A Fletcher Building Company

BUILDING CODE OF AUSTRALIA (BCA)Fletcher Insulation batt products comply with the

requirements of AS/NZS 4859.1 as specified by the BCA.

By being non-combustible* they can also be used in

external, common and other walls where a fire resistance

level is called for.

Fletcher Insulation™ ceiling batts, both Pink Batts®

and Insulco® Fat Batts are recommended by leading

plasterboard sheet manufacturers (Boral and LaFarge) as

the most suitable ceiling insulation to be used to meet their

allowable ceiling loadings for their standard plasterboard.

Fletcher Insulation™ batts provide cost effective, and

efficient thermal and acoustic insulation for increased

comfort and energy savings for the life of the home.

*When tested to AS 1530.1

Glasswool Batts are the logical choice

LOOSE FILL CELLULOSE FIBRELoose fill cellulose fibre can be manufactured in Australia at densities between 24kg/m3 and 60kg/m3 (refer AIRAh handbook, pages 624 and 625). We have used a density of 40kg/m3 in the analysis below to highlight the weight impact of this form of insulation on ceilings. Note also that this assumes a moisture content for cellulose of 16%, this can vary in practice especially as cellulose fibre can draw moisture from a humid environment, such as when exhaust fans are ducted into attic space.

FLETChER INSULATION GLASSWOOL BATTS Both Pink Batts® and Insulco® FatBatts provide proven insulation performance at about a quarter of the density of loose fill products such as cellulose fibre. These products are manufactured with bonded fibres which allow the batts to sit proud of the ceiling joist without obscuring them. This also contains the fibres within the batts to ensure they do not move around in the ceiling or migrate into the home.

The last thing you need to worry about with heating or cooling

your home is whether the plasterboard ceilings are going to

cope with the weight of the ceiling insulation. Using the wrong

product could lead to ceilings sagging or possibly collapsing

due to excessive weight loading.

Why take this un-necessary risk?

Downlights and Glasswool InsulationTHe FacTS

Fletcher Insulation glasswool batts are manufactured from up

to 70% recycled glass and when installed in accordance with

Australian Standard AS 3999, can be used with confidence

around halogen down-lights.

To avoid overheating of down-lights it is essential that the

insulation be kept a minimum of 25mm away from the light

fitting in the attic space. A 25mm gap free of insulation

around the perimeter of any recessed light fitting allows heat

generated by the light fitting to dissipate into the attic space.

Fire performance can be assessed by whether a material is deemed

combustible and this is determined by passing an Australian

standard test: AS 1530.1 – Combustibility test for materials.

Worldwide, glasswool is the most widely used non-combustible

insulation in building construction. In Australia glasswool batts and

blanket are one of the few insulation products that meet the non-

combustibility requirements of AS 1530.1.

Some construction types in the Building Code of Australia (BCA)

require insulation to be non-combustible. By using glasswool batts

you will be sure to comply.
