OPERATION CHRISTMAS ChildSunday, November 16 will be Dedication Day for our shoeboxes. Shoeboxes and brochures can be picked up in the foyer. If you donate on-line, you can track your shoebox and see what country it is delivered to.Please pray for the child who will receive your shoebox that he will accept the gift of eternal life. Each child receives the gospel in his own language and is introduced to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.If you have any questions, please call Mary Shively at 220-1134.

Artificial Christmas Trees WantedThe decorating committee and the Worship Leadership team are looking for artificial trees that are in good condition.  They should be a minimum of 5' - 9'.   We can use either pre lit or not.  We would only want to BORROW these for the advent season. They will be returned to you after the first of the year.   We are also looking for someone with woodworking skills and tools for help with some advent decorations.  Please contact Brad Kerr, Debbie Love, Juanita Heider, Barbara Buschert or Kathy Shramek if you could help out.

SERVE Food Pantry

First Baptist will accept food donations for the SERVE Food pantry beginning this month. Please place your food in the collection box(es) in the foyer. For November, you may want to contribute food for a Thanksgiving meal. Cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, potatoes (instant), vegetables, canned gravy (not glass), gravy mixes, fruit, cake mix, cookies, etc. A complete list of items needed for the SERVE Food pantry can be picked up at the Welcome Center.

On Veterans Day this year, let us remember and honor

those men and women who gave of themselves,

and let us continue to pray for our men and women

currently serving in the military. 

Life GroupsTransformation in Christ is communal, not just individual. Doing life together is an indispensible element in becoming a disciple of Christ. The purpose of our Life Group Ministry is to get people connected with one another so they can equip each other to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. We have Sunday School classes and some ongoing groups that meet at the church that provide opportunities for this to happen, but currently do not have ongoing groups meeting beyond the church walls. In January we will begin Life Groups that will meet in the homes of our church members, giving us another option in becoming the people God wants us to be in Christ. Please be asking God whether he would have you be part of one of those groups, and be on the lookout for more information next month.

Fifth SundayPlease make every effort to join us for our next fifth Sunday service on November 30, which will be dedicated to our church plant in Mokane. We will have one service at 10:00 (no Sunday School), where we will hear from Pastor Martin as he presents the purpose and vision of South Callaway Community Church. We will also pray over and commission the families and individuals from our church who are joining with him to form the new church plant.

Walk 4 LifeJoin us for a walk in the park!Life Network (crisis pregnancy center) is having a Walk4Life and 5K run on Saturday, November 8th at 10:00 am in Stephens Park.For more info, call Mary at 220-1134.

Thank you for the many kindnesses you have shown to me in the past few months.

Many of you have called to ask about me; you have sent get-well cards and emails; you have brought food to help out Everett and me; and many have told me you are praying for my recovery. We appreciated all those things – especially the prayers.

I was very apprehensive about this surgery, but the morning the surgery was scheduled, a sense of peace and calm came over me that I knew was a result of the many prayers.

Persevering faithIn the movie Monumental, Kirk Cameron describes what led the Pilgrims to leave England and Holland for America — as well as the conditions they faced along the way. While on the cramped, storm-tossed Mayflower, they signed the Mayflower Compact, attesting that they came “for the glory of God and advancements of the Christian faith.”

Within months in the new land, 47 of the original 121 Pilgrims had died. Only six or seven could walk and care for the others, and only four adult women were still alive for the first Thanksgiving. But the Pilgrims persevered, thanks to their faith in God and help from Native Americans.

William Bradford, governor of Plymouth Colonyfor 30 years, experienced hardship firsthand; his wife was one of the first to die during the journey. Yet Bradford’s tomb bears the bold message that “Jehovah is our help.”Published in: November 2014
