THE PROBLEM
• Many facilities built in in the
60s and 70s.
• Insulated Metal panels – aging
oven baked polyester finish
wears, peels, flakes
• Concrete – Porous; cracks and
spalls
• Damage and corrosion painted
over, or covered up with FRP or
SS panels
• Severe deterioration requires
replacement and the cycle
begins again.
As finishes deteriorate, cleaning
and maintenance efforts increase
THE PROBLEM
Finish dulls and scratches, making
the surface rougher and more
porous
Rougher surfaces
collect more dirt and grime
Sanitation crews work longer and
harder scrubbing, with
more chemicals, more
water, etc.
Harsher chemicals and more abrasion in turn deteriorate the surface faster
Eventually, USDA will require the
plant to hang plastic on the walls
to prevent contamination
THE PROBLEM
Facilities ask Paint Vendors to
provide solutions, which they do to the best of their
ability
Ineffective painting (which
results in peeling or flaking paint)
Touch up paint or hang plastic over production
areas
Food Safety risks increase to the
point that USDA / FDA inspectors
require corrections
Finishes deteriorate
After numerous
repetitions, plants
decide to replace the
panels, or cover them
up and cycle begins
again.
With pre-stressed
concrete, there are
few options, if any.
1) Painting (Industrial Enamel, epoxy, urethanes, Reinforcing linings)
2) Cover with FRP
3) Cover with Stainless Steel
4) Replace panels
* All options either create problems or restart the cycle
