PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Hicks Airfield
Our June schedule has plenty going on……….we just finished new paving with approximately 22,000
square feet of asphalt paving in the T-Hangar area. We patched a few trouble spots around the airfield
and will finish up with some seal coa&ng and striping. Rio Concho Fuel also upgraded their pavement
around the fuel pumps – looks very good. With the large number of cars using the front gate - concrete is
replacing the pavement that was in need of repair. The best news is the projects were completed as
scheduled and within our budget. Our goal is to have another week of planned maintenance on the taxi-
ways in the fall to con&nue the upgrades. Mike and Mary Reddick have done a great job replacing bulbs
and washing lenses on the runway and taxiway lights. Thanks to everyone who volunteered their &me
and effort to make this a success. And sorry if this has been an inconvenience to anyone……..but I think
we can live with a li0le discomfort for the improvements. And…………we can always use a li0le volunteer
&me if it’s in your schedule.
Hopefully everyone received the mailing on the HAPA Hamburger and Hot Dogs on June 8, 5pm to 8pm.
Hope to see you there.
This small airport has quietly turned into a bigger airport. Our area is officially the fastest growing area in
the state. Amazon is building new facili&es on Westport parkway, Super Walmart nearing comple&on on
Avondale Haslet, GE locomo&ve plant just west of Texas Speedway, Motorola has announced 2000 jobs
just off loop 820 and a new Costco off Heritage Trace in the spring of 2014…………and we con&nue to grow
with them.
Hangars are full and we probably have more airplanes on the field than ever before. Let’s make sure we
are commi0ed to safety on the ramps and taxiways when preparing or returning from flying. WE ALL need
to remember the speed limit is 15 mph…….this needs to be observed and passed on to our friends that
visit our airport. It is for our flying and driving safety and our liability insurance for the Airport requires the
reduced speed (and saves us big money on the premiums that we pay)!
Also……..I have recently no&ced some of the golf carts aBer sunset are not equipped with lights. I encour-
age you to provide ligh&ng of some kind……...don’t put yourself in a posi&on to NOT been seen.
Please remember this is your airport and our monthly Board of Directors Mee&ng will be held June 20 at
the Beacon Café. Let your voice be heard and join us for the mee&ng.
Best Regards, Tom Martin

Our long standing tradition as Americans is to honor and remember the heroes that have served to protect our great country. This Memorial Day was no exception - and we also found our Hicks Airfield hosting a benefit for a member of our community. We had a great turnout for Nate Abel who had been fighting a battle with cancer for a short time. Thanks to everyone who volunteered and participated in the benefit. Unfortunately, Nate lost his battle on Tuesday May 28, 2013. Our deepest sympathy goes to his family and friends who will be in our thoughts and prayers. Tom Martin
Just completed – John and Cynthia Jones have a great looking RV12 powered by a Rotax 912. John spent approximately 1 year and 10 months to complete the construction & the unique paint job ….and to celebrate the completion a great party at his hangar!!!!
And just getting started - Scott Weathers and Maria Weidmark blasting rivets
into the wing of an RV8A…………………
