OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILDSunday, November 17 will be Dedication Day for our shoeboxes. Shoeboxes and brochures can be picked up in the foyer. If you donate on-line, you can track your shoebox and see what country it is delivered to.Please pray for the child who will receive your shoebox that he will accept the gift of eternal life. Each child receives the gospel in his own language and is introduced to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.If you have any questions, please call Mary Shively at 220-1134.

Associational WMU MeetingMillersburg Baptist Church will be hosting the November 2, 2013 Associational WMU Meeting. This historical church is located 3 miles south of I-70 on WW and is set in a beautiful country setting. A brunch is at 9 am followed by special music and a missionary program by Janice Miller of Holts Summit Baptist Church. Bring a breakfast item for the brunch and please enter in through the lower level of the building.

On Veterans Day this year, let us remember and honor those men and women who gave of themselves, and let us

continue to pray for our men and women currently serving in the military. 

Covered by prayerAs a battle raged around them, soldiers huddled in a trench during the Vietnam War. Their commander had ordered them to stay put, but one soldier noticed a buddy lying wounded in an open area, crying for help.

The soldier in the trench kept checking the time. Suddenly, he dashed for his injured friend, bringing him back to safety.

When the commander asked his daring soldier why he’d risked his life this way, the soldier said his mom had promised to pray for him at the same time every day. Because he knew he was covered in prayer, he had the courage to save his friend.

Thanksgiving in other landsWe tend to think of Thanksgiving as a holiday unique to the United States. But America’s neighbors to the north and south celebrated it even earlier than the Pilgrims’ famed meal in 1621.

Canada’s first Thanksgiving feast, held by English explorer Martin Frobisher, occurred in Newfoundland in 1578. The country’s Thanksgiving observance is now on the second Monday in October, with holiday fixings that are similar to those enjoyed by Americans.

In Mexico in 1598, a large group of explorers, soldiers and Franciscans traveled on sand dunes in what’s now the American Southwest. They were running low on water, so when they reached the Rio Grande, they expressed gratitude to God by feasting on fish, duck and geese. No official date is set for Thanksgiving celebrations in Mexico.

People of all nationalities have been giving thanks to God for as long as we’ve been on the earth.
