Fiscal Year 2018 Budget Season Begins

On Monday, February 13th, my Council Colleagues and I unanimously approved the Fiscal Year 2018 City Council Budget Priorities Resolution. This is the start of the new budget season, and even with the projected $36.9 million deficit, I believe that we can still have a balanced budget, maintain current level of City services, and provide the best customer service. I will support a budget that is equitable, responsive and one that strives to continually identify opportunities to improve the quality of life in all communities.

Engineering in Everything We Do: Council President Cole was joined by Councilmember Bry to proclaim February 19 through February 25 to be Engineers Week in the City of San Diego. They were joined by dozens of engineers from the City of San Diego’s Public Works and Stormwater and Transportation Departments, in addition to several engineering societies throughout San Diego.

NNNeeewwwsss YYYooouuu CCCaaannn UUUssseee Support against the President’s Executive Order: On Tuesday, February 14th I was joined by my fellow

Councilmembers in voting to have the City Attorney represent the City by participating in the State of Washington initiated litigation in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington against United States government officials. The State of Washington's lawsuit challenges a Presidential Executive Order restricting non-citizen travel to the United States from seven specifically identified nations. The Executive Order also suspends the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. This was not only the necessary thing to do; for freedom of religion reasons, for anti-discrimination reasons, for keeping children and families together reasons, for compassionate reasons, for supporting our immigrant and refugee communities reasons, and for many more reasons, it was the right thing to do.

Time to Celebrate: Council President Cole is joined by community residents at the George L. Stevens Senior Center for the District Four Seniors’ Black History Month and Valentine’s Day celebration.
