Opportunities to hook a Barramundi, navigate dramatic tidal rivers and view a diverse range of tropical wildlife makes it easy to see why recreational fishing and boating in Northern Territory Parks and Reserves is so popular.

Northern Territory Parks offer outstanding coastal, tidal river, mangrove-lined estuary, billabong, floodplain, freshwater river and creek fishing opportunities.

The “run off’ from March to May is considered the ‘best’ time to catch Barramundi, when wet season rains drain the floodplains and follow rivers to the sea, taking the fish with them.

Other target fish species include: Giant Trevally, Queenfish, Spanish Mackerel, Jewfish, Mangrove Jack, Threadfin Salmon, Golden Snapper, bream and Saratoga.

Anglers in the Northern Territory have the benefit of being able to fish in protected areas with few restrictions. When fishing in NT Parks and Reserves, remember to do your bit in looking after the health of our waterways and fishing resources, keep yourself and others safe and obey regulations.

Fishing RegulationsTo ensure a sustainable future for recreational fishing, we ask all anglers and boaters to obey all rules and regulations and engage in responsible fishing practices when visiting NT Parks and Reserves.

It is an offence to disregard these regulations governed by the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 2006 and the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation By-Laws.
