SELCO FlexGenThe SELCO FlexGen product line is a range of integrated generator controllers.FlexGen is the second generation of the C6200 GenController and is built on thesame state of the art technology platform. As well it is a further development ofthe SELCO SIGMA system, including many unique power management features.

FlexGen is complementing to the various solutions for synchronizing and loadsharing available from the SELCO T-Line range.

FlexGen provides a broad variety of options with regard to user conguration andinterfacing to machinery and peripheral control. The extended exibility makesthe FlexGen controllers an optimum choice in numerous applications within bothstationary and maritime power installations.

The range consists of 3 controller units, FlexGen Basic, FlexGen Compact andFlexGen Advanced, offering different levels of functionality, thus ensuring anoptimum match to specic user requirements.

In line with the SELCO quality concept FlexGen controllers are undergoing thor-

ough burn-in testing before delivery. Also FlexGen has been tested by accredited testlaboratory to ensure compliance with internationalstandards for electrical equipment.

In connection with marine installation FlexGen fur-thermore carries type approvals from major marineclassication societies.

FlexGen ControllersFlexGen controllers are designed forinstallation in electrical switch boardpanels. The sturdy aluminium casingfurnishes clear LED indication and

FlexGen offers an alternative tocombining several units of the SELCOT-Line range of protection and controlrelays.FlexGen controllers all furnish a built

in synchroscope convenient in serviceand commissioning situations.FlexGen furthermore provides variousinterface options such as MODBUS RTUfor external PC or PLC control, and usercongurable inputs and outputs enabl-ing designated extended functionality.

User InterfacesFlexGen includes a user interface unitFlexGen UI that can be connected toany FlexGen controller through theRS232 serial link. The user interface isdesigned for mounting in the switchpanel door. It furnishes a large back-litdisplay showing all electrical measure-ments and control parameters, andseparate LEDs providing clear indica-

tion of the generator mode and generalalarms. In addition to showing actualalarms when they appear, the unitincludes a valuable alarm log, show-ing previous alarms with informationabout the time and date when theyoccurred. This feature is providinga powerful tool in maintenance andservice of the installation. Furthermorecontrol keys are included enabling on-site conguration.

FlexGen controllers are alsocompatible with the smallerC6250 display and congura-tion unit made for the C6200GenController, and the S6500user interface of the SIGMA

system, which could be in-cluded as a common displayfor the whole installation, e.g.for remote monitoring.

Preferential load trip and Large con-sumer controlExtended Power management func-tionality is included in the FlexGenAdvanced. It comprises 2 levels ofnon-essential load tripping, large con-sumer requests, light load cancelling andengine error trip.

Analogue i/oTwo analogue inputs and two analogueoutputs are available in addition to thedigital programmable inputs and out-

puts. The inputs are used for dynamiccontrol or external frequency control,the outputs for connection of analoguemeasurement instruments or meters.

RS485 MODBUS RTU

FlexGen controllers all include RS485MODBUS RTU interface, enabling exter-nal control by PC or PLC systems.

Voltage matching and Frequency

controlFlexGen Compact and FlexGen Ad-vanced can control both the voltage andthe speed/frequency of the generator.

Active load sharing (kW)Generators running in parallel opera-tion. Through connection of dedicatedload sharing lines all FlexGen controllerscan handle paralleling of a generator toother generators controlled by FlexGen,C6200, SIGMA, T4400, T4800 or B6000load sharing units.

Reactive load sharing (kVAr)Reactive load sharing between genera-tors controlled by FlexGen Compact,FlexGen Advanced, C6200, SIGMA orT4900.

Generator protectionReverse Power protection is standardon all FlexGen controllers. In additionthe FlexGen Compact and FlexGenAdvanced includes Loss of excitationprotection.For grid parallel operation Vector shiftor RoCoF (df/dt) protection can beactivated in the FlexGen Compact andAdvanced.Over load, Over current and Short cir-cuit protection is furthermore includedin FlexGen Advanced.Voltage and Frequency monitoring isstandard in all FlexGen controllers.

Dead bus monitoringAll FlexGen controllers include dead-bus monitoring, and are furnishedwith a dead-bus interlock function thatprevents non-synchronized generators

connect at the same time following a

black-out.

Load depending start and stopFlexGen offers 8 programmable inputsand outputs. The outputs can be pro-

grammed to give a start or stop signaldepending on the load on the systemIn case the load of the running genera-tors increases above a predened limit,an additional available generator willbe started. Likewise a generator will bestopped in case the load drops below apredened limit. The specic generatorstart/stop sequence depends on a prior-ity given by external selector switch oninputs 5-8.

Operation of Generators runningin parallel with the GridFlexGen Compact and FlexGen Ad-vanced both have dedicated functional-ity for grid parallel operation.

- Active load control (kW)During grid-parallel operation theload of the generators can be control-led without additional equipment.Both peak shaving and base loadoperation are possible. In peak shavingmode load depending start and stop isalso available.

- Reactive load control (kVAr) powerfactor controlFlexGen offers power factor control.During grid parallel operation thepower factor of the installation can be

kept constant by the controller.

Both FlexGen Compact and FlexGenAdvanced furthermore offer predenedimport/eport load control schemes that

Conguration and installation

FlexGen can be congured from PC using the SELCO

WinCong software.The WinCong software providesa user friendly screen lay-out. Easyaccess to all parameters is availablefrom a logical at menu structure.

Conguration is carried outin real time. Subsequentlyparameters are immediatelyupdated when changes aremade. Complete congu-rations can be saved and

uploaded in new controllerunits in a few steps, thusmaking it a exible toolboth in the design workwhen trying out differ-ent ways of operating thesystem, and in the actualinstallation work.

FlexGen controller con-gurations are pin codeprotected. The default codeis 0000, but this can eas-ily be changed using the

WinCong software. TheSELCO WinCong soft-ware can be downloadedfrom the SELCO web-page,www.selco.com.

Alternatively the FlexGen control-lers can be congured through theuser interfaces FlexGen UI and C6250.Instead of mounting it permanently theC6250, in this connection, can be usedas practical hand tool for making minor

adjustments of systems already put intooperation.

From the simple one generator power back-up installation to the more complex

grid-parallel or island mode operation FlexGen is always ensuring a cost effec-tive power control solution due to the possible choice between the 3 levels offunctionality included in the different FlexGen versions.

FlexGen is well suitable for use in:

Back-up power systems where down time is critical for safety or economicreasons, like in hospitals, airports, cable ways, energy generation and distribu-tion, processing of food or pharmaceutical products, storage of food, chemicalsand pharmaceutical products.

Island mode applications, providing the main power supply in ships, offshoreplatforms, small islands or remote areas.

Co-generation applications including peak shaving or base load operation inheavy energy consuming industries like oil reneries, petrochemical reneries,

steel mills, mines, cement factories, food processing, etc. Generators in container enclosures for temporary use
