Bolon is a Swedish design brand creating expressive floorings for commercial interiors worldwide. Every flooring is designed and produced in Ulricehamn, focusing on sustainability, functionality and diverse aesthetics.

All designs are based on the characteristic Bolon

yarn and the woven three-dimensional structure.

You can combine colours, shapes, and patterns,

making design possibilities nearly endless.

BEAUTY WITHBENEFITS

SUSTAINABILITY

Our production site in Ulricehamn is climate-

neutral using only renewable energy and has an

integrated recycling plant. Here, production waste

is recycled into the backing layer of new floorings.

Our PVC material is solely bought from Best

Environmental Practice PVC suppliers.

DURABILITY

Bolon floorings will not wear, flatten, or dull,

making them perfect for high-intensity commercial

environments. All collections have durability class

32 or 33 and come with a 10- or 15-year warranty.

CLEANABILITY

All floorings are impervious and resilient enough

against almost any spill. The compact weave

doesn’t allow for dirt or debris to hide. And cleaning

can easily be performed with a vacuum cleaner,

brush, mop, or clean water. Most often, no harmful

chemical agents are required.

INDOOR ENVIRONMENT

The floorings are inherently hypoallergenic which

ensures for better indoor air quality. Our floorings

are also free from hazardous plasticizers and

stabilizers.

Bolon Original collections are available in rolls,

BOLON BY YOU

The Bolon By You concept takes you through a

simple 3-stage process that leads to your own

personally designed flooring. It features both roll

and tile patterns and four warp- and twelve weft-

colours not available in our other collections.

FLOORING

BOLON STUDIO™

Our Bolon Studio™ concept allows you to choose

from eight additional tile shapes – Deco, Hexagon,

Rectangle, Triangle, Scale, Wing, Wave and Link. The

Bolon StudioTM tiles are produced on demand. For

further information about tile shapes see page 58.

COLLABORATIONS

Bolon has enjoyed long collaborations with

Missoni Home and Jean Nouvel Design. Together

with these world-renowned design houses, we’ve

created collections that reflect both contemporary

industrial design and haute couture.

ACOUSTIC FLOORING

Our acoustic flooring offers increased impact

sound insulation. It is constructed to reduce the

transmission of footstep noise to rooms below. It is

thicker, matching other types of flooring. This extra

thickness also makes it softer to walk on.

BOLON SOFT RUGS

Bolon soft rugs are made from a combination of

vinyl and textile. The result is a soft look and feel

and a highly durable, versatile design rug.

GREEN WELD

Bolon Green Weld is an innovative cold-welding

product that is healthier for the flooring installer.

The hazardous chemical THF has been replaced

by completely safe and healthy substances.

MISCELLANEOUS

NO GLUE

Bolon NoGlue® is a tape that can be used as an

alternative to adhesive when installing our tiles

and planks wall-to-wall. Using Bolon NoGlue® also

makes our flooring recyclable in the future, when it

reaches the end of its product life.

CUSTOMISE

There are nearly endless design possibilities

for creating and customising Bolon flooring

solutions. We can meet most design requests and

BOLON OFFER

Bolon floorings are composed of four layers, one weave and three backing, giving the product its unique qualities. The weave layer is formed by vinyl warp and weft threads tightly woven together. The variations of the warp and weft yarn together with the different weaving techniques gives Bolon flooring its vast design alternatives.

A CLOSE UP OF THE PRODUCT

THE WARP

The warp is the longitudinal vinyl yarn that together

with the weft forms the weave. Two different kinds

of warp can be used in Bolon flooring: extruded or

folded.

The extruded warp can either be elliptical or profiled

and is used in the jacquard loom, it comes in solid

monochrome colours .

The folded warp comes in solid monochrome or

metallic shades and is used in the dobby loom.

THE WEFT

We extrude our own Bolon weft yarn at our production

plant in Ulricehamn. Each thread is extruded into

a mono or co-ex line, each with polyester core.

