• Aspire™ features revolutionary Grip-Strip Technology. Installation requires only a few simple hand tools, and is fast, easy, quiet and clean.

• Aspire™ is intended for interior use only and is suitable for above-grade, on-gradeand below-grade applications. However, Aspire™ should not be installed in locationswhere the substrate beneath the building structure is exposed to the elements.

• Aspire™ is a floating floor and should be allowed to expand and contract freely. Itmust not be glued, nailed, or fastened to the substrate in any way. Install permanentcabinets, vanities, island counters and similar items first, then cut in Aspire™ aroundthem, leaving a ¼-inch space for expansion and contraction. Fill expansion spacesaround potentially wet areas such as refrigerators, tubs and appliances with premiumwaterproof 100% silicone caulk.

• Acclimate and install Aspire™ in climate-controlled structures consistentlymaintained at temperatures no lower than 65°F and no higher than 85°F before, during and after installation. Ambient relative humidity should be maintainedbetween 35% and 85%.

• Direct sunlight may cause Aspire™ to fade or the grip-strip to separate. ProtectAspire™ from direct sunlight using window treatments or UV tinting on windows.Aspire™ is not recommended for use in sunrooms.

• Although Aspire™ is water resistant, constant exposure to excessive moisture mayaffect the product. Moisture issues must be addressed and corrected at the job siteprior to installation.

EVALUATE THE JOB SITE

ExteriorDamage caused by water and high humidity should be addressedprior to installing Aspire™.

• Examine the driveway and landscaping surrounding the building.Be sure that they slope and direct water away from thefoundation.

• Inspect gutters, down spouts and drains for blockage. Removeclogs caused by leaves, dirt and debris, allowing runoff to flowfreely away from the foundation.

• Check crawl spaces for cross-ventilation air vents equaling at least1.5% per 100 square feet of floor space. Crawl spaces shouldmeasure a minimum of 18 inches high and should be insulatedaccording to the latest building code requirements. The groundshould be covered with a minimum 6-mil vapor barrier.

InteriorAlthough Aspire™ is water resistant, moisture issues must beidentified and corrected at the job site prior to installation.

• Examine the installation site for leaky plumbing, including leaksfrom water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines, or any otherwater-bearing fixtures or pipes.

• Inspect substrates for level. They must be sturdy, sound, and flatwithin 3⁄16 of an inch within a 10-foot radius. The substrate shouldnot slope more than 1 inch per 6 feet in any direction.

• Test concrete substrates for relative humidity, moisture and pHbefore installing Aspire™. Test results must not exceed 85%relative humidity (RH). The Calcium Chloride Test for moistureshould be no more than 8lbs per one-thousand square feet in 24 hours MVER, (Moisture Vapor Emission Rating) and pH testsfor alkalinity levels should register between 7 and 9.

• Check wood substrates for moisture. Obvious signs of moistureissues include warping, peaking, degradation of the integrity of the substrate, rusted fasteners, and rusted floor registers. Evenif obvious signs are not present, the material should be testedusing an invasive moisture meter and moisture levels should notexceed 14%.

IDENTIFY YOUR SUBSTRATE

Approved SubstratesAspire™ is suitable for use over a wide variety of substrates.

ConcreteConcrete substrates must be prepared in accordance with the mostcurrent version of ASTM F710 (Standard Practice for PreparingConcrete Floors to Receive Resilient Flooring). Concrete substratesmust be sturdy, sound, and flat within 3⁄16 of an inch within a 10-foot radius. The substrate should not slope more than 1 inch per6 feet in any direction. Allow new concrete, including lightweightand gypsum toppings, to cure for at least 90 days beforeconducting moisture tests. Regardless of the age or grade of theconcrete, always perform the most current version of either RH TestASTM F2170 or Calcium Chloride Test ASTM F1869 and pH TestASTM F710 prior to installation. NOTE: Various Federal, State and Local government agencies haveregulations governing the removal of in-place asbestos-containingmaterial. If you contemplate the removal of a resilient floorcovering structure that contains (or is presumed to contain)asbestos, you must review and comply with all applicableregulations. Do not sand, dry sweep, dry scrape, drill, saw, beadblast, or mechanically chip or pulverize existing resilient flooring, backing, lining felt, asphalt "cut-back” adhesive, or other adhesive. These products may contain asbestos fibers and/or crystallinesilica. Avoid creating dust. Inhalation of such dust is a cancer andrespiratory tract hazard. Smoking by individuals exposed toasbestos fibers greatly increases the risk of bodily harm. Unlesspositively certain that the product is a non-asbestos containingmaterial, you must presume it contains asbestos. Regulations may

