Technical supportVencel Resil provides technical and
design support and has a dedicated
team of professionals who have
extensive experience of working in the
industry. Many clients find the technical
support they receive invaluable in
ensuring that specifications are in line
with modern building requirements.
Being more than just a manufacturer of
EPS products, it is the company’s
expertise within this sector and the
knowledge within its team which
establishes Vencel Resil as one of the
leading providers of high performance
insulation.
Jablite – a market leadinginsulation materialVencel Resil has a major UK
manufacturing base, where its Jablite
expanded polystyrene products can be
produced to specific grades and
thicknesses to suit clients’ needs. As
such, the company is constantly seeking
ways to enhance the performance of the
range. Jablite EPS is a proven insulation
material, widely regarded as one of the
most effective on the market, offering
high thermal performance, unrivalled
sustainability credentials, long-term
durability, whilst ensuring its cost
effectiveness in the market.
Jablite PremiumJablite Premium is an innovative Low
Lambda (EPS) insulation material that
has the capacity to enhance a building’s
thermal performance by up to 20%. This
enables builders and contractors to meet
ever tightening Building Regulations
without having to change their build
practices
A relatively new innovation in EPS
insulation, Jablite Premium is becoming
widely used in the floors, walls and roofs
of domestic, public sector and
commercial buildings. Instantly
recognisable by its distinctive grey board
with orange speckles, it provides the
reassurances to architects, specifiers and
contractors that the material used on
site is the same as the one specified and,
crucially, that the resulting performance
matches the approved design intent.
A major benefit of Jablite Premium is
that it offers improved U-values without
having to alter the thickness of the
cavity wall or change the construction
of the floor or roof. This ensures
contractors on site maintain their
efficiency, whilst clients benefit from
maximum internal floorspace and low
running costs.
Vencel Resil is one of the UK’s largest manufacturer’s of expanded
polystyrene (EPS) and under the Jablite brand, supplies a range of
bespoke insulation products and solutions to the construction,
industrial and housebuilding markets. Vencel Resil specialises in
providing industry-leading insulation solutions that meet current
and future Building Regulations requirements for the
specification of floors, walls and roofs of commercial, public
sector and residential buildings.
Established in 1973, the company has been a member of the Synbra Group since
1996. Synbra is a multi-national organisation specialising in producing high quality
EPS products throughout Europe. Being part of a European group means having the
benefit of access to extensive resources and technology.

BRE Green Guide toSpecification The Green Guide, produced by the
British Research Establishment (BRE),
assesses a range of building
products’ environmental
performance over their full life-span
and awards them with a
sustainability rating.
EPS has achieved an A+, which is the
highest rating possible and clearly
demonstrates the material’s
excellent thermal and environmental
credentials. The BRE ranks materials
on the basis that the benefit of using
any of the insulation types listed in
the guide will outweigh
the embodied environmental impact
of their manufacture, installation
and end-of-life disposal.
Environmental credentialsExpanded polystyrene is recognised
for its excellent energy efficiency
and low environmental impact.
It has an ODP (Ozone Depletion
Potential) of zero and a low GWP
(Global Warming Potential), which is
exemplary. Vencel Resil is fully
committed to sustainability in all
areas of its operation. Energy saving
and modern methods of
construction are all carefully
considered when researching and
developing new products, as well as
end of life recyclability.

APPLICATION:Wall insulation – internal wall
Jablite Premium board is suitable for insulating the internal face of all types
of external wall construction, and can be used either in conjunction with
12.5mm plasterboard, or as the insulation part of a proprietary laminate.
Product: Jablite Premium Board
Jablite Premium boardJablite Premium board is available in a
range of thicknesses for use in different
wall-lining systems. It is an economical
method of providing good thermal
insulation and of reducing heating costs.
Walls which have been internally insulated
with Jablite Premium board respond rapidly
to heat input and good standards of
comfort are readily obtained. In buildings
which are only heated intermittently, the
risk of surface condensation is minimised.
Easy to handleJablite Premium board is manufactured
from low lambda expanded polystyrene
(EPS), which is lightweight and easy
to handle.
PermanentJablite Premium board is rot-proof and
durable and will remain effective for the
life of the building; the recommended
fixing methods will retain the boards
permanently in position. It also has the
added advantage of being flood-proof.
Easily cut to fitIf required, boards can be easily cut to
length using a sharp knife. No specialised
trades or equipment are required. Although
this technique is commonly used to
upgrade existing buildings, it is equally
applicable to new build.
EnvironmentExpanded polystyrene has been awarded
an A+ rating by the BRE’s Green Guide to
Specification.
TypeJablite Premium board is supplied as EPS
70 as defined in BS EN 13163 – Reaction
to Fire Class E, containing a flame-
retardant additive.
DimensionsStandard size: 2400 x 1200mm
Standard thickness: 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 75,
and 100mm.
FireJablite Premium board is manufactured
containing a flame-retardant additive.
When properly installed, the insulation is
protected by the plasterboard (or other)
lining and will have no adverse effect on
either the surface spread of flame rating or
the fire performance of the wall.
Thermal ResistanceThe thermal resistance, R-value, of
Jablite Premium board for a range of
common thicknesses is as follows:
25mm 0.83m2K/W
30mm 1.00m2K/W
40mm 1.33m2K/W
50mm 1.67m2K/W
60mm 2.00m2K/W
75mm 2.50m2K/W
100mm 3.33m2K/W
Water vapour transmissionJablite Premium board has a significant
resistance to the passage of water vapour,
but should not be regarded as a vapour-
control layer. The risk of interstitial
condensation can be reduced by placing
a vapour-control layer between the
Jablite Premium board and the
plasterboard facing.
U-valuesTables 20.1 – 20.6 show a selection of
common wall constructions using a range
of materials and give the U-values
achieved according to the thickness of