There are four different kinds of Bolon weft yarns:

monochrome, mixed mono, glossy or mixed glossy,

all of which can be produced in any colour.

THE WEAVE

At Bolon we have two types of looms: the dobby

and the jacquard. The dobby loom is less complex

creating plain surfaces without any patterns. The

result is a classic woven expression.

The more advanced jacquard loom allows us to

create both unpatterned surfaces as well as bold

patterns, making design possibilities nearly endless.

LAYERS

1. The weave layer consist of vinyl warp and weft

yarns tightly woven together

2. The upper backing layer gives the flooring its

fire-protective properties

3. The middle backing layer consists of glass

fibre giving the flooring dimension and

stability

4. The bottom backing layer contains recycled

material and is changeable for specific needs

such as acoustics

CONSCIOUS GREAT DESIGNAt Bolon, we have always had a strong focus on sustainability. The company was even built upon the idea of reusing wasted material creating rag-rugs. Today we produce all our floorings in Ulricehamn with minimal production waste and 100% renewable energy.

RESOURCE-EFFICIENCY

We create woven design floorings that are

resource-efficient by re-using production waste

in the backing layers. All of our collections contain

recycled material.

INTEGRATED RECYCLINGBEST ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICE PVC

Our raw material (PVC) only comes from

environmental responsible PVC suppliers.

100% RENEWABLE ENERGY

All of our floorings are produced and designed at

our site in Ulricehamn, Sweden. The production

uses only renewable energy resulting in a climate-

neutral site.

At our production site in Ulricehamn we have

integrated a recycling plant which enables us to

reuse our own production waste and pre-consumer

waste from other suppliers. Over the last three

years we have increased our recycling with 500%.

100% FREE FROM PHTHALATES AND HEAVY METALS

Our floorings are 100% free from phthalate

softeners and heavy metal stabilizers. The softener

used is non-hazardous and is also approved for

children’s toys.

PERFORMANCE - SUSTAINABILITY

LESS FOSSIL RAW MATERIALS THAN OTHER PLASTICS

Our floorings are mainly made from lime and

PVC. The PVC is created from chemical processes

of salt and fossil raw materials. By using PVC in

our floorings less fossil raw material is required

compared to other plastic floors.

SMALL IMPACT FROM TRANSPORTATION

We primarily work with suppliers close to our

production site which makes our climate impact

lower. Of our total climate impact, 2% comes from

transportation to the end consumer.

VERY LOW EMISSIONS OF VOC

A Bolon flooring has a very low emission level

of VOC (Volatile organic compounds) during its

product lifetime. It is assigned with the highest

classification label (M1) from Building Information

Foundation.

The unique layered structure of a Bolon flooring provides its impressive durability qualities. The top layer is made out of Bolon yarn creating the characteristic Bolon look and the flooring’s resilience. The backing layers enhance the product performance adding stability and making it impervious to liquids.

DESIGNING FOR THE LONG RUN

SUITABLE FOR COMMERCIAL ENVIRONMENTS

Bolon floorings are both durable and resilient,

following ISO 10874 standard. Depending

on product use, classification is 32 (General

commercial) or 33 (Heavy commercial).

LONG SERVICE LIFE

Bolon flooring will not wear, flatten, or dull. It

will not lose colour nor shape. Our products are

designed and produced to last throughout their

long service lives.

WARRANTY

All floorings come with a 10- or 15-year warranty

depending on the product.

WATER RESISTANCE

Bolon flooring is water-resistant and does not

allow water to penetrate. However, it shall not be

used as a waterproofing/sealing layer in areas like

bathrooms.

FIRE RATING

Bolon flooring complies with the requirements

in the European standard EN 13501-1 (fire

classification of construction products) and has

achieved the rating just below non-combustible

material. This classification is called BflS1 and

includes both fire and smoke production.

Bolon flooring is approved for emergency exit

routes in Sweden.