require that the material be tested to determine asbestos content.RFCI™'s Recommended Work Practices for Removal of ResilientFloor Covering are a defined set of instructions addressed to thetask of removing all resilient floor covering structures. For furtherinformation, visit the Resilient Floor Covering Institute website atwww.rfci.com.

• Undercut Wood Door Casings Wood door casings should beundercut so that Aspire™ will fit neatly beneath them, concealingthe ¼-inch expansion space. To undercut door casings to theproper height, remove the under-edge from a scrap piece of tile(See Image A). Position the tile on the substrate against the doorcasing. Lay the handsaw flat against the scrap tile and carefullycut the door casing to the height of the tile (See Image B). Ifinstalling over Prevail™ Universal Underlayment, place a pieceof the underlayment beneath the 6-inch piece of tile beforeundercutting the door casing to the proper height (See Image C).

• Cut Around Metal Door Casings Do not cut metal door casings.Cut Aspire™ around them, leaving a ¼-inch expansion space. After installation, fill the space with a coordinating premiumwaterproof 100% silicone caulk.

• Clean Up the Job Site Remove all debris, sweep and vacuum thefloor. Smooth, non-porous floors should be damp-mopped aftervacuuming and allowed to dry thoroughly before installingAspire™. All dust must be removed prior to installation. Inaddition, Metroflor® Corp. recommends the use of Prevail™ 1000Primer-Sealer, Prevail™ Universal Sound Reduction Underlaymentor Prevail™ Moisture Vapor Barrier to control fine dust particles.Do not use Prevail™ Moisture Vapor Barrier over woodsubstrates.

CHECk RUN NUmBERS AND mANUFACTURE DATELocate the run number on the short end of each carton and verifythat all of the material for your job is from the same run. Minorshade variations within the same run number contribute to thenatural look of Aspire™. To avoid noticeable shade variations, donot install material from different runs across large expanses.

Prevail™ 30-GS Adhesive may be used any time to strengthenAspire™ grip strip joints and reinforce splines. However, it isrequired for use on Aspire™ products older than 24 months. Todetermine manufacture date, locate the run number on the shortend of the carton. It is the eight-digit number separated by decimalpoints beginning with the two-digit day, then the two-digit month, and finally the four-digit year.

ACCLImATE THE PRODUCTCorrect acclimation prevents Aspire™ from expanding andcontracting excessively after installation.

• Move Aspire™ to the job site and allow to acclimate at least 48 hours prior to installation.

• Spread unopened cartons no more than 3 cartons high and atleast 4 inches apart. Cartons should be stacked away fromheating and cooling ducts and direct sunlight.

STEP 3: Mark the SubstrateAfter calculating the size of the first and last tiles in both the verticaland horizontal rows, transfer the measurements from the perimeterspacer to the substrate using a measuring tape or carpenter’ssquare (See Image 2). Mark using a chalk line (See Image 3).

TIP: Trace the chalk lines with a carpenter’s pencil or marker tokeep them from fading or wearing away during installation. Youwill be able to see the line between the gaps in the grip-strip fromtile to tile as you work down the row.

