Mechanical safety
This checklist can be used by the Captain when performing regular inspections to assist in ensuring a safe and healthy workplace.
Depending on the job task, the following PPE must be worn to ensure adequate safety:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Personal flotation devices
Head protection
Eye and face protection
Hearing protection
Protective footwear
Fall protection equipment

This document is meant to be a quick reference to the relevant PEI Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulation requirements. It is not a substitute for reviewing the applicable provincial and federal legislation and regulations.
First Aid Supplies, Equipment, and Training
The following information is readily available to the crew:
First aid training certificates are current and available
First Aid Kits are of adequate size, readily available, and stocked
Hot surfaces are shielded to prevent burns
All equipment is in proper working order
Equipment is safeguarded to prevent entanglement
Reporting a serious incident information is posted (OHS 24 Hour Emergency Line 902-628-7513)
PEI OHS Act and Regulations
Emergency phone number or contact information
Crew safety orientation checklist has been completed for each crew member
Emergency Preparedness
Life buoy, attached with 15 m of polypropylene rope at least 10 mm in diameter
Boat hook
Portable fire extinguisher
The following emergency equipment is on board:
General Housekeeping
Passageways and work areas are clear of clutter
Loose materials are fastened and secured
Lifejackets, PFDs and all PPE are inspected andmaintained in accordance with the manufacturer’sinstructions and recommendations.
