OUR MINDS WITH DOGSHIT REALITY TELEVISION AND INJECTING OURSELVES WITH A NUMBNESS

TOWARDS OUR PLANET. (The narrator watches a small TV in the dark) AND WHILE I AM BY NO MEANS

PERFECTION, AND BY ALL MEANS NOT ALL THERE, MY AUDIENCE SHOULD ALSO KNOW THAT THIS IS BECAUSE

IVE SURRENDERED TO MYSELF LONG BEFORE WHAT IM ABOUT TO DO(Smoking on porch, lamb skull by his

side, shot in a film noir style), AND SO NOW, ALTHOUGH I DONT EXPECT YOU TO SYMPATHISE WITH ME, I DO

HOPE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND ME, AND THAT THE CHAOS CAN BEGIN WITHOUT YOU HAVING ANY SHRED OF

DOUBT THAT I AM INDEED UTTERLY, OUTRIGHT INSANE. (Throughout this moment of dialogue our narrator

should be studying the lamb skull. He finds a whole, we cut back and forth from his studying of the whole and

the whole itself. HMMM, he mumbles.

WHAT I AM ABOUT TO DO IS NOT BECAUSE OF MY PARENTS, HEAVY METAL, VIOLENT MOVIES, VIDEO GAMES,

TOY GUNS, MARILYN MANSON, OR THE DRUGS. OKAY MAYBE, THE DRUGS (shot reverses);ITS BECAUSE WE,

ARE BLIND, NARCISSISTIC, AND BORING.

MOTHER WASNT HAPPY WHEN SHE SAW THE DRAWINGS. SHE TOOK OFF, JUST LIKE DAD DID. LOOKS LIKE SHE

DIDNT BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAID (Cutting to flashback)

BOY: I WOULDNT HURT A FLY!!!(Mother is seen driving away)