STEP 4: Mark and Cut the First TileBeginning in the left-hand corner of the starting wall, put a ¼-inchperimeter spacer on the left-hand wall and on the wall in front ofyou. Measure the distance from the perimeter spacers to the verticaland horizontal chalk lines (See Image 4). Position the first tile sothat both under-edges face the open field. Transfer themeasurements to the face of the new tile, starting from thedecorative edge of the under-edge sides (See Image 5). Use astraight edge and utility knife to score across the tile (See Image 6),then snap, using your knee as leverage (See Image 7).

TIP: Make perimeter spacers byremoving the breakaway leg of aPrevail™ LVT Spacer and attaching itto the sticky side of a 2-inch length oftrimmed over-edge (See Image D).Position the perimeter spacers alongthe starting wall as you go, and at thebeginning and end of each row. Leavethe perimeter spacers in place untilinstallation is complete, and neverinstall the material tight to the wall.

STEP 5: Position the First TileMaintain an even ¼-inch expansion space between the perimetertiles and the wall using perimeter spacers. Position the first tile alongthe chalk lines beginning in the left corner of the starting wallagainst the perimeter spacers (See Image 8).

TIP: If you are starting the first row with a full tile, remove the over-edges (those facing the starting wall and the wall to the left) fromthe first tile ONLY.

STEP 6: Install the First RowIf grouting the tiles, use Prevail™ LVT Spacers to maintain therecommended 3mm joint width. The unique break-away leg designmakes them perfect for use in straight monolithic and brick-layedinstallations (See Image 9). Secure the tiles in the first row byangling and connecting the ends. The over-edge is always placedon top of the under-edge and the under-edge must be perfectlyaligned from tile to tile (See Image 10). In grouted installations, thePrevail™ LVT Spacers are used as guides for perfect alignment.

Immediately use the Prevail™ Grip-Strip Roller to roll the joints asthey are installed. Always roll as you go (See Image 11). Continueplacing the perimeter spacers along the wall as you install the firstrow (See Image 12).

TIP: If a tile is not aligned perfectly, it may be slowly and carefullyseparated. Apply a bead of Prevail™ 30-GS Adhesive not morethan ¼-inch wide down the center of the under-edge to reinforcethe joint. Reposition promptly and hand roll. Application ofexcessive adhesive may result in the adhesive leaking from thejoint. Remove excess adhesive and residue using Prevail™ Remove-All. Apply to a soft, lint-free cloth and wipe the affected surfaceuntil clean.

STEP 7: Measure the Last Tile of the First RowPlace a perimeter spacer against the wall at the end of the first row.Measure the distance from the perimeter spacer to the LVT spaceryou have placed along the decorative edge of the last full tile onthe first row. Make note of this measurement (See Image 13). Transferthe measurement onto a new tile starting from the remaining over-edge side and mark using a marker or pencil (See Image 14).

Use a straight edge and utility knife to score across the tile. Snapthe tile, using your knee as leverage.

TIP: Mark and score the tile away from the newly installed floor toprevent accidental damage.

STEP 8: Install the Last Tile of the First RowAfter measuring and cutting the last tile, position and install it,following the same procedure used for the previously installed tileson the first row (See Image 15). Hand roll the joint using thePrevail™ Grip-Strip Roller.

TIP: If the last tile measures 6 inches or less in length, it must bereinforced using Prevail™ 30-GS Adhesive. Apply no more than a¼–inch bead of adhesive in the center of the grip strip. Positionand install as noted above.

Application of excessive adhesive may result in the adhesive oozingfrom the joint. Remove excess adhesive and residue using Prevail™Remove-All. Apply to a soft, lint-free cloth and wipe the affectedsurface until clean.

STEP 9: Begin the Second RowPlace a perimeter spacer against the wall at the beginning of thesecond row. Select a tile intended for the first tile of the second row.Transfer the measurements calculated in Step 2 to the tile, startingfrom the under-edge facing the wall to the right. Score, snap andplace the tile, using Prevail™ LVT Spacers if grouting (See Image 16).

