Our congregation’s Finance Committee has selected the New Consecration Sunday Stewardship Program as a way to teach the biblical and spiritual principles of generous giving in our stew- ardship education emphasis this year. New Consecration Sunday is based on the biblical philoso- phy of the need of the giver to give for his or her own spiritual de- velopment, rather than on the need of the church to receive. In- stead of treating people like members of a social club who should pay dues, we will treat people like followers of Jesus Christ who want to give unselfishly as an act of discipleship. New Consecra- tion Sunday encourages people toward proportionate and system- atic giving in response to the question, “What percentage of my in- come is God calling me to give?” During morning worship on Consecration Sunday, October 30, we are asking our members and friends to make their financial commitments to our church’s missionary, benevolent, and educa- tional ministries in this community and around the world. Every member and friend who completes an Estimate of Giving Card does so voluntarily by attending morning worship on Consecration Sunday. We urge people to attend who feel strongly opposed to completing a card. The procedure is done in such a way that no one feels personal embarrassment if he or she chooses not to fill out a card. We will do no home solicitation to ask people to complete cards. During morning worship on October 30, our guest preacher will conduct a brief period of instruction and inspiration, cli- maxed by members making their commitments as a confidential act of worship. As the Conse- cration Sunday Team, we will make every effort to inform, inspire, and commit everyone to at- tend Consecration Sunday worship. We thank you in advance for your enthusiastic participa- tion in our church’s new approach to faithful, spiritual giving. Consecration Sunday Is Coming

Congregations that approach financial stewardship from a biblical perspective do not view the money Christians give to their church merely as a way to pay its bills. Rather, such congregations see financial contributions as a way to help people grow spiritually in their relationship with God by supporting their church’s mission and ministry with a percentage of their incomes.

Our congregation’s Finance Committee has selected the New Consecration Sunday Stewardship Program as a way to teach the biblical and spiritual principles of generous giving in our stew-ardship education emphasis this year.

New Consecration Sunday is based on the biblical philoso-phy of the need of the giver to give for his or her own spiritual de-velopment, rather than on the need of the church to receive. In-stead of treating people like members of a social club who should pay dues, we will treat people like followers of Jesus Christ who want to give unselfishly as an act of discipleship. New Consecra-tion Sunday encourages people toward proportionate and system-atic giving in response to the question, “What percentage of my in-come is God calling me to give?”

During morning worship on Consecration Sunday, October 30, we are asking our members and friends to make their financial commitments to our church’s missionary, benevolent, and educa-tional ministries in this community and around the world.

During morning worship on October 30, our guest preacher will conduct a brief period of instruction and inspiration, cli-maxed by members making their commitments as a confidential act of worship. As the Conse-cration Sunday Team, we will make every effort to inform, inspire, and commit everyone to at-tend Consecration Sunday worship. We thank you in advance for your enthusiastic participa-tion in our church’s new approach to faithful, spiritual giving.

Enjoy the Convenience of Electronic Giving. First United Methodist

Church Newton wants to remind you that we offer electronic giving as a

way to automate your regular weekly offering. Electronic giving offers

convenience for individual congregation members and provides much-

needed donation consistency for our congregation. Direct Debit Giving is

used to automatically transfer funds from your checking or savings ac-

count to the church’s bank account. Credit & Debit Card Giving lets you

make offerings automatically on a pre-determined schedule using a

credit or debit card. Online Giving lets you go to

www.fumcnewtonnc.org at any time to set up an automatic donation plan, change your dona-

tion plan, make a one-time donation, or view your online donation history. As you contem-

plate future contributions, please consider electronic giving. Authorization forms and addi-

tional information are available from the church office.

I am pleased to announce the hiring of Ms.

Sarah Luhrs as our new Director of Music

Ministry. Sarah holds a Bachelor of Music de-

gree from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN.

She is a candidate for the Master of Arts in Mu-

sic Education with Choral Concentration. Sarah

has worked as both a Music teacher and a Choir

Director in Elementary Schools in both Florida

and Georgia before moving to Hickory. Her

husband, Ryan, is the new Choir Director at Le-

noir Rhyne University. Sarah and Ryan

have two sons, David and Samuel. We are so

pleased to have Sarah joining our staff and di-

recting our terrific choir. She will officially

start the first of October. Join me in welcoming

Sarah as she leads your choir in singing praises

to the Lord as they assist in the dynamic wor-

ship service at First Church, Newton.
