Flooding in Bangladesh
By Lana spieler
What are the physical causes of floods?
Bangladesh is a mostly flat country. It floods easily. when
rivers flood the water covers most of the land.
In Bangladesh it is usually flat but near Bangladesh there are the
Himalayas, the snow from them melts and flows in to Bangladesh
this causes a flood.
What are the physical causes of floods?
The monsoon storms in Bangladesh every year cause, Bangladesh to flood.
They even have a monsoon season.
What are the Human Causes of Flooding
Deforestation everywhere does have a huge cause, the trees before=re they are gone soke up around 1/3 of the
rain water so the soil does not become saturated, without the trees the soil
does become saturated and has to let water lie on top of the ground.
In Bangladesh in the city water does not have anywhere to get into the ground, the water stays above the
land and it is one of the reasons why Bangladesh floods so badly.
Case Study 1998 Floods
Primary effects of a flood
In floods one of the primary effects is
drowning. This picture shows us a man
drowning in what looks like a flood.
Cattle die in floods. This picture shows us cattle drowning
in a flood.
Primary effects of a flood
In floods crops die because the oxygen can not get to the roots. In floods this is what
happens.
Drowning Diseases Lack of food Dirty water More fish for fishing Rotten food Lack of sanitation
Secondary effects of floods:
In places that have floods with snakes, snakes can swim and try to
look for shelter, the same as humans. Snake bites are fatal to humans and humans can die from
the snake bites.