TIP: Prevail™ LVT Spacers may be re-used every third row afterhand-rolling the joints.

STEP 10: Install the Second RowTo install the second tile in the second row, angle and connect over-edge of the second tile into the under-edge of the first tile. Whilepushing them together, press and rotate the over-edge of the secondtile downward into the under-edge along the first row. Be sure thatthe two tiles are aligned perfectly prior to rolling, using the Prevail™LVT Spacer as a guide if grouting (See Image 17). The tiles shouldfit together tightly and all edges should be even. Immediately usethe Prevail™ Grip-Strip Roller and roll as you go. Follow the sameprocedure along the entire row.

TIP: If a tile is positioned incorrectly and the joints are not tight,it may be slowly and carefully separated and repositioned priorto rolling. Apply not more than a ¼- inch bead of Prevail™ 30-GS Adhesive to the long and short under-edge to reinforce thejoint. Promptly and carefully reposition the tile, and then handroll. Remove excess adhesive and residue using Prevail™Remove-All. Apply to a soft, lint-free cloth and wipe the affectedsurface until clean.

STEP 11: Install the Last RowContinue installing the remaining rows as in the first and secondrows. Hand roll the joints using the Prevail™ Grip-Strip Roller. Thefinal row of tiles will be cut to fit along the wall. Measure the widthof the final row. Maintain the expansion space using the perimeterspacers (See Image 18). Transfer the measurement onto the tilesfrom the over-edge (See Image 19). Score using a straight edge, then snap. After measuring and cutting the first tile in the last row, position and install it following the same procedures as used in thepreviously installed tiles (See Image 20). Hand roll the joints usingthe Prevail™ Grip-Strip Roller.

TIP: Measure the final row of tiles from the perimeter spacers andnot from the wall.

STEP 12: Prepare for Grouting Once the tiles are in place, remove all ¼-inch perimeter spacersaround the perimeter of the job and all Prevail™ LVT Spacers. Rollthe entire floor with a 100lb three-section roller (See Image 21).

TIP: Grouting may begin immediately.

STEP 13: Begin GroutingUse only Prevail™ Grout. Traditional cement grouts can NOT beused with Aspire™ tiles. Be sure that all tile edges are firmly seatedin the grip-strip before starting the grouting process. Lightly wipe tilesurface with a dampened terry cloth towel before grouting (See Image 22). Do NOT spread grout over the entire surface of thetile. Work small sections of the floor at a time to prevent the groutfrom drying to the tile. Use a float trowel to apply the grout to thejoints. Apply the grout and pack it down in the immediate area of the open joints. Hold the float in an almost vertical position and strike off the excess grout, pulling the float across the joints (See Image 23).

TIP: Work in small sections. Do not apply more grout than you canclean in 10 minutes.

STEP 14: Finish GroutingDepending on temperature and humidity, allow approximately 10-12 minutes for grout to set up and become firm in joints. Warm, humid weather may require more time. Test by pressing finger intogrout joint. Grout should not stick to finger. As soon as theseconditions are met, use a bucket of clean water and a clean, dampened terry cloth towel to remove the excess grout from the tilesurface as you install. Hold the towel flat and wipe diagonallyacross the joints. Do not allow rinse water to accumulate in thejoints, whether grouted or ungrouted. Replace the water often andkeep the towel as clean as possible (See Image 24).

TIP: If the grout is allowed to dry to the surface of the tile, removalis extremely difficult. Clean as you go.

When installation is complete, allow grout to dry approximately 30minutes, or until grout sets firm. Use a clean, damp terry cloth toweland clean, clear water for a final rinse and clean-up. Repeat asnecessary until haze is removed. Buff dry with a soft cloth.IMPORTANT: Traffic should be kept off the installation until the grouthas completely dried for a minimum of 24 hours. No heavy orrolling traffic for 72 hours.

You may fill the ¼-inch expansion space around high-moistureareas like tubs, showers and appliances using premium waterproof100% silicone caulk.
