Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)
FCoE Implementation x10/x20 840 Converged network out of server/blade to top of rack fabric interconnect switch
FCoE converted to FC in the Fabric interconnect switch.
FC to SAN switches for connection DIRECTLY to FlashSystem NOT SUPPORTED SUPPORTED at G/A
Converged network out of server/blade to top of rack fabric interconnect switch
FCoE forwarded to Brocade VDX or Cisco MDS/Nexus switch
FCoE converted to FC
FC from Nexus/MDS switch to FlashSystem
NOT SUPPORTED SUPPORTED at G/A
Converged network out of server/blade to top of rack fabric interconnect switch,
FCoE converted to FC in the Fabric interconnect switch.
FC to SAN switches for connection to SVC/V7000
SVC/V7000 connects to FlashSystem
SUPPORTED SUPPORTED at G/A
Converged network out of server/blade to top of rack fabric interconnect switch,
FCoE forwarded to MDS or Nexus switch
FCoE converted to FC
FC to SAN switches for connection to SVC/V7000
SVC/V7000 connects to FlashSystem
SUPPORTED SUPPORTED at G/A
Converged network out of server/blade to top of rack fabric interconnect switch,
FCoE forwarded to FlashSystem NOT SUPPORTED SUPPORTED at G/A through RPQ
Notes:
1. FCoE Capability in the 840 provided by new Emulex chip on FC interface board. 2. Fibre Channel switches such as the Cisco Nexus or Brocade VDX are pass through devices and do not eliminate the block alignment issue seen with FCoE. 3. The SVC/V7000 receive FC packets, re-bundle and retransmit to the FlashSystem eliminating the variable block alignment issue created with FCoE.