INSTALLATION
Figures 20.2 – 20.4 show typical methods
of installing Jablite Premium board.
Single layer of JablitePremium board Treated timber battens should be attached
to the wall surface at appropriate centres
to suit the plasterboard. The size of the
battens and the method of fixing should
always be in accordance with the
plasterboard manufacturer’s instructions.
The Jablite Premium board is tight-fitted
between the battens. If the plasterboard
does not incorporate a vapour control
membrane, then a separate vapour-control
layer, consisting of a minimum 1000g
polythene, should be placed over the
insulation, and the edges and joints sealed.
Finally, the plasterboard should be fixed to
the battens in accordance with the
manufacturer’s instructions, and finished
as required. (See figure 20.2).
Double layer of JablitePremium boardThe method of installation is generally as
described above for a single layer system
but a second layer of Jablite Premium
board is fixed across the battens, taking
care that the joints do not coincide. These
boards should be pinned to the battens.
The vapour control layer should be placed
between the plasterboard and the second
layer of insulation. (See figure 20.3).
Composite boardsThe manufacturers of proprietary
EPS/plasterboard and other EPS insulated
composite boards have developed a range
of adhesive and mechanical fixing systems
for their products, and their
recommendations should be followed.
(See figure 20.4).
Further information on manufacturers and
suppliers of these products is available
from Vencel Resil's technical department.

all Insulation
Vapour-control layerJablite Premium board should not be
regarded as a vapour-control layer. The risk
of interstitial condensation can be reduced
by placing a vapour-control layer between
the Jablite Premium board and the
plasterboard facing, or by using
plasterboard which incorporates an
integral vapour-control membrane.
Solid-wall constructionsRegardless of the method chosen for fixing
Jablite Premium board, if the underlying
structure consists of a solid, rather than
cavity wall, a cavity should be provided
between the wall and the insulation in
accordance with the requirements of
Building Regulations Approved
Document C, Section C4.
ServicesService runs should be fixed before the
lining is installed. Any chasing for services
should be made in the wall itself and not
into the insulation. Jablite Premium board
should not be allowed to come into direct
contact with PVC-sheathed cable, nor
closer than 12mm to hot-water pipes;
cables should be protected by the use of a
physical barrier, for example by being
enclosed in a conduit.
ReferencesBuilding Regulations Approved Document C, Sections 5.10 and Diagram 11.
BS EN 13163 Thermal insulation products for buildings – Factory made products of expanded polystyrene (EPS) – Specification
Wall insulation – internal wall
Choice of insulationthicknessIn most cases, the use of a single layer of
insulation fitted between battens will not
provide a U-value which satisfies the
Building Regulations, and the use of a
second layer of Jablite Premium board,
fixed over the battens, rather than
between, can be used to improve the
insulation value to an acceptable level.
(See tables 20.1 – 20.6).

INSTALLATION
Figures 21.2 – 21.4 show typical methods
of installing Jablite board.
Single layer of Jablite boardTreated timber battens should be attached
to the wall surface at appropriate centres
to suit the plasterboard. The size of the
battens and the method of fixing should
always be in accordance with the
plasterboard manufacturer’s instructions.
The Jablite board is tight-fitted between
the battens. If the plasterboard does not
incorporate a vapour control membrane,
then a separate vapour-control layer,
consisting of a minimum 1000g
polythene, should be placed over the
insulation, and the edges and joints sealed.
Finally, the plasterboard should be fixed to
the battens in accordance with the
manufacturer’s instructions, and finished
as required. (See figure 21.2).
Double layer of Jablite boardThe method of installation is generally as
described above for a single layer system
but a second layer of Jablite board is fixed
across the battens, taking care that the
joints do not coincide. These boards
should be pinned to the battens. The
vapour-control layer should be placed
between the plasterboard and the second
layer of insulation. (See figure 21.3).
Composite boardsThe manufacturers of proprietary
EPS/plasterboard and other EPS insulated
composite boards have developed a range
of adhesive and mechanical fixing systems
for their products, and their
recommendations should be followed.
(See figure 21.4).
Further information on manufacturers and
suppliers of these products is available
from Vencel Resil's technical services
department.

Vapour-control layerJablite board should not be regarded as a
vapour-control layer. The risk of interstitial
condensation can be reduced by placing a
vapour-control layer between the Jablite
board and the plasterboard facing, or by
using plasterboard which incorporates an
integral vapour-control membrane.
Solid-wall constructionsRegardless of the method chosen for fixing
Jablite board, if the underlying structure
consists of a solid, rather than cavity wall,
a cavity should be provided between the
wall and the insulation in accordance with
the requirements of Building Regulations
Approved Document C, Section C4.
ServicesService runs should be fixed before the
lining is installed. Any chasing for services
should be made in the wall itself and not
into the insulation. Jablite board should
not be allowed to come into direct
contact with PVC-sheathed cable, nor
closer than 12mm to hot-water pipes;
cables should be protected by the use of
a physical barrier, for example by being
enclosed in a conduit.

Choice of insulationthicknessIn most cases, the use of a single layer of
insulation fitted between battens will not
provide a U-value which satisfies the
Building Regulations, and the use of a
second layer of Jablite board, fixed over the
battens, rather than between, can be used
to improve the insulation value to an
acceptable level. (See tables 21.1 – 21.6).
