Transcript of Fluorescent Tubes Lamps and Globes Recycling
THEFACTSABOUT
Fluorescent tubes containheavy metals that are toxic, and impose a major risk tohuman health and theenvironment.
Up to 15milligramsof mercury isfound in onefluorescenttube.
The mercury, glass, aluminium and phosphorpowder from fluorescenttubes can all be recycled –saving valuableresources and helpingprevent environmentaldamage.
As of 2009,incandescentlight bulbs canno longer be soldin Australia.
It is estimated that 95% ofmercury-containing HIDlamps end up in Australianlandfills each year.
Between2008 and 2020,Australianswill save 28million tonnesof greenhousegas emissions, just by usingmore energyefficientlighting.

FLUORESCENTTUBES, LAMPS& GLOBESAUSTRALIANS DISPOSE OF APPROXIMATELY 50 TO 60 MILLION FLUORESCENTTUBES AND HID (HIGH INDENSITY DISCHARGE) LAMPS EVERY YEAR, RESULTINGIN LARGE AMOUNTS OF MERCURY BEING SENT TO OUR LANDFILLS.
The unsafe disposal of mercury-containingproducts leads to thecontamination of ourfood chain, especially fish.