PERFORMANCE - DURABILITY

ACOUSTICS

Our floorings impact sound insulation varies for

different products from 9dB to 17dB. Make sure to

read the designated product specification.

NON-SLIP

CE certification for the floor includes a slip

resistance assessment. The lowest value for

materials used in public areas is 0.3. Bolon’s

collections have a slip resistance value of >0.5

ANTI-STATIC

Bolon flooring does not generate a static charge,

but it cannot be classified as an electrostatic-

dissipating floor. Our flooring has been tested

and fulfils the requirements of the European

Directive EN 1815.

Bolon floorings are simple to clean and maintain. Thanks to the tightly woven vinyl-structure and the layers of solid backing the floorings are impervious to liquids and resilient enough for almost any spill or mess.

EASY TO CLEAN

EASY TO CLEAN AND MAINTAIN

One of Bolon floorings key benefits is its ease in

cleaning and maintaining. The vast majority of

cleaning tasks can be accomplished with a vacuum

cleaner and scrubbing brush.

ECO-FRIENDLY CLEANING

During a Bolon flooring’s long product lifecycle,

99% of the cleaning can be accomplished with

only clean water.

HYPOALLERGENIC

Bolon floorings are impervious to liquids and have

no exposed fibres where dust, dirt or debris can

hide. The result are floorings with less risk for mold

spores to thrive. Our floorings are recommended by

the Norwegian Asthma and Allergy Association as

they contribute positively to indoor air quality.

CLEANING METHODS

We recommend vacuum cleaning for daily

maintenance and mechanical cleaning (roller

brush or orbot method) at the frequency required

by the specific environment. Smaller areas can

be cleaned manually with micro fibre cloth and

scrubbing brush. (See Support page on bolon.com

for more information)

RESTORING – ZEROING

A badly maintained flooring, or a flooring that

has become extremely dirty can in most cases be

restored to an almost new condition.

Although they are not created solely for this purpose,

Bolon Studio™ tiles are perfect for highlighting

smaller or separate floor areas by giving them a

distinctive, standout look. These products are a

‘weave on demand’ item as they are created as

required for specific projects. Bolon Studio™ tiles

are supplied in the following forms – Deco, Hexagon,

Rectangle, Scale, Triangle, Wing, Wave and Link.

BOLON ORIGINAL TILES

Our original tiles – in other words, tiles not offered

under the Studio concept – are readily available as

stock items. They are slightly thicker than our

Bolon Studio™ tiles and can be ordered in 50 x 50

cm format and as planks. As well as offering exciting

design opportunities, our original tiles are also an

excellent solution for raised floors.

Within the range, both strict graphic forms and

softer, more organic shapes are featured. Together

with innovative use of the selected collections

available in the concept, this wide spectrum of

forms allows for the creation of a huge diversity of

interiors. Furthermore, mixing and matching patterns

and experimenting with different laying styles can

this handmade, industrial flooring with architectural

sensibilities. The collection’s linear design amplifies

spatial geometry creating seamless design unity.

Our Greentag rating covers social responsibility, product eco-friendly composition, VOC emissions and durability.

A selection of our products has been assessed using BRE Global’s Environmental Profiles methodology and achieved an ‘A’ rating for Offices’.

Our product meets CE labelling requirements as specified in CPD directives for safety, health and environment.

Our products content declarations including chemicals are registered with the flooring industry central database in Sweden.

LIFE CYCLE ANALYZE FOR RAW MATERIAL

A volountary system for conveyin environmental information about build products.

Ernst and Young has certified Bolon as conforming with Best Practice PVC environmental guidelines. Bolon’s PVC suppliers and their raw materials attained have been assessed for production to the highest environmental standards.

Bolon flooring is recommended by The Norwegian Asthma and Allergy Association. NAAF is committed to improving the wellbeing of those diagnosed with asthma and allergies.

Bolon is Floorscore certified for indoor air quality (emissions), contributing to a higher LEED rating.
