The bedside nurse is constantly evolving to meet the dynamic landscape of healthcare. The focus of nursing has advanced to include evidence based quality care that is patient focused. The nurse must grasp an understanding of the impact quality indica- tors in conjunction with patient satisfaction has in a healthcare setting. Although this change is evident in all current areas of nursing practice, exposure remains limited in current nursing curriculum. This leaves the novice nurse struggling during their first year to strengthen fundamental clinical skills while incorpo- rating these unfamiliar components. The Student Engagement and Growth Program (SEGway) was developed in 2013 to provide students hand on experience with patient satisfaction and quality initiatives. To provide nursing students an opportunity to have greater ex- perience in an acute care setting, gain knowledge of the pa- tient care delivery and the culture of promoting evidence based practices at the bedside.
