Learning goes FLIPPED!

Using flipped learning to improve independent learning

Page 2: Flipped learning through frog

What is flipped learning?• Rather than the teacher teaching the skills in class, and

the application of learning (the hard bit!) being done at home...

• The learning is set for homework, and the application is done in class, under the guidance of the teacher

• The teacher's role is diagnostic and supportive• Students can learn at their own level and at their own

pace• Students can learn in the medium they prefer (written

documents, videos, podcasts etc)• Students become more independent

Why on FROG?• FROG enables students to access resources from every lesson on

a bespoke page• It allows the embedding of a number of different types of

resources• It allows embedded tests (Quizlet, Socrative, Kahoot or FROG's

own quiz app) to see how far students have mastered their learning

• What if students just aren't independent enough? We have to give them those skills

• The teacher's role is diagnostic and supportive• Students can learn at their own level and at their own pace• Students can learn in the medium they prefer (written

documents, videos, podcasts etc)• Students become more independent

Key issues• Less independent students need far more support• Can't assume all students have access to Internet at

home• How much time do you really get to spend with the

more able?• Being comfortable with students learning at their own

pace• The pressure of time and targets
