Fluid Power
A WebQuest for Technology Education
By: Connor Kelly
What Is Fluid Power
• Energy controlled by the use of pressurized fluid (liquid or gas).
• This can relate to both hydraulics and pneumatics.
Hydraulics
• Uses pressurized liquid
• Many types of liquid can be used
• Hydraulics can be found in many places.
• Use this website to find two types of liquid and 5 uses for hydraulics.
Pneumatics
• Uses compressed air or gas to transfer energy.
• This also uses many types of gasses
• There are also many uses of pneumatic technology.
• Use this website below to find 2 types of gases and 4 uses of pneumatics http://www.eng.iastate.edu/twt/Courses/Undergrad/packet/info/pneumaticsinfo.htm
How Does Fluid Power Work?
• Pascal’s Law:– “Pressure exerted by a confined fluid acts
undiminished equally in all directions”• Who is Pascal? Find 5 facts about him here:
– In other words, no pressure is lost when transferring it through fluid power technologies.
What Are Some Advantages?
• Easy to control/Easy power transfer
• Always a constant force
• High amount of force for it’s low weight.
• Quick response
What are some Disadvantages?
• Possible fire/explosive hazard for some liquids
• Must not contain any outside debris
• Difficult to clean up

objects.• Use these websites:• http://www.ehow.com/about_5478901_uses-hydraulic-systems.html
